Abolish The British Monarchy?

I don't think the royals actually enjoy their obligations so they probably would have no objection to the abolition of the monarchy. However, (for me personally anyway) the death of the queen has shown how much our monarch is part of the British way of life and the country just wouldn't be the same without them.

Not my call, I only have 53% Commonwealth ancestry. I think that the American presidency should be abolished, and the entire administrative -legislative branches be replaced with a parliamentary system.
I will agree with one thing for sure. I would like to see the two party system be dissolved. I think over the years, it has made us more and more divisive than at any other time in history. Too often people will vote for their favorite party, or who they like better, regardless of what their platform is. It's always about the party and not about voting for the better person. This is the main reason I became an Independent of sorts. Actually, I am registered as a Libertarian. I believe that people should be allowed to do their own thing, as long as they respect and follow the laws of the land. We just cannot tolerate lawlessness or chaos will abound. Can you imagine playing a football or baseball game without rules? Sort of the same thing, although it may not be the best analogy.

Wow, a new member spewing conspiracy theories. Imagine that. The US run by a "secret cabal"? In the US, you would have been labeled Q-Anon. Please do name names.

PS: Welcome to the forum.
No, I won't name the names. You know them as well as I do, so it's hardly a secret 'secret cabal'.

It's not my country. You can do what you want. But then here in my country, I can't even do what I want, so good luck with that.

In consideration of UK and Commonwealth friends on this board who obviously feel differently and are mourning the Queen's death, I think the timing for a thread like this is impolite. At least wait until after the funeral. Sheesh.
No offense was intended. The post wasn't about the Queen who I admired, but about the monarchy in general. The subject only occured to me when it was in the news.

Right Nathan: There are a lot of more pressing issues in this world than getting rid of the royals. Like global warming, the war in the Ukraine, supply chains, high interest rates, fires in California, BC and Europe, high grocery prices, high gas prices; just to name a few. These folks need to save their breath because they are going to need it.

A big plus to abolishing the monarchy is countries could put famous people from their own countries on their currency instead of the "symbol" of colonialization.
We have been printing banknotes with images of other significant Australians as far back as 1966 when we converted to decimal currency. The $5 note with Queen Elizabeth's image was a special printing to commemorate the opening of the new Parliament House that she opened in 1988

Parliament House was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 9 May 1988. It was the biggest building project undertaken in Australia since the construction of the Snowy Mountain Hydro-electric Scheme in the 1960s. Ten thousand people worked on the construction of the building, which is built almost entirely of Australian materials.
