School shooting in Nashville!!

I'm all for outlawing AR-15 style rifles, which are high-capacity semi-automatic rifles and have been used in many of the most deadly mass killings. But there are also semi-automatic pistols which should remain legal for home protection (in my opinion). Bump stocks were outlawed in 2019 because they, in effect, turn semi-automatic rifles, such as the AR-15, into machineguns, which are illegal.
This is a reasonable approach to this special problem of mass shootings.

Machine guns 'illegal?' What about my 2nd Amendment rights?

Machine guns are not illegal, but they are heavily regulated. I think 37 states allow for the purchase of a mg, but there is a lot of red tape that goes with getting your hands on one for the purpose of owning it and holding on to it.

The only thing is, handguns were used in 75% of mass shootings. Indeed it's the weapon of choice.
Blaming inanimate objects makes no sense.
Oldsmobile was Ted Kennedy's weapon of choice.
Mercedes Benz was Princess Dianna's drunk chauffeur's weapon of choice.
A Ryder Truck was Tim McVeigh's weapon of choice (183 killed)
American & United Airline's planes were Osama Bin Laden's weapons of choice.. (3,000 killed)

News outlets need to stop turning the shooter or shooters into celebrities. They talk more about the shooter and their family than they do the victims. It would be nice to learn a little about who the victims were and their families and what their goals in life were. If they want to fill air time, use it to talk about the real victims.

Being so close to the tragedy and knowing people who worked the aftermath must make it all the more terrifying and heartbreaking Ronni. The news is sticking to the 6 dead story. This is such a terrible tragedy and that it keeps happening is just outrageous. My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims and all those who are being impacted.

I agree, as I noted earlier in the thread.

Nashville is a big city and I enjoy every trip I have made there. The people, if they are real Tennesseans, are good people, which are polite and easy to speak with. I think kudos should go out to the police for their rapid response time and how quickly they took down the shooter, unlike the police in Uvalde.

I agree with whoever said that it seems like each year at this time, we have a school shooting. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of another 1 or 2 before the end of the term. I guess it’s possible that these kids that become shooters, although this last shooter wasn’t a kid, but those that are build their frustrations maybe from being bullied, ignored, teased, etc., decide to unload their grievances and resentments at the end of the school year.

On the other hand, we need to understand why people go on these shooting sprees so we can prevent future shootings.

I think they see it as an answer to their pain or rage or whatever. There was. a guy who was going to do a mass shooting and the police talked him out of it. He was given psychiatric help and was very grateful for he didn't do that and now lives a better life. These people are hurting and see hurting others as a desperate way too deal with it. They need help to heal their psyches.

No. These weapons should be restricted to the to the military because they have no legitimate place anywhere else.
Check out these home-invasions with multiple thugs. Note how many rounds were fired. And note that the homeowner survived.
Do tell us what other weapon would suffice:

The military uses M-16s, which are similar but have a fully automatic mode along with semi-automatic mode. AR-15s only operate in semi-automatic mode.

But I agree that AR-15s should be banned. Nobody needs that much firepower unless they're going on a shooting spree. Banning them would definitely save lives.

Funny - Some people play back the same, tired recording of "This gun should be banned...." "Only the military should have this gun....."
But no one ever replies to post #345. I just can't figure out why........... :giggle:
