What have you bought recently?

I spent on a pound of ground beef and a half gallon of milk before I left work so that DD wouldn't have to park and come inside. That's it for January.

Tomorrow is payday and pension day. Yeehaw! There might be a princely sum to transfer to savings.

Giving some thought to what beer I want to brew soon, decided I would go with an
British Ale, similar to Bass Ale.
It's getting harder to find a good Ale, as all the micro-breweries seem to produce IPA's,
thinking more Hops is the way to go and InBev has killed off any good Ale on the market.

Ordered the 5-gallon Extract kit ( getting too old for All-Grain brewing anymore ).
Finished product will be about $.88 a bottle, so no big loss if I don't like it.

Added a new Hydrometer, had my old one for many years.

Princely sum mentioned yesterday has been transferred to savings. Yay. I left enough in checking to buy a trinket here and there or maybe have some $$ to spend when I'm forced to enter Walmart's portals again.

Oh, goody. My massive $102 income tax refund is going to be sent next week. Let's hope I don't get all carried away and buy a Mercedes or a 5-bedroom, 6-bathroom house on six acres or hire a chauffeur, a cook, a housekeeper and a gardener.

I made "so much" money in 2023 that I had to pay tax on part of my SS. At my age, I gotta pay taxes while there is one among us who lives in a mansion in Florida and owns a private jet who pays (much) less than $1000/year    Note to self: do not get political or anything...

Went to Costco this morning. Bought groceries and a case of copy paper for our business.

I feel your pain. 85% of DH & my SS benefits are taxable at the federal level. Fortunately, CA (and Georgia) don't levy income taxes on SS.

Taxes or no taxes, I'm grateful to still be earning an income, living comfortably, and adding bits to our nest egg. We may close the business in January 2025 and I'm here to tell you, I'll sorely miss my part-time work if that happens.

Redecorating paraphernalia and tradesman labour charge. We are redecorating the entire house, inside and out, to make it presentable for sale. It's going to cost quite a lot, but we should more than recoup our costs when the place is sold. Our home has become too big as we grow old, time to downsize.
Will you stay in the same area HC ?

Visited the "Reduced" bakery shelves before leaving work today and got Rice Krispies treats and some mini cherry turnovers (we call them "Bites" for DSIL because he likes them. And because the expiration date isn't until tomorrow. And because they're way overpriced, but half price is fine. Piddled away $5.00.

My inner spendthrift is trying to push its way out.

Earlier today after delaying a week due to issues transferring money from my bank into my PayPal Wallet, bought on eBay, a used GoPro Hero 8, for $136 total including tax/shipping. I don't trust using my bank credit card on eBay so instead use PayPal. Already own one I bought new a few years ago and wanted a second in order to allow recording helmet mounted powder skiing videos in both front and back directions.

Also purchased some online prescription reading glasses for $63 including tax/shipping. I have $1 Dollar Tree reading glasses all over but to prevent eyestrain while reading books or at computers for hours, use a single pair of prescription reading glasses. Current several year old prescription reading glasses were showing increasing scratches.

Hopefully yes. Not looking forward to the process, I remember the last move, such a pain in the proverbial!
yes I know all about moving...having moved 17 times in my life... never had a problem with it... but now.. I'm not looking forward to the actual move when and if I hopefully do..this being the last move.. and being on my own and much older.. and with 44 years of stuff in this big house... and having to get rid of a lot of it.. all gonna be stressful.. but I'm willing to do it if I get the right property for me..

It is rather incredible what extreme athletes are doing in this era. Given video technology they are now also capturing their feats for public audiences. Per my post just above: What have you bought recently?

This is what such Point of View (POV) action cameras allow per below professional video link. For surfers, mountain bikers, rock climbers, hikers, fishermen, and many more these cameras have provided a paradigm shift in what is possible today:

The following is an entertaining 24 minute video I watched this afternoon of two, one on skis and the other on snowboard both climbing up and then descending. There was also a small support crew. They climbed new snow conditions with ski climbing skins and crampons and used both GoPro cameras like I just bought in the above link and drone mounted cameras their support crew manned. At 21:30 minutes one can see how the GoPro camera is helmet mounted.

As a 75 year old old guy, my own skiing is different. I don't ski dangerous, challenging ways for my ability levels. Instead my own powder skiing is at ski resorts relaxed, enjoying the most viscerally enjoyable rhythmic sensations although I do ski through forested slopes dense enough to scare many other advanced skiers as one does not want to run into trees or get stuck in tree wells. And do so well enough that I can post such publicly on youtube looking unusually good.
