What's your thermostat set at?

I started the cool weather with the heat set at 70, but then when the average temperature dropped I found 70 a bit chilly, so now I have it set at 71. Possibly when the really frigid temps get here I'll push it up another degree or two.

I've closed the vent in the bedroom because I like it cooler when I sleep, so rather than tinker with the thermostat (it isn't programmable) this way the rest of the apartment is warmer all the time.

My wife likes to be warm, so we set our thermostat at 74 degrees. I walk around in a t-shirt on most days.

That's pretty chilly. Where do you live that you don't need "heat"? haha

I live in the Mid- Atlantic region, USA. Yeah, it's a bit chilly but the cost of fuel oil has me bundling up instead of turning up the heat. I'm used to it being chilly but keep toasty under an electric blanket when I sleep.

However, I don't make my guests suffer. When I have company, I'll raise the heat to a respectable 65°. If that's still not warm enough, maybe I should visit you at your house instead. ☺️😉

The downstairs one is set at around 65 but I turn it up around 4pm to 68. Then down to about 62 at night.
The upstairs thermostat is about 65 at night. I will turn it up in the night if my pile of blankets doesn't keep me warm enough. Everything gets turned up when I have guests cause they like it warmer.

I don't live in a cold area. Right now it's 68-69 in the apartment. I'm upstairs and haven't turned the heat on in two days. My tabby doesn't like it. Even when I owned that house, I didn't leave the heat on. I heated and turned it off. Never on at night. The coldest it ever got in the house was 55. My tortie didn't mind the cold and my calico had her covered beds or she went under the blanket on the bed. When I lived in Washington state with baseboard heat, I kept it on low at night when it was very cold. I didn't remember what the lowest was there. Probably in the teens.

My heat is included in my condo fees because we have a central system. It’s cheap to operate because it’s water based. I used to be hot all the time so kept it at 68. Fast forward to losing 50lbs and I am cold.

What’s weird is that after 5pm I progressively get colder as the night progresses. So my heat starts at 70 and by 8pm I have it on 78 despite winter pjs and a thick robe.

All my blood work is good and my doctor is stumped as to why this happens. I turn it down to 74 when going to bed. In the middle of the night I wake up hot and put it on 70.
I used to always be too warm, but after all my weight loss(120 total) I always feel like I'm freezing to death. We keep the Tstat at 70-72 during the day and 60 deg F at night, propane is enormously expensive here, $500-600 a month for the coldest months.

Nathan, maybe it’s just the weight loss making me cold and the end of menopause not making me hot.

Thin people do seem to need the house to be warmer. A really thin friend keeps the temperature cranked right up and when most people would have the AC on or windows, she is still wearing a wool sweater.

If you have a fireplace, that's a nice bonus.
I've been told that burning a conventional fireplace when it's cold outside results in a net heat LOSS. The warm interior air used during combustion goes up the chimney, costing more interior heat than the fireplace gives off. A well designed heatilator-type fireplace is a different story as it draws combustion air from the outside and circulates warm air from the fire box into the house.

This is a hard time of year for us to keep warm without firing up our wood stove. We run these new ceramic space heaters, and a few other small ones. Last month our electric bill was $50 higher than usual! This month it is worse, I can feel it. We try to keep our fairly small living space/s about 72 deg. I am sensitive to cold and drafts. This isn't the tightest building on the block. :)

We keep our fairly small place at 70-72 degrees. We have what I guess are called "wall heaters" in the bedrooms — horizontal heat emitters on the wall close to the floor controlled by a dial. (Sorry; I really don't know what they're called.) In the great room/living room and kitchen area, the heat is blown into the room. Luckily, the heating doesn't cost much here.

We also have a couple of space heaters, should we feel we need to use them.

Thermostat is set at 73. My office thermometer says 75. I am still a little chilly. It could be worse if the outdoor temps were more normal. 50 degrees outside in MI on Christmas Eve cannot be much better. I have not even shoveled snow yet this year.
