Being afraid of birds

While I was still working my boss and my colleague were afraid of birds, really disliked birds. Anyways, I asked them if they had had a bad experience with a bird and they both said no. My boss also disliked cats, I love cats. But I have always heard of the dog loving versus the cat loving kind of people. But I was kind of surprised about the bird dislike without no reason???

Odd. Some people are not animal people. I can't imagine I love all animals. Domesticated and the wild ones are very special.

I am totally a cat person however. Keep mine indoors only for their safety and that of birds. I also keep the feral colony I feed fed, I don't want them going after birds.

I can kind of understand the birds thing if they are around our age and are still hung up on the movie The Birds but that was a long time ago...

Birds outside that I can watch are fine and I admire them. Just not near me. Definitely no budgies, etc. I have to feign interest in DGS’s birds. Glad I just hear about them and don’t have to be near them. I couldn’t fake it.

My Grandfather and my mom both hate and fear birds. Gramps believed birds were bad luck and heralded death. If a bird flew into a window, YOUR window, it meant someone was going to die. He believed this his whole adult life because it happened to him. :(

The old-time miners were suspicious of Red-Winged-Blackbirds, especially if one flew into the mine. It's known as "blood on the coal" and is believed to predict a mine disaster.

I saw a movie where the birds were really mean. :)

🐦I feed the birds. I've hung the feeder off my deck...and all love me🐦But when the seed is gone for the day, they fly away. Fickle little fellas. When I refill the feeder I whistle my own bird call🐦 and they return instantly.

🐦I spread sunflower seeds🌻 over the garden to keep the Blue Jays busy because they are MEAN!!...and hope for Sunflowers 🌻growing there in the summer. 🐦Last year was my first year living here I got 8 beautiful sunflowers🌻 when summer arrived🌻🌻🪺🐦🐦

I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania- at least 100 miles from the ocean. There's a local grocery store, that at certain times, the parking lot is full of sea gulls. There's a 100 or so white birds walking around. And they are not too eager to get out of your way. It looks like a scene from "The Birds".
You name it and somebody has a fear of it. "phobia' means "irrational fear".

I get wasps in my apartment sometimes in the summer. I think they get in some place at the single pane window by the door. Orange cleaning spray incapacitates them so I can kill them.
We don't kill the wasps. Some years ago a wasp even touched down at my wife's bratwurst sandwich and bit off a small piece of the bratwurst. But the wasp was too greedy and the piece too heavy that it had some problems with take-off. In the end the wasp was successful. Sometimes a wasp is curious what is inside of one of my nostrils. I blow it out, that's all.

Having a nice picnic with your wasp friends. :)

My grandmother kept all manner of fowls, she had a flock of Geese that attacked my brother and me, they were very territorial, I've disliked Geese ever since.
Geese are the terrorists of the bird world. There is nothing meaner than a pi$$ed-off goose. Unless it's a pi$$ed-off swan and then you're REALLY in trouble as their "pecks" can break bones.

Oddly enough, I used to work in a building right on Lake Eola in downtown Orlando. Lake Eola is known for it's large swan population. Usually, the swans won't let you near them, especially when they have young with them. It's so much fun to watch the babies but DON'T get too near. Mama will stretch her neck out first, then start hissing and then attack. AND you DON'T want to be attacked.

But I met "The Swan" one day. I was sitting on a bench when this swan with a lame leg (his foot was turned almost backward) approached me and "invited" me to share my sandwich with him. I say "invited" but it was definitely more "demanded". I gave him a crust and he put his head on my knee and indicated that he'd like more. I gave him more and he let me stroke his neck for a while. Many times, I'd sit down to eat and read and he'd come waddling up as fast as possible for a handout. I wonder how many people he cadged crumbs off..... That corner of the park was definitely his territory. I called him my "Boyfriend".

With his friendliness, I would bet he was someone's rescue swan that they had donated to the park or maybe just dumped off. The city takes good care of them with feeding and medical care if they need.

I just can't have them inside. And the cats will go after and could get stung. Outside they can do their thing.

I wouldn't hurt a bird on purpose, but would never have one as a pet. They are messy and noisy. I enjoy wild bird song, but not the doodles they leave in the driveway.
