Another mass shooting ..

Another time to pause for reflection and condolences to all affected. This heroic act of the armed bystander will help those who want less gun control or at least keep it as it is. I think more people are going to buy guns now. How can that be good for a society?

I totally agree. If more mentally stable citizens armed with firearms and training could possibly curtail this nationwide menace maybe the armed sociopaths may think twice. Not only for the innocent but seeking mental health services themselves. Thanks for posting that.

We should never have to rely on good guys with guns. Do we want our country to turn into the old west?

This poor young man who saved everyone in Indiana will enjoy being hailed as a hero for a while, but he's going to have to live with the knowledge that he killed someone. Even people who have that duty as part of their jobs, police and military, say it's a hard thing to deal with.

I don't see it as a deterrent to the sociopaths either. Most of them set out with the purpose of killing people and then themselves, if the police don't kill them first.

Last week a woman followed a man into Walmart and held a gun against his head. A woman who worked there stepped up to her and shouted, "What are you doing? You don't want to do this!" The woman lowered her gun and went back to her car as the police were arriving. That clerk had incredible courage, even more than the young man in Indiana. Of course that didn't make the news.

What is needed too is having armed school teachers; that is those who want to be armed. Remember the pirating of freight ships off of the East African coast years back? When measures were taken to fight back and hijackers were killed, the piracy was stopped in its tracks.

You are correct - we shouldn't have to rely on good guys with guns, in a perfect world.
We wouldn't even need police officers in a perfect world because there would be no crime.

A question for the gun-totin' lovers here: If you knew that all the people at a shopping mall had guns that they were ready to use as they saw fit,
any time they perceived "danger," some of them with itchy trigger fingers, some of them mentally disturbed, some of them just plain criminals, would you go to that mall to shop, feeling safe because of all the armed people around you?

I sure as hell would stay away from that place! And the reality we are living in, in this country, is getting too close to what I just described.

I can see what @Della means. The wild wild west. If a BAD gunman comes to town we want be ready to stop him before he kills. But, what about the all the fights. Bar fights, domestic fights, food fights, whatever...people lose their temper, and do so rather quickly. Now we have a shot out at the "OK Corral". It will happen.

There is a plague of disillusioned young men who want their '15 minutes of fame' before they die and killing a bunch of innocent people at one time will give it to them. The message is - "Look at me. Do not ignore me. Know my name." The gun is not the problem. It is simply an easy way to accomplish the goal. The problem is the disillusionment and the circumstances that caused it and getting rid of the guns will push for something more extreme because the disillusionment remains.

I did not read the article but what happens when cops show up while the good guy is putting down a shooter? How are the cops supposed to know that the good guy is friendly? Sometimes those so-called good guys will end up 6 ft down because as the mantra goes, cops make split-second decisions.

Maybe the cop seeing one guy with an AR-15? I dunno. Either way, the citizen was very courageous - unlike the "Professional" police officers in Uvalde.

^^^^ Deviate from the topic.
The anti-gun crowd really hates such incidents; they go against their mindset.

Della, I had the same thoughts about this young man as I heard he stopped the killer. This was a case of the right person at the right time with a gun. But it doesn't always play out that way.

I hope he will be able to receive some free therapy if he needs it. He may be just fine but sometimes things like this can take days, weeks or many months (if not more) to be processed. It sounds like he saved lives and I hope he realizes that.

Everyone is a "good guy with a gun" including the mass shooter, or at least he (or she)) was considered one until the day before he went on his rampage. If he had been able to put off his killing spree yesterday, he'd still be that legally licensed "good guy with a gun" today.
You have zero knowledge of the shooter's background.
No one does, yet.

How is it good for society if the only people who have guns are cops and criminals? Self defense is a good thing. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.
By job description the "police" should, SHOULD mind you, show up within minutes. But for the sake of argument, say for instance the power grid goes down, or a civil war breaks out, or maybe society simply collapses for any number of reasons---keep in mind that cops, national guardsmen, even regular military folks also have homes, families, and other responsibilities that could very well prompt them to go on home and take care of their own. If TSHTF in a big way, you can rest assured that Ol' J.Q. is gonna be left to fend for him/her self.

With that thought, you bet, take every civilian's firearms away, leaving firearms ONLY in the hands of cops, guardsmen, and all military type personnel. And do convince potential crooks, thieves, rapists and murderer's to turn in their dastardly firearms, legal or not, for the good of all.

That's not true. He quit his job a few months ago and was evicted from his apartment. He used a Sig Sauer AR-15 style rifle. I forget his name, but it's in all the news outlets.

And it could never play out that way if .... responsible people are not permitted to own/carry a weapon.

it seems to me that we already have a version of the “Wild West” in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, and LA. Shop owners are encouraged not to stop shoplifters, who descend on stores and walk out with bagsful of merchandise. You think the bad guys are gonna willingly turn over their guns? You think the cops have the manpower to conduct searches and get all the guns off the street?
