Kellog CEO Says Cash Strapped Families Should Eat Cereal for Dinner.

Manufactured Cereals are the worst possible food you can ever eat.
Thas my thought. Come on Cocoa Puffs or Wheaties?
Weed killers, Fertilizers & bug killers + additives all part
of the system of growth and Industrial processing.
Hard or soft boil an egg every morning and get on wid it + a Coffee with Cream not shaken powder.
If you want some bulk do some Air Frier green beans.
I agree it's processed and not the best foods. But people eat all kinds of stuff, myself included, that is processed and not the best foods. I'm not going to worry about it myself too much. The cereals I buy are the off brand, more organic. Still processed still have sugar but I like cold cereal sometimes.

We like it, too. My son and I eat it for a bedtime snack.

Last week we bought 3 boxes of Cheerios on sale for $1.97 each. (Valentines Day was over and they were still heart shaped.)

Then the next day we read that oats are covered in an insecticide that causes birth defects. Nobody here is planning to get pregnant soon, but we threw it all out. I don't think there's anything safe to eat these days.

What causes the most food poisoning? Lettuce.
Wow, that's too bad. I do buy organic oatmeal. Usually at Trader Joe's. Many stores carry some organic form.

People routinely consume far worse things. One Caramel Dubba Mocha Sugga Latte Grande with ChemWhip from Starbucks et al. probably outweighs the negatives of eating cereal for a week.
The only time I get a store coffee is when I've been forced to do a double. I don't know if I could do another one.

But I make good coffee at home with oat barista milk or the newly discovered Ripple plant based half and half.

She's got several
There's one I'm particularly fond of

Asked her what's in it

'Oats, and this and that'

Her gravies make it much much better
(don't know what's in them, either)

She's got around a 1000 cook books
But, I do know most her vegan stuff comes from this one

Seems it's her vegan bible

I'll look into that book Gary. Never heard of it.

Sounds like your wife is a natural good cook, while I'm a natural lousy cook. :D

Some people just have the knack.

You would be better off with bananas and a jar of natural peanut butter if you were that strapped for cash. As mentioned, most cereals are really a whole lot of junk food.
I agree about the cereals but *ugh* to the peanut butter for me... I know it's full of protein but it's very fattening and revolting taste, I know Americans love it...... however the bananas are good, and grapes which I have for breakfast... or mashed banana on Wholemeal toast...is another fast high protein food

the CEO of Kellogs says that? well he would. Obvious vested interest there - so obvious that he makes himself look stupid saying it.

Is poor advice - one can buy much cheaper and more nutritious food than boxes of Special K

I think you misunderstood my point.

I have nothing against cereal and eat it most mornings myself

But the CEO was trying to say it would be good for cash strapped people as a cheap nutritious dinner.

My point - No it wouldnt - one can buy far more cheaper and more nutritious food for the amount of money one would spend on a box of Special K

of course starbucks whipped cream drinks wouldn't be best nutrition or price bang for buck either - but nobody was saying they would be

Yup, love that peanut butter! :D How I wish bananas didn't make me sick now. I miss them.

I got some cocoa puff type cereal sold at Halloween for 50 cents a box the week after.
My grand girls and I made rice Krispy type treats with it. They were good and just a treat, not supper.
Yes, I see past holiday stuff showing up at the Grocery Outlet for reduced prices.

When I saw the headline, I thought the CEO had made an off-the-cuff remark. He didn't. He kept doubling down when confronted. He really thought that cereal for dinner for the financially strapped was making a trend. The only trend he made was showing how CEOs are out of touch.

I have to read all the labels to make certain I’m buying a high fibre/low sugar/no artificial sweeteners in the cereal for DH. There aren’t many.

Does anyone else like Shredded Wheat. It’s the only one I like. DH insists it tastes like straw, which basically that’s all it is. Eat it with a banana and skim milk.

Cereal?
Pffft

We just buy a big bag of rolled oats

Love oatmeal
It's substantial
aaaand
Left over oatmeal makes some mighty fine pancakes

Also, my lady makes pretty scrumptious oatmeal patties

She also makes our granola

Haven't bought cereal in years

We have oatmeal nearly every morning. Does the trick in more ways than one. Haven’t tried making pancakes with the leftovers because I make a large saucepan’s worth about weekly and reheat two bowls full daily from that. We eat a lot of fruit and nuts with it.
