Yesterday the pharmacy called and said my thyroid medicine was ready. Must be some mistake. I don't have a problem with my thyroid. Later my primary doctor called and said my recent bloodwork showed an underactive thyroid. I picked up the prescription and was told to take it in the morning on an empty stomach. I looked up the side effects and the list of meds that it interferes with. One of them I take daily, in the morning on an empty stomach. Looks like trouble. We shall see.

Some people carry their meds in their pocket in a little container. I will need bushel basket.
I'm concerned why your doc prescribed a med that interferes with one of your other ones. Will you be asking about that?
I have left a message for him. From what I have read it often just requires a stronger dose of thyroid med. The recording says they will get back to me by the end of the day. Hope so since they are off on the weekend.
Good.

Well, looks like this Friday will not be so quiet after all for the third straight day. Such an advantage for a senior to live here in the San Francisco Bay area as there is so much happening one merely needs to check online about.

There is a Fleetwood Mac tribute band playing a 6pm>8pm outdoor concert on downtown streets about a half hour drive north. After seeing the unfamiliar band name, found this Youtube promotional video that shows they are excellent. So in another 4 hours will drive the 26 miles north for more music and dancing fun. Forecast shows 80F at a shady 6pm and 73F at 8pm so pleasant.

I've enjoyed a lot of Fleetwood tracks. Especially liked Christine McVie's vocals & songwriting contributions.

I just heard back from primary. The mature nurse who called has the same problem with the same prescriptions. She said keep 45 mins to an hour between meds. Her hint was to take thyroid med when she has early morning bathroom call. Then the gut medicine upon getting up. Then she showers etc., and it's time for food. No waiting 2 hours for breakfast. That was a good idea and reassuring.

I bought four bars of Pears bath soap. When I'm down to three or four bars, I buy again to store it because the longer it's stored, the longer it lasts. A bar lasts me about two months (no kidding!) so by the time I break open the first of the newest ones, it will have been stored 6-8 months.
I open all the bars of soap and store them in an open container so they can dry out. They usually last two or more months. When we travel, I pack my green bar of Pears.

@packleader, I love watching the birds in our 'hood, too. In addition to others, a canary or parakeet that evidently escaped captivity, about 10 hummingbirds, and numerous huge crows spend a lot of time in our yard or doing fly-bys.

When the pool is uncovered, dragonflies zip about 8" over the surface, then dip down to grab a drink without slowing their flight plan.

Nature is remarkably beautiful.

"Nature is remarkably beautiful." I totally agree, and even "nuisance" critters in our garden have a beauty on their own.

Our kids used to have an avery with two dozen parakeets. I loved the soothing chatter all day long, but termites eventually destroyed
the wooden avery. By then, the kids had found other interests. So, I didn't rebuild it. They also had pet snakes, and you name it. Our pet
cemetery contains not only a dozen dogs, but also chickens (they were pets, and you don't eat pets,) and all the other critters.

Hi Mr. Gopher, how are you doing? Digging up our garden?.................Aside from protected kangaroo rats, we also have alligator lizards, etc.

Our pond attracts not only visiting Mallards but all sorts of interesting birds, like Spoonbills (where do they come from? Mississippi Delta?)
Insects are plentiful, like dragonflies. But no mosquito problem because the Mexican Mosquito Fish in the pond garble up all the larvae.

We have many birds in our garden, probably because of the availability of shelter, water, and food. We are placing out bird feeders,
including those for hummingbirds who actually are building their nest under the eave of our roof. The woodpecker is getting rid of
insects in our trees. I wish I could attract them to building their nests here. At our bird feeders, we see orioles and other beautiful birds.

Hmm, good idea!

@hearlady Fact! I've been doing it for years...ever since I read about it online way back when I still lived in Michigan. That's more than 15 years ago. Just buy soap long before you'll need it so it has time to "season," so to speak.

Another way to save a few cents/bucks here and there is that when you have a coupon for something, buy the absolute smallest size shown on the coupon. If you've got a coupon for $1 off something that says "any size," then you get a better deal buying small.

...and I do a whole load more than all the 70 year olds I know... including my OA in my hands, knees and back.....
but but but...I'm way older than that. Well, to be fair, I don't have OA.

yes you are another 12 years older ?... but come back to me when you're driving yourself to bulk buy groceries.. then .. coming home and mowing several lawns and cutting back 100 feet of hedging..in 91 deg temps, sawing and drilling fences... .... then batch cooking portioning and freezing food for 2 weeks.. after you've been alone to the hospital appointment.. all while suffering OA in your knees, fingers, and spine, and in the meantime trying to battle a divorce petition at the same time, while keeping a big house clean ... ... ... we can go there...

I may be off the internet, so absent from SF, for an indeterminate period. A wildfire that started a few days ago on the ridge across from us above our valley is moving closer to an internet-transmission tower. It provides the Web and email to us. If it is damaged or destroyed, I'm not sure what our internet options might be, nor how long it would be to get an account and get it connected.

Anyhow, best wishes to everyone. Be well & happy.

Oh no. I hope they contain it before it gets too close. The main thing is that you and your family stay safe!

There is quite a bit talk about age and booboos. Here are my two bits.

My dad died at age 53 and my mom at 57. That's when I left Germany for Australia, and 5 years later to Canada/US. My siblings died already some years ago. I am now 88 1/2. Here are some of my booboos that I can remember offhand:

3 Hernia surgeries between 1970 and 1998 --- ruptured Achilles tendon repair 5 years ago --- breaking the fibula bone in my right leg while hiking --- Da Vinci prostate cancer surgery in 2011 --- 2 skin cancer surgeries including melanoma --- cataract surgeries in both eyes around 1997 --- bunion surgery --- urethral sling surgery --- colonoscopy with removal of potential cancer lesions --- 5th vertebrae crushed in a ski accident in 1970 that created a life-long problem --- backbone osteoporosis (this month I'll have another bone density test) --- finger arthritis that I mostly reversed wearing gloves at night and with Voltaren arthritis cream --- with a skill saw, I almost cut off my left thumb --- breaking up a dog fight, I got 2 dozen stitches in my left arm --- I am wearing hearing aids.

And more: numerous pre-skin-cancers removed --- lipoma --- trigger fingers mostly reversed --- ruptured nerves in toes while falling badly when I though my dog is being attacked by a coyote --- unsuccessful snoring surgery; now I am taping every night my lips with silicon tape --- well controlled knee rheumatism/arthritis --- 3 of 4 tendons in my right shoulder are torn loose; I regret not having gone ahead with a surgery; now I am using my mini gym to strengthen my shoulder muscles to compensate --- tendons and muscles in my left hip are torn that causes me to limp when walking too fast --- I had 3 very close calls with death in my life -- I am also 15 pounds overweight --- I have only a few original teeth left; otherwise all crowns.

But all that does not deter me from walking with my dogs one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. To strengthen my arms, I am using my mini-gym. I am also a health fanatic. No junk food; only healthy food in moderation. I believe my body's chemical factory is no longer working very efficiently, and therefore, I am taking many nutritional supplements, perhaps more than necessary. I am also taking prescription drugs for hypertension and cholesterol.

I have a positive attitude and am grateful for what I have. I just got my driving license renewed to age 93 (and will renewed it then,) and I try to do everything right to make it to age 100. That's my goal. In the meantime, I am getting everything in order for the inevitable end. We are made of stardust and will again become stardust, but our souls will live forever in heaven. I know it because my mom in heaven has guided and saved me throughout my life.

4:11 am. Guess I'm up for the day. Really need to learn how to shut off mind & get back to sleep. This isn't good. So, got only three hours sleep and I don't want to waste a summer day by napping. Hope I'll be okay.

Family making a trip to Philadelphia to enjoy family activities for a bit, so it's just old me to keep me company this weekend.

I hope your day gets better @Pepper Have you ever tried meditation or relaxation exercises? I never used to think these things helped until I went through a stressful time and eventually tried both and it really did help. There are YouTube relaxation/meditation music videos which I used initially. If you haven't already tried these things, it might be worth giving it a go.

Oh no. I hope the internet is all that affects you.
