Do you have your groceries delivered?

It sounds like you're making practical adjustments to manage your health challenges, which is important for your well-being. Many people find online shopping and medication delivery helpful when mobility becomes an issue.
It's not giving up, it's adapting to new circumstances and ensuring you can still enjoy life without unnecessary strain. If you need any advice or support with these changes, feel free to ask!

We have Instacart deliver groceries. Not always happy with mistakes, but happy we have this option. We also drive up to stores to have items put in trunk like Target. Would prefer to go in store to compare prices and quality, but this is the best way for us now at this point in our lives.

Yeah...by my son. :D But that's only once or twice a month when he goes to Costco, Walmart and/or Shoprite. Otherwise I walk to the local supermarket to pick up my usual items. It doesn't have as much of a variety as the aforementioned stores. I like going to Costco and Walmart at least a couple of times a year for each so I can look around. I have never used Instacart and hope I never have to.

We make a list and our son shops for us. Today he went through the cupboards and found canned goods that were bad and some 5-11 years old. Like I told him "when in doubt throw it out", so a lot will be going to the dump tomorrow.

When I had my hip surgery a couple years back I had grocery delivery for a while during recovery. I was restricted on driving and lifting. The delivery person was nice enough to either put the bags up on the kitchen counter or on my walker seat.
I stopped delivery after a while, as I was OK with going out more. But, should the time come when I cannot drive any more, I will resume it,
My pharmacy has a drive through pick up window. To my knowledge my pharmacy does not deliver, but there is another one in the area which does

I had groceries delivered one time. We were having renovations done and didn't want to leave the house. Besides, it was pouring rain that day and I didn't want to go out. It was quite expensive with the added tip and delivery charges. Probably won't do that again unless there's a very good reason for it. I hate grocery shopping so I usually order online from Walmart and go pick up my stuff. We started doing that at the beginning of Covid in 2020.

My 86 year old neighbor lady gets her groceries delivered. She has macular and can't drive any more. I've offered several times to take her or go pick up what she needs/wants, but she's always turned me down.

I try to avoid deliveries unless they are free. Always tip your driver at least $4.00 because you can bet the delivery company is witholding a part of that tip. DoorDash even admitted to that and I don't think Congress has stepped into make that illegal nationwide yet.

DoorDash Says It’s Very Sorry You Noticed Its Tip-Skimming Scheme

Apparently, the catechism in Silicon Valley is to say, "We're so sorry (you caught us) and we'll do better." California is a very dark place overall, I'm speaking in Dark Side Star Wars terms. So much corruption in business.

My Wife uses a sharpie marker to write the date that each can or box of food arrived in our house, so at a glance we know if an item is nearing it's expiry date. WE both drive, and within 5 kilometers of our house we have 5 supermarkets that we shop at, depending on what their online flyer specials are this week.

I've noticed that all over. Mark Zukerberg apologizes and promises to do better for some shady Face Book shenanigans every year or so.

I still go to the store myself, but this year I swallowed my pride and started riding one of their go-carts. It's so pleasurable, now, to be able to sit and read labels and think about meal planning at my leisure rather than grab things as fast as I can because my leg is hurting.

I never have any out of date stuff because every year, in January, I make it a point to use up every last thing in my pantry, and refrigerator, freezer, clean it and start over.

No, but my daughter does. She works 14 hr days and has no time to shop. Everything she orders is online (almost).

If I was in your situation, I too might do online food shopping. Meals on Wheels by senior centers is great too!!!

No! I figure the grocery stores would use that opportunity to unload their dented cans and almost out of date stuff on me.
Wow. That would be such a bad public relations move by any sensible business. Given the wide spread use by seniors of social media, how fast do you think this type of stupidity would go on with out it being made public? Grocery stores operate on razor thin profit margins. Dumping expired food products to home bound people would be down right stupid. An " investigative reporter's " TV station wet dream, if it actually happened.

No. I'm too picky. I'd have to be too specific, plus, I like to purchase sale items. It's easier to just go do it myself. And when I forget something, (always!) I only have myself to blame. But I refuse to self checkout.

As my health deteriorates and walking is painful , I have decided it is best to order the weekly shopping online, have it delivered. It takes all the pressure off. I've always enjoyed shopping and browsing, it was a great pleasure. Now it is just too fatiguing.

Also, I have requested my medicines to be delivered, which was easily arranged. I feel it is a bit like giving up in a sense but on the other hand it is sensible.

Have you put these changes into effect?
Grocery stores with lower prices are massively huge, and I started having trouble doing all that walking and then standing in line for what felt like forever. So I shopped at a relatively pint-sized BelAir Market for quite a while. A few months ago I started ordering our groceries and stuff online, and then I go pick it up.

But I'm going to try delivery for 2 reasons; 1) I don't like to drive, and 2) I don't want to download the stupid pick-up your shopping app on my phone, so, even if I'm the first one to pull in, and no matter how many times I call the I've arrived number, I'm always the last person to get my order.

When I went to pick up the groceries last week, it was104-degrees outside (40C) and I waited in my car for 44-freaking-minutes. 7 people got their order before me even though I got there before them and I scheduled the pick-up time. Within 10 minutes, inside the car felt like 120-degrees. I ran the AC now and then, but it's an old van and the engine would've overheated if I left it idling with the AC on that whole time...plus it wastes fuel.

So yeah, I'm gonna try delivery.

I've never used any of those services and since I don't have a smart phone, I wonder if it can be done through the computer?

But I have thought if I ever needed it, it's good to know it's available. Since I eat plant based, I'd have to be very careful about NO substitutions.

You can order things through the computer, but when you pull up to pick up you order you have to have a cell phone of some sort to call them and say you're there -- otherwise you'll sit in the parking lot for 44 minutes -- oh wait, Murrmurr had to anyway.

I agree with @Trade that you might get less-than-best produce etc. Not because they're particularly trying to unload it on you but that they don't take time to check dates or look for bruises. I watch the kids who load the online shopper bins and they work at top speed.

It is rare for me to receive anything that is not to my satisfaction. If so, I would let them know. They will give you a refund. The shoppers get to know you after they have been to your house a few times. So they know what I like. Walmart delivery is my favorite though. I know the store and that helps when I am ordering. I use Instacart also for the other stores as well.
