I do my own grocery shopping. Delivery is great for people that can’t do it. Luckily I am still physically capable.
My Wife uses a sharpie marker to write the date that each can or box of food arrived in our house, so at a glance we know if an item is nearing it's expiry date. WE both drive, and within 5 kilometers of our house we have 5 supermarkets that we shop at, depending on what their online flyer specials are this week.We make a list and our son shops for us. Today he went through the cupboards and found canned goods that were bad and some 5-11 years old. Like I told him "when in doubt throw it out", so a lot will be going to the dump tomorrow.
I've noticed that all over. Mark Zukerberg apologizes and promises to do better for some shady Face Book shenanigans every year or so.I try to avoid deliveries unless they are free. Always tip your driver at least $4.00 because you can bet the delivery company is witholding a part of that tip. DoorDash even admitted to that and I don't think Congress has stepped into make that illegal nationwide yet.
DoorDash Says It’s Very Sorry You Noticed Its Tip-Skimming Scheme
Apparently, the catechism in Silicon Valley is to say, "We're so sorry (you caught us) and we'll do better." California is a very dark place overall, I'm speaking in Dark Side Star Wars terms. So much corruption in business.
Wow. That would be such a bad public relations move by any sensible business. Given the wide spread use by seniors of social media, how fast do you think this type of stupidity would go on with out it being made public? Grocery stores operate on razor thin profit margins. Dumping expired food products to home bound people would be down right stupid. An " investigative reporter's " TV station wet dream, if it actually happened. No! I figure the grocery stores would use that opportunity to unload their dented cans and almost out of date stuff on me.
Grocery stores with lower prices are massively huge, and I started having trouble doing all that walking and then standing in line for what felt like forever. So I shopped at a relatively pint-sized BelAir Market for quite a while. A few months ago I started ordering our groceries and stuff online, and then I go pick it up.As my health deteriorates and walking is painful , I have decided it is best to order the weekly shopping online, have it delivered. It takes all the pressure off. I've always enjoyed shopping and browsing, it was a great pleasure. Now it is just too fatiguing.
Also, I have requested my medicines to be delivered, which was easily arranged. I feel it is a bit like giving up in a sense but on the other hand it is sensible.
Have you put these changes into effect?
What is a preferred shopper if you don't mind my asking? Are those certain delivery people?I also have a couple of preferred shoppers who like to check on me since I'm a shut in.
You can order things through the computer, but when you pull up to pick up you order you have to have a cell phone of some sort to call them and say you're there -- otherwise you'll sit in the parking lot for 44 minutes -- oh wait, Murrmurr had to anyway.I've never used any of those services and since I don't have a smart phone, I wonder if it can be done through the computer?
