Americans, is Election Day advertising driving you mad?

We go through weeks of this baloney every 4 years. What these ads show is that both candidates are full of crap, and the only thing we can try to do is elect the "lesser of two evils".
What about the midterms? Are they not also fiercely contested?

Same old, same old - - - - Just another one of many, over my lifetime. I have little interest - know where my vote is going - and that's that. As some mention, the political ads stop reminding me of the various illnesses that I may already have, or are just around the corner.

When the election ads are over I can again concentrate on how many of the various life-threatening possibilities I may have contracted during the election season. 😩

Problem it's election season not day now a days. Early voting starts by the end of the month in some states for what ever reason. Even a 30 day limit on political advertising would not cover that.

So I don't own a television. I use an AT&T call blocking app. So just have to block several numbers that text me.

Writing as an Aussie, I know this isn't my thread but anyhoo, here goes.

I find that I am able to switch off from electioneering by paying attention to the behaviour of all parties during parliamentary sessions. I listen to Question Time on the radio fairly often. I avoid partisan pundits on TV.

Watching some of the NFL games today through US channel feeds in Buffalo & Detroit and ALL the commercial breaks were election related. Yes ... it's annoying!! Possibly more so because I'm Canadian?

Many of us Americans complain about politicians making their office into a lifetime career. At election time, we have a chance to stop it from happening, but it seldom happens when the incumbent loses. When I hear people complain about career politicians, I tell them you have an opportunity to change it, but how many times have you voted against the incumbent? We seem to have fallen into the trap of being a Party voter only. Even if the better candidate is of the opposite Party that we prefer.

I have always been an Independent, which disqualifies me from voting in the primaries, but I have yet to vote a straight ticket.

But you think, take your time and have an idea ahead time what you are going to do.

People are also lazy which is why they put numbers on food menus because it's too hard to order individually.

Agree. I receive a printout of all the candidates running for office, which shows their qualifications, their strategies and their paths going forward. Anything I am sure may be or may not be accurate, I check online on 2 different websites. Most important are the national elections, but I also look closely at the school board candidates and the local state Reps. Sometimes, both candidates have the same ideas.

I wish judges would not be affiliated with any Party. It sure would make choosing a judge easier, however, most judges run unopposed in my County. Not always, but generally often.

The State Assembly has been trying for years to allow us Independents the opportunity to vote in the primary's, but they haven't been able to get it passed.

Don't see many political ads as I don't watch much tv but I will occasionally watch news, sports, weather, science, nature. Like others, I am quick to mute content and during winter used to often leave the tv on with sound off as a heating source. However with energy costs now may do so less. We have a California ballot prop dealing with rent control and while watching morning tv news this morning noticed a heavily playing anti ad now playing by wealthy Wall Street and real estate corps. So yeah, my Mute button will stay warm that indeed can be an annoying task interrupting whatever else I may be doing.

Some of them make me laugh [and shake my head]. One of those is the one about the candidate that was once sued for firing a single mother ....

OK, so what ? What did she do to get fired ? Since when does a person's social position enter into their employment ? Or severance from employment ?

Since WHEN? It happens all the time, whether the true reason is given or not.

We haven't seen TOO many ads - a few on the national networks. (We live in an inconsequential state.)

BUT, what bothers me more is that every twitch or cough made by a candidate becomes a MAJOR NEWS Story! I could do without that! Whey should they pay for ads when the news outlets seem to be doing the work for free?? Surely there are other things happening in the world, we should know about???
We really should limit the campaign time to a few months. I just want it all to be over!
