It is soooo cold! 🥶 I don't do cold very well and it's gonna get even colder this coming week. At least the hint of sNOw is gone. No rain, either, but even if it rains, we don't have to shovel it.

The sun is shining brightly, and I have the back door open so it can shine through the glass storm door...because Maggiecat likes to sit in the sun.

Don't know what I'm gonna do this afternoon. Maybe a nap? Maybe bundle up and go out to fill up the bird feeder?

So far so good with watching our daughter's two dogs. This is the golden retriever baby - 11 weeks old. He's adorable and so endearing, but like a toddler he finds mischief if he isn't sleeping so needs constant watching. Good thing DH & I spend a lot of time with a human toddler. Downside to puppies is that they're often underfoot and create a trip and fall danger.

May go back to the cookbook today since there's nothing much on my agenda. Well, unless DH wants to start putting Christmas decorations away, but probably not since three dogs would be "helping" the process along.

Now that you’ve done it once, go for it again. Stay for more than one overnight adventure.

I hope to go back (now that I've had the successful test-trip). I've made a reservation (that I can cancel without penalty up to the day of arrival - just in case I chicken out) for 3 weeks in late April to mid-May, at a low-rated-but-very-cheap hotel in Secaucus, NJ that according to people's reviews is located by an express bus stop into NYC (takes less than half hour, costs $5 ish) (I'm hoping to arrange to get a senior discount if possible).

It is the brand of hotel I was staying at in 2022 in other cities, the rooms have kitchens and the hotel allows pets. Now I need to figure out how to travel on the train/metro/bus with my cat. While I was waiting for the train on this trip, I talked to a young woman traveling with her cat, and her arrangement of suitcase, cat carrier, etc looks like something doable. She helpfully described how she packs a collapsed cardboard box, mini-scooper, and little bag of kitty litter.

Plow came through and filled the apron of my driveway with heavy slush. 28 F so I got out there and shoveled it clean before it turned to stone since even colder weather is on the way. Even got a 20 foot run of curb cleaned for the mail drivers to get to the mailbox.

Even did it without gloves. Getting acclimated. But I did put on gloves to do some outdoor exercising to loosen up the shoulders and bend and twist at the waist a bit.

Glad to say though, things are looking up more as I get through the day. My attitude is so much better than when I first awoke today.

Any other night I would have been up to the bathroom two or more times. Last night I didn’t wake until 4:35. Between 11:30 pm and then, the hot water line had decided to freeze. The cabinet door was propped open but that wasn’t good enough. Running the hot water a couple of times earlier would have kept it passable. Tonight I’ll do the dripping tap trick.

It was the third day/night of temperatures well below 0F.

Day is wrapping up here.

I received four new albums in the mail, and have been working my way through them. As such, a good day. It was chilly walking the dog though, but I did get to see one of the foxes as it awaited my food, so that's uber-cool.

I got turned down by a dog charity as a temp-adoption person for dogs because I already have a (silly) dog - which was disappointing.

Don't know where to put this question, so I'll just ask here... all you mechanically-savvy people...

Friend offers you the loan of his older car (which was kind of starting to make funny noises anyway) while your car is in the shop. Said vehicle has not been cranked (started) in over 6 months. Would you have concerns about the battery being flat or mechanical function/ reliability after so long a time of no use?

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or look a gift horse in the mouth but I don't want to end up stranded either.

Look forward to your input. Thanks
The fact that it's making funny noises would be a red flag for me. The possibility of the battery dying might also concern me. Perhaps you could just say you appreciate the offer but it won't be long before your car is ready. Are you able to take Ubers or Lyfts or even public transportation in the meantime? Or better yet, any relatives or friends (besides that one) who could take you where you need to go?

@squatting dog Love the colors on your house.

Hi @OneEyedDiva, thanks for your input. Yeah, the situation pretty much resolved itself when he realized, "Oh, the heater doesn't work" 0.o Deal breaker, this time of year, for sure.

We have 2, count 'em, Two Uber drivers in my town.. it will do in a pinch but kind of pricey No public transport to be had. My son has told me he will let me use his car when I need it. So we're all good. =)

I've seen those cat carriers that fit on top of suitcases. Very handy. You can probably use Google maps to find where the bus stop is in relation to your hotel, using their street view feature. It's like actually being there. I use it to scope out any new locations I have to go to. HOw nice that you have another trip planned. :D

I'm glad it's resolved and that you have the option of using your son's car. I'm in a transportation hub, so plenty of buses available and access to the train is easy. But I've started using Ubers and Lyfts to go to my doctor appointments rather than standing around waiting for buses, especially this time of year. Most of the time, my son can pick me up after the appointments.

I did a lot of sleeping today. It seems that my weird sleep schedule is changing yet again! Before my second nap, I Swiffered the bedroom and walk in closet floors, straightened up and dusted in there. I never did have breakfast because I woke up so late. Brunch was a half salmon salad sandwich and sugar free drink. After that I fell asleep again and didn't wake up until 8 p.m. I really do think it's one of my meds.

I will listen to my Biking playlist while using my mini peddler, sort laundry so I can go down to the laundry room sometime after midnight, play Cody Cross & WWF and finish watching the Reacher and Percy Jackson episodes I started.

Is that the Jack Reacher t.v.show? I just finished season 3.

It's been a few years since I watched the Percy Jackson movies, but I remember that I enjoyed them.

I just got back up because I could not get to sleep. We are now at 17F!

4. deg C.. here... but that's 44 deg F.... and it still feels very cold.. but of course I can't have any heating on, so that makes a difference in how it feels.

I slept until late this morning... I've rarely ever done that.. but it was very warm in my bed. I'd put an extra comforter on it last night, and took a hot water bottle to bed with me, and so it was very cosy...
