I was posting on another photo thread about the Herons' in our area, and some pics I've taken.. so I thought I need to come here and post them too because they were taken on my phoe,

Both the Heron photos and the Cormorant were taken in July from the opposite riverbank to where they were up in tall trees.. I was using my old Iphone X

Heron-HD.jpg

the first heron was on a branch about 30 feet up.. the second was disguising itself away from us.. in the foliage of an even taller bunch of tree.. on the riverbank

the cormorant is not what anyone would call pretty.. reminds me of a smaller Vulture..

Went to see specialists at Stanford yesterday so we went early to see the Gamble garden, an old estate garden willed to and maintained by the city of Palo Alto and the Arizona cactus garden on campus before dropping my wife off for tests. (She passed.)

3 From the Gamble:

A little winter walk in the Park...

winter-woodland-walk-Feb-23-HD.jpg

This puts me in mind of our last stop on July 6 of our self guided tour of English gardens and art in 2008, at Compton Verney, Warwickshire. We came to see an art exhibit my wife was interested in. But I find the grounds much more memorable.

Where else will one find an allee of 150 year old giant sequoias?

Between the lion lady guarded bridge and the clouds I can’t say which I like more.

Isn’t she a comely lass?

As with the bust she’d have been better off keeping the lady butt but who wouldn’t hit that, as they say?

True, and yet, it's a great photo, for many of us who want to see the variety, and in great detail, of what nature has to offer. I've never quite seen a picture of one, that showed it all, as well.
Despite my having seen many cormorants, it still gives me a different view of them. They have interesting behaviors, too, which I am reminded of, as I gaze at your moment that you captured.

@Pappy , your photos are wonderful! My good friend (she's your age) from Bainbridge growing up, her dad was Police Chief there, Mr. Payne. I showed her your young pic here at the grocery store, but she didn't recognize you. Must be you kept your nose clean back then. No speeding tickets or race cars?? Just teasing.

These were taken at the Hoboken (N.J.) waterfront park on the Hudson River, across from New York City (NYC). I take the train there from time to time to eat lunch, take a walk and people watch. I'd never seen boat spraying water before so I videoed it, paused and took a screen shot of the video. That's why it's fuzzy. I thought it was interesting to see the locks on the fence and wondered how that got started. The last one was taken from the bus on the way home from the Port Authority bus terminal in NYC. I'm not sure if that spot is Hoboken or Weehawken NJ, with the view of the Hudson and Manhattan (NYC) across the water.
