My Dad Died Last Night šŸ™

My dad taught me how to swim. He used to swim from one end of a lake bay to the other. Most of my life Iā€™ve swam long distance. Hereā€™s a picture of my dad and how far he swam. ( in reality he needed it also, dementia is a serious disorder that many pray apon ) Sometimes you need to save them from themselves.

Hereā€™s the Bay where he swam from. You can see the tip of other side. It was probably close to 2 miles away which would be close to a 4 mile swim in total.

Hereā€™s a tip of the other side of the bay.

Hereā€™s us hanging around after my dadā€™s swim. Iā€™m not sure who the other kids were though. Maybe my parents friends kids.

IMG_3679.jpeg

Both my mom and dad enjoyed camping. Hereā€™s a pic of us and our tent. I remember this weekend quite well because my dad cut my brothers hair short and then mine next . I didnā€™t want a hair cut but got one anyway since I was in the vicinity. Lol Iā€™m only sharing this picture cause it looks nothing like me. My hair was usually long.

IMG_3677.jpeg

My dad loved to cook and was a fairly good one. Here he is cooking outside. He cooked most of our meals at home and ALL meals while we were camping. I tried to lighten the photo up some.

My dad taught me to do what you love and love what you do. He did what he loved his entire life. The only reason he went into a nursing home was to be with my mom.

Thanks for sharing more about what made your dad such a great person.

Love, love, love! You were blessed.

We had a station wagon when we were young. Both parents drove it. In fact, they took turns driving it. Here it is. Thereā€™s part of the bay my dad swam. He swam at the furthest tips of the bay.

Iā€™ve got a couple of photos my dadā€™s parents too. Here is my paternal grandparents from England with their garden in the background. Apparently they were both avid gardeners. They had gardens at their house and had a community garden in town also.

IMG_3666.jpeg

I said I didnā€™t have any and aunts or uncles but I did. My mom had too brothers who died young. One was a professional football player and in England football is more like soccer. He was killed getting a football kicked in his stomach. My other uncle was killed in the war, and her father was in the war and got captured so spend 5 years as a Prisoner Of War. My momā€™s mom had Multiple Sclerosis so died young.

Looking through these pictures I think I see a possible great aunt. This is my grandmother in the rocking chair with the striking silver hair. Thereā€™s another woman who looks similar in appearance and age. That may have been my great aunt.

IMG_3680.jpeg

My dad did rally racing with his uncle Jim so I had a great uncle as well. My dad always drove fast . Really fast but he was a good driver. My mom didnā€™t like my dadā€™s family so we werenā€™t allowed to talk about them but my brother and dad would fly there every once in a while to visit. He continued his car rally driving with a friend he met from where he worked. His name was Derek. They did a lot together including canoeing. Here they are canoeing together. My dadā€™s in the front.

IMG_3678.jpeg

Both my parents were very active. My dad played tennis a few times a week in the nice weather here but also when they went to Florida which they did for some 30 years.
My mom swam also and did yoga and tai chi. We always had a dog and my mom walked and fed the dog (s) and fed the birds and cats before she left for work. She walked the dogs as soon as she got home from work also. Our pets were always well cared for as were we.

My dad was an avid Gardner. He learned to grow roses from his mother. My grandparents grew most of their fruits and vegetables. My dad had a few gardens and this one at the front / side of our house was where his irises and roses grew. It always smelled nice out on the patio. Plus we had a big sliding glass door where the sun shone through. This picture was taken before were put in the sliding glass door.

Between swimming and gardening I'm surprised he didn't make three digits. What a guy!

My dad had a great life. He and my mom took dance lessons so they could dance on the different cruises they planned each year. They went on at least one per year; usually two.

As a family we went on several long distance road trips. Two to the Atlantic provinces. We saw the Cabot Trail and The Northern Lights.
One summer we drove to Los Angelas. It was a business trip but we went to Disneyland when my mom was still around. After 2 weeks my mom left. I wish she had stayed.

They had a cottage and a Florida condo which theyā€™d rotate. My dad played a lot of tennis which was probably one of the main reasons they became snow birds. My dad could play tennis almost daily.

My dad suffered from mental health illness. A disorder I didnā€™t have much tolerance for. Now I suffer from similar disorders and hope and pray others forgive my trespasses.

I love šŸ’• my Dad.
He was a great man.
Now heā€™ll know the absolute truth.
This alone, brings me much peace. ā˜®ļø

deepest condolences Patty and lovely to see your family in b/w film for a change - it always seems more real to me! - but as I approach very old age I sit and ponder more - and your thread has reminded me - we sometimes spend too much time thinking of just ourselves and doing things for our own pleasures - it's the wrong way around imo - doing things for others regularly will enrich us [eventually and sometimes immediately] and enrich so many others also.

lovely in memorium thread! x

I am adding my condolences, and sending prayers and hugs for you and your family as you grieve the loss of your father. If he lived to be 96, it sounds like he had a good long life and you had him around much longer than many of us have our parents, @PeppermintPatty .
My dad had a grand life. My parents did what they loved and loved what they did.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you Honey - nut !
What Happyflowerlady said. Are you okay PP?
Thanks Lara. Iā€™m ok. Thanks for asking

Sorry for your loss PP. šŸ¤—
Thank you Oy - photo guy
So sorry for your loss. No matter how long you have them, it's hard to lose a parent.
Thanks Jujube ā€¦ itā€™s still in the surreal stages
Sorry for your loss PP.
May fond memories of good times spent with him comfort you in the days ahead.
Thank you Mr. Pants
Fond memories are flooding my mind and they are filled with nothing but love. I feel a big l bubble of nothing but love surrounding me these days. I know Iā€™m loved and protected
95 is a life lived!

It's the Circle of Life, but doesn't make it any easier. Sending positive vibes your way, @PeppermintPatty.

ā¤ļø Patrick
Thanks Beezer
I doubt he could have had a better life. Iā€™ve got dozens of post cards from them together at all the places they went. Thanks

Patty, a loss of a parent, has no age limit. My mother was just into her 30's when tuberculosis caused her premature death. Her husband, my father, broken beyond belief, raised their kids alone. We needed him of course, but years later he admitted that raising us was a tribute to the love he had lost. Dad lived until he was 92. His passing was as painful as mother's was all those years ago. My prayers and sympathy are with you.
Iā€™m sorry you lost your mom at such a young age. Thatā€™s brutal.

Iā€™ve never seen my dad more broken than when my mom had a stroke. He literally cried for her. My parents did a lot of fighting through their marriage but they clung on to each other so tightly it was both heart breaking and humbling at the same time. I cried with him.
I wish you and your family peace and comfort at this sad time.
Thank you Jace
So sorry to hear this PP.
Peace and Love to you šŸ„€
Thanks dobieluvr
No words to say how much you feel for this loss. Hope you have comfort in knowing he lived longer than most & that you had him in your life for those years.
thank you. It brings me great comfort knowing he had a fabulous life. This is bitter sweet for me. His body was failing and he was definitely in pain. Passing over relieves all that pain and now everything is clear. He knows what he needs to know. May my dad rest in peace

My deepest condolences, @PeppermintPatty .. loss of a parent is devastating. You are so fortunate to have had your father in your life for as long as you have.

šŸ¤—
Thank you Pinky
I was fortunate to have had them in my life as long as they did
I know your relationship was complicated. Hugs to you, dear (((PP))). Will you and your guy be attending the funeral?
Hey Pepper. My guy wonā€™t be attending but neither will I. My brother doesnā€™t think there is enough people interested. He would have to call people and that would take time. Plus funerals cost a lot. They have plenty to cover it but I doubt there will be one. Unfortunately itā€™s out of my hands. Sometimes I wish I would have kept the house.
