Be afraid! Be very afraid! :)

I'll admit to being old fashioned / nonprogressive about a lot of things and this would be one of those things.......probably best for all concerned if you didn't get me started on the others.

We have a phony puritanical society. Not a day goes by that a high profile person/s inappropriate se..ual misadventures are revealed. I don't understand the surprise of people's shock at this. We lie, hide, harm, pretend, and endless other ways to hide our "perversions". The arbiter of this drama is how puritanical one is. This misadventure is timeless and will probably be until it is all over. What is so surprising is that us regular old people believe our reasoning is going to solve or make any of this better. Who is to say what is better? The generations before us don't have the same world we were raised in. They have to adapt or not. It isn't the same for them. Our modern world is a mess with no janitor in sight.

I'm not "against" nudism but I'd hardly want a nudist reading to a group of small children . Time for these youngsters to observe such things when they're a bit older and more mature. But if some folks want to have their tots exposed to such things, I guess it's their perogative.

I got as far as I could go with this article. Have some cognitive issues. I see this article as being intellectual, well written and, pardon me, bullshit. The premise seems to be to protect values of the "normal" family with well researched information trying to uncover the insidious plot of 'queers' to normalize their activities as mainstream with the desire to sexualize children to be willing partners in s.e.x. acts with queer men.

City-journal. org. is owned by The Manhattan Institute for Policy Reasearch (MI) and is a right-wing 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank founded in 1978 by William J. Casey, who later became President Ronald Reagan's CIA ...

Although not written in a shrieking manner, instead using language that 'makes sense' I see their intent as prejudicial BS. IMO.

I told you it was a conservative, i.e. "right wing" publication. The horror!

The people behind Drag Queen Story Hour have stated their intentions pretty clearly. You don't have to believe them. I wouldn't take my grandchild to one of their events but you are welcome to take yours.

It is the job of parents to set boundaries for their children. Parents are there to guide, discipline, and raise their children. It is not the job of those who will not be responsible for your child later on in life.
The word "normalize" may be all the rage right now, but it's just a lazy term for lazy adults who don't want to put in the effort it takes to protect our most valuable resource.

The John Birch Society? Wow, I'm old, but you must be really old. Are they still around?

Nothing scary about this at all:

Crimes against children come from all types of people it seems. I’m no expert but I’d suppose that more persons wearing business suits have committed crimes of such a nature than have drag queens who’d read stories to children. The drag queens aren’t as stealthy as the suit and tie types.

Well, I'm just an old John Bircher, so I wouldn't know about these things.

A close friend of mine lived in Idaho for a few years until just recently. One of the reasons he left is because it's a "conservative state." That's what he told me, anyway. If it is, I suppose that library's story-time audience will dwindle quicker than a minnow can swim a lap in a dipper.
We have lived in Idaho for a year now and yes,it`s a VERY conservative state. However,at least where I live(near Boise),we can get in the car and be in Oregon in 30 minutes. That is a VERY liberal state. So some of that "bleeds over". Having been born and raised in California and living there for 71 years,I`m kind of liking this change....

When I was probably in my 20's I went to see The Jewel Box Review. The show was fabulous, the costumes were fabulous and the "motto" was 25 Men and I Girl" and the audience was teased to guess who the woman was. The cast were 24 drag queens and the male MC who was dressed in a suit. Turns out the MC was, Stormé DeLarverie, the "girl". I even kept the Playbill. Storme had an interesting life and was celebrated by the LGBT community in her senior years. While I enjoyed the show I still feel having a drag queen read to children is not the best idea.

He was already at such an event at Brooklyn Bridge Park. My dil said he was bored and walked away. I was surprised, as no one had ever told me this. I brought up the subject to her since it's been in the news lately and that's when she told me. I guess she didn't think it was a big deal.

In the great scheme of things, it's not.

My mail order LL Bean chinos have gone up in price from $48 to $55. Now that's a BFD.

Men wearing funny collars and sworn to celibacy are the biggest culprits throughout the world, yet the people most vocal about their hatred of transvestites don't seem to have a problem with pedophile priests.

I thought the article was well thought out and well written. I miss intellectuals like William F. Buckley. Wasn't it he who took down the John Birch Society? Anyway, I treasure conservatives who really put great effort in making their points in a non hysterical manner. So there. I'm not horrified at all, just disagree.

You may have told me it was conservative, but I told you I have cognition issues. I missed your explanation entirely! Have patience with me, please.

Patience! I have so much respect and admiration for you, Pepper. You're the ideal SF poster.
