If "blue skies and pretty flowers" means we comfort and provide advice to someone going through difficult times; share our lived experiences; share music we enjoy; learn valuable information about aging, finance, healthcare, home maintenance, etc. I'm all for it. I've learned some very valuable information from other members who are here to share constructive information. I've learned valuable information about property taxes, Medicare enrollment and Social Security among other topics.

I'm a regular on a political debate forum and if I want to argue I go there. Sometimes I like getting away from politics and this is a great forum for that. Even on the debate forum, I've seen other (non-political) sides of people when other threads are posted about music, family and culture and have agreed with them. That's what makes this forum so great. If we focus on our similarities rather than our differences we can actually learn to respect each other.

What seems strange to me is that discussions about religion are allowed. Doesn't that have the ability to become as contentious as political discussions? Not that I object to discussing religion, I think it's fascinating. I just think there's something out of sync with allowing one and not allowing the other.

Maybe it's that Religion can be seen as an objective matter of philosophy while Politics is almost always personal.
With one there's a choice, with the other we all have to live in the same airless box TOGETHER. Ugh! Too peopley.

Well, I went onto another site, the Seniors Only Club forum. In terms of politics, the majority of the people on there seem to swing one way when it comes to politics. I could voice my opinion but frankly, I don't want to deal with all the people who will oppose my view. And I am personally shocked by what some of these people say, this has to do with the US politics going on now. I'm not even American and of course, I'm sure that would be thrown in my face as well. I find this site a safer place to be or maybe safer is too strong a word, just a place where I feel more comfortable.

So you choose to talk with / discuss topics with those who agree with you only ?

OK, your business but, personally I feel we get a broader picture of a topic, learn more about it, if we discuss it with those on the other side.
