Florida couple shot at while delivering groceries.

They had just pulled into the driveway while trying to find a customer's address and the home owner began shooting at them while they were trying to explain. The police aren't charging the shooter because they were on his property.

On the other hand, within this news article is a link to another one about squatters in Florida, who can move into your property and do thousands of dollars worth of damage, and the police can't help you.

Florida. Go figure.

This is getting to be so ridiculous and frightening. I hope the couple escaped harm...well physical anyway. That must've been very traumatizing. A couple of weeks ago while looking for a Fed Ex store to return a package, the GPS gave crazy directions which my son realized, so turned around. He pulled into someone's driveway just slightly and quickly made his turn. What if someone had shot at us?! When I see things like this I always think that there will be copy cat incidences, especially when no charges are brought against the shooters. I just warned my son never to pull into anyone's driveway again. @Pecos

the police aren't charging him..simply because the people were on his property even tho' they were trying to explain?...something very wrong there !!

Some where, some right wing gun toting pinhead, is saying that guns don't kill people, people kill people. And a person has the right to defend their homes. Although you do have the right to defend your home, it doesn't give you the right to go gunning for people, before you have used your brain, and first find out what they want, or up to.

people are scared of each other. not that long ago people might ask for directions or help or to use a phone. Now everyone is scared for their own lives, don't answer the door, don't look at others, don't shop only when it feels safe, don't stop here or there, or anywhere. Oh, and yes a gun laying on a table hardly ever kills anyone.

@Pepper, add intolerance, racism, bigotry, rotten politicians to that list!
@Della, the news program announced that minority groups are now advising their people to not come to Florida! How sad is that?
I have a Caucasian friend who lives in Florida. She is disgusted with the way things are going down there. The governor's stance on just about everything from race to LGBT issues is really troublesome to her.

Here's something that really p*sses me off and I actually hate that expression, but that's the only way to describe my displeasure with this situation and those like it. A Black man defended his son from being beaten when some White boys came to their door and threatened the son. He had his gun. I believe he shot the boy who issued the threat. Guess who got arrested?! It seems the right to defend your home and family does not apply to people of color. This happened several years ago so I can't recall what state it was in and if the boy he shot was wounded or killed.

Ring the wrong doorbell?- -Get shot. Pull into the wrong driveway?- -Get shot. Try the wrong car door handle?- -Get shot. Go to retrieve your basketball in a neighbor’s yard?- -Get shot. American gun culture has gone rabid, yet nothing is done, and some say that the answer to gun violence is…more guns! Arm everyone!

Trouble is, when you give a pinhead stewed in conspiracy theories and general hatred a lethal weapon, he’ll set himself up as judge, jury, and Lord High Executioner of anyone who doesn’t look like him or triggers his paranoia…

Calling those that have a different view than yours derogatory names ... does not fortify your view.

BTW, I am just your average right wing pinhead ... no gun toting but ... never the less, only people kill people.

As for the rest ... I mostly agree, however neither you nor I know what sort of fear others may live with. And given this crazy world in which we live , to a small part I can understand, and it will likely become worse.

@Rossana:...... Lets talk about intolerance.

How is it that I am being intolerant when I dissagree with your view, and yet you are just fine with not seeing my view ?

Where's your tolerance ?

As long as I have been driving, I have avoided turning around using someone's driveway. I live in Penntucky where everyone owns a gun from age 12-90. It is understood. Use a parking lot, a cross road, or do a three-point turn.
A lot of the people here also begin drinking alcohol in the morning and are plastered at 9 am. Kind of interesting to me to see these ignoramuses have spread out into the rest of society. Ha, it's not just us backward doofuses shootin' up America anymore. This is why we need a government.

All my life, since I began driving, I have occasionally pulled into someone's driveway to turn around. I just pull a little way into the driveway, and it never occurred to me that there was something dangerous about that! These fearful, gun-totin' idiots have made ordinary life impossible. For those unfortunate enough to live in Florida, anyway.

What's next? Don't look anyone in the eye when walking down the street, or in a public building, such as a store or a restaurant? Or have we already reached that point? After all, with 6-year-olds bringing guns to school, we can't be too careful.

...and as Becky's link tells us... now the delivery companies are concerned for their drivers ..in case they accidentally pull into the wrong drive..

First of all, my comment was specific to the State of Florida and our governor. He has demonstrated a lack of tolerance for the LGBT community, he bans books that he does not agree with, and generally disregards the welfare of the residents of Florida. He is on the verge of approving an open carry law in the State of Florida in the midst of daily shootings in the State.
If you want to know more about our governor, I suggest you google it! I am done talking about this subject. My opinion is stated above, yours might differ.

I'll say something is very wrong. When did it become lawful to shoot someone just for being on your property?

I was taught that it was legal to enter someone's property to knock on the door but not legal to attempt entry to the back yard or loiter on the property. However, the owner's right was to have the person charged with trespass, not to try to kill them.

Precisely that Warri,.... time for the Florida Police to be asked a few serious questions...

Living in Texas, I avoid any situation that might lead to an altercation, the crazies are everywhere.
You ask when and how this started.....The gun friendly laws have been voted in by the gun friendly political party....for years now and it gets worse every year.

It might be just you and your state , when you speak it but ... It is spoken by millions lately, nation wide.

Maybe I should not have quoted 'you' ... my bad.

When I asked where is your tolerance I really didn't mean you specifically. It was a question ... in general.
