On 16th August an 87 year old man on a mobility scooter was
stabbed to death, in Greenford, a London Suburb.

Thomas Ohallaron collected money for the Ukrainians, he did
lots of charity events in order to collect the money and he was
well known and loved by all in his community.

A man has been arrested! But that doesn't help.

Short video report, below.

London has always been a dangerous place I have thought, but it
has until recently been young teenage boys, stabbing each other,
now it seems that we wrinklies are the target.

I was verbally abused a short time ago on a tram, the young man
having a go, was on something, booze or chemicals, I told him to
"wind his neck" in, that shocked him as probably nobody ever
challenged him before, he followed me off the tram and I thought
he was going to start something, but as I had half a gallon of milk
in a container and a bag, handy for a good swing if he came, but
he must have realised that the bag looked heavy and changed his
mind.

Time to buy a kevlar anti stab vest, I fear.

You Brits have had some ugly ways to deal with wrong doers in the past like being drawn and quartered, flogging, public hanging, etc. Time to revive some in this case.

I don't know anything about why this occurred but just a wild guess that maybe the assailant targeted the 87 yr old man because he didn't like the man supporting Ukraine...but the assailant doesn't exactly look Russian. I can't imagine any other reason to hurt that sweet man.

With all the technology, everyone seems to get caught these days. Doesn't that deter anyone? They either die or go to prison for life

I think that the killer/Nutter, was looking for anybody, and
picked the old man because he looked easy and couldn't
fight back, he must be mental or drugged up, who would
run along busy streets wearing bloody gloves and carrying
a bloody knife.

There is something wrong with him, I fear and it cost a nice
old man his life.

Please, take whatever precautions you need to remain safe. You are a much loved member of sf. ♥️

Lately I have been carrying a walking stick, a metal one,
or on occasion an umbrella, another sturdy piece, I am
prepared I hope, thank you for your concern Shalimar.

Let us hope that the case is dealt with by a sensible judge. The man was caught on camera running away holding a knife and with blood on his hands. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a deluded judge decides that it was pure coincidence. The old man was carrying money, which had been donated. This was most likely the reason for the attack.

I haven't read that he was robbed, but it could possibly have been the motive, however I can't but think this guy will not get the sentence he deserves due to the constraints of the courts in the UK...

I'm very concerned that this crime will create copycat crimes against disabled people.. :(

Piece of excrement in court...

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and that he was of no fixed abode. Malik Aldeiri, defending, made no application for bail.

Byer was not asked to enter pleas to charges of murder and possession of an offensive weapon - a large knife - and was remanded in custody by Deputy District Judge Ross Cohen ahead of his next appearance at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.

Sounds like a nut case to me. Why assume that there was anything political behind it, unless we know some facts about it?

The "no fixed abode" part sounds like he is either mentally ill, on drugs, or both.

He obviously needs to be behind bars, but all that stuff about flogging, drawing and quartering, etc.? What is this, the 5th century?

There are no bounds now a days. Decades ago unless a extreme nut job many criminals stayed away from kids or seniors unless they were involved in their crimes. Now anyone seems to be a target regardless.

The suspect probably has a history and murder was probably an escalation from previous crimes

he wasn't living on the streets he was living in a home 2 miles away from the attack. Neighbours say the home belongs to a couple, so presumably he was their lodger..

I heard on the news, that his crime is so heinous that his case has
been transferred to the "Old Bailey", the number one criminal court
in the land, I can't, off the top of my head, remember a "Not Guilty"
verdict in that court, there probably have been some, but I don't
know of any and this one I hope is the same, even if he gets sent to
a mental Hospital for the Criminally Insane, Broadmoor Hospital,
I think that it is the only one left.

Many have spent the remainder of their lives there.
