Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

The week is at a close
The Sabbath is upon this home

I never knew what the rest was all about
until we lived at our mountain cabin

I would've worked myself into the ground without
that day of rest
Worked 24/7 building our place

Winter was coming

Winter was always coming up there

Learned replenishing strength in mind, body, and spirit
with that day of rest gave me more energy than any pot of coffee

Down here in town, it's not so pressing

But laying down the rigors of the week
has become more essential than any deemed necessity

I've been hearing about temperatures from -20 to -40 from Facebook friends with the same breed of dog as mine who actually live on ranches and get to do what they're bred for. They talk about how fast they all go out and do their business and return in record time. We've only been getting down to 40 or just below on a few nights.

My wife found one of our old dog's sweaters and I've been putting it on her at night. She cooperates so I think she likes it and she is never eager to have it off, though she is quick to let me do what I want with it. She sleeps on a concrete floor right beside our barn sized door either in her crate or on soft cushion bed. With her short fur I imagine she can get too cold but we never hear her at night wherever we have her sleep.

She's so pretty!

Arbor Lights
(the song Harbor Lights come to mind....not really)

My handyman buddy gave us a Christmas gift of these lights

Screwed 'em onto the little arbor I built last summer

It appears the ol' shack is beginning to look a tad junky

My hope is the Virginia Creeper will wend it's way throughout the arbor and hide some uglies

We'll see

Snowball and I are sort of fair-weather survivalists. Love our lake home in spring thru fall and out of there.
Just too alone then for us. Last week of march thru last week of November is a different story. Lake life
is where we be. We per chanced upon it near 30 years ago. Take a good risk was the driver force. So
Life is a risk. Do your driver juices and enjoy.

Life is a risk
Yes it is...wherever you are

It was a bit concerning, when we first moved to the mountains.

Nobody to help you
Want heat.....fall trees...chop wood
Want meat.....hunt it
Stuff like that

After the first year we came to realize it was more comfy to provide for ourselves than to rely on outside sources

And, it's the best of exercise programs
