I have been doing a lot of praying since Wednesday. I don’t think I would want to be outside during a storm of any kind and it’s been a practice in Florida that as soon as a hurricane passes, they issue tornado warnings. I haven’t seen a Florida tornado, but I have seen tornadoes in PA and Ohio. They aren’t anything to take a chance with.My granddaughter and her family lives in Polk County. The way it looks right now, it's going to smack you, her, and maybe us here in Seminole County. I have mixed feelings about flying out Tuesday (IF I can get out but I think everything will still be operating then). I'd cancel the trip but I've already canceled it twice and I need to go see some sick relatives before it's too late.
I worry about leaving the Spousal Equivalent here alone. Oh, we have a strong house, a relatively new roof, and no flooding problems, but we do have some huge oaks in the front yard that make me nervous. We've had a couple cut down but I can't bring myself to get rid of the other ones.
My fear is that without me to scream at him, he'll be out in the yard trying to cut things down the minute the 'cane passes and he's not a spring chicken. He has sworn to me that he won't be doing that, but I know better. He has a new "chainsaw-on-a-pole" that he's just DYING to use and it's the "dying" part I worry about. I don't want him up on a ladder or on the roof when I'm not here with my finger poised over the 9-1-1 button.
We'll squeeze the Harley in over by the washer and shoehorn my car into the garage with inches to spare. Normally, I park in the driveway but I want the car out of the way of falling branches.
At this point, all we can do is cross our fingers.
Let's pass that by FEMA. Maybe they can talk the feds into refilling their coffer for a Floridome Project. How about constructing a "dome" over all of florida??
There's a lot of rumors floating around about FEMA funds. Some are saying it was all used up to house immigrants, legal and illegal, mostly transporting them to and putting them up in motels and delivering 2 meals and a few apples or bananas every day. And some are saying this is why someone in congress proposed we stop funding sanctuary cities. They announced on the news the other day that FEMA was running out of funds for future disasters.
What happened to America first?
Makes you wonder why we don’t have a few hundred billions to help out Americans..
There are stories about police and city officials turning away individuals and organizations who have volunteered to help people who are trapped and hungry and have no clean water. Stories of regular Americans who own helicopters and boats being told they would be arrested if they helped with searches & rescues, and charities that had their truckloads of donated food and water seized and redirected by some sheriff. Reports confirmed that sheriff and his city supervisor are now on administrative leave, so, that might be true.
But what a mess. This would be the first time regular citizens were prohibited from helping their fellow citizens. There were times when helpers were strongly cautioned, but never prohibited under threat of arrest. That's crazy.
I'm not sure that's adequate considering that the entire State is also sinking beneath the waves. How about constructing a "dome" over all of florida??
In South Florida, sea levels have already risen several inches since the start of the century and could be around six feet higher by 2100. But another factor could be making those sunny day floods in South Florida worse: We’re sinking.
I don't remember - I'd have to go back and watch the video again, but that sounds right. It was a portly, mustachioed sheriff and a female city or county supervisor. The sheriff seemed like he wanted to be the only American Hero in his story, and someone said he accused the charities lady of stealing all the water and food donations....thousands of cases of aid.Which county placed the sheriff and city supervisor on leave? Was it in Tennessee?
Well, flight was just canceled and no others available. Guess I'm going to be riding out Milton at home.
Now off to cancel car rental and hotel.
The spammers never stop....in the last hour, I've received no less than 4....count 'em.....4 spam emails purportedly from the airlines offering me amounts of money in "apology" for canceling my flight. All I have to do is click on that suspicious-looking button and give them my banking info. Uh-huh. Sure.
Apparently Milton has been downgraded to a Cat 4.
