Election Day at last in America…

Good souls in the UK, Canada, and Australia (and elsewhere), please think of us in the U.S. as we cast presidential and congressional ballots today to literally determine the orientation and future of our country. I’m trying hard to give social rather than political commentary, but this election could be extremely consequential, and with the possible exception of the one in 2020, it’s hard to remember others in which campaigning has been as long, as bitter, and frankly, as outright crazy! There are no longer any references made to, “My worthy opponent,” but any other kind of reference or allegation, however ungrounded in fact, may fly…

As a measure of how things have changed, the notion of threats issued against election workers used to be unheard of. My late mother functioned as an election worker for years up until about the 1990’s. She enjoyed it, as it meant an easy $25 for her (good money at the time), a free sandwich lunch, and abundant opportunities to socialize while feeling somewhat important. The idea of being threatened or in fear for her safety never entered her mind, and she’d return for the next election cycle to do the cut-and-dry job responsibilities of a polling place worker…

Hoping to keep this thread out of the Underground section, so what are your social, psychological, philosophical, historical, and personal perspectives on Election in America, 2024? As for my perspective, I think that many of us are exhausted and burnt-out by what we’ve been through in the past number of months…we want to move on! 🇺🇸 🤔

Am not in good state, won't lie, I'm sick to my stomach. Thank goodness tomorrow I see my grandson. My grandson gives me courage, purpose, and a reason to live. Will do my best to divert myself, please folks, no politics on this thread.

Election Day. Like Death, you wait & wait for it and then here it is.

My mother always worked at the polls, too, and used the money to buy my father his Christmas present -- the only money that came into our house that he hadn't earned himself. What a different world we live in.

I'm all fixed up (make-up!) and ready to go just waiting for others to get up.

Don't worry Pepper, we'll all still be here tomorrow to celebrate or complain.

If we ever have a candidate in future elections that says ..... "my worthy opponent"

And or says he/she refuses to get caught up in mud slinging , only speaks of what he/she will do, or at least promises to do their best to do.

And acknowledges their opponent as a worthy candidate that just sees things differently , and whose views they do not share ....... No matter the party, I will vote for that person.

All that we have witnessed in the last decade or so ........ is just ridiculous.

There's mail today, right? Pick up & Delivery? Election Day not Federal Holiday. Here in NY, a State Holiday. Need to mail my monthly maint. PRONTO.

I haven't left the house and I'm mad already. Hubs happened to mention last night that we'll be voting in a different place this year. News to me.

So this morning I looked up directions both on Google maps and the "Iwillvote" site and they both said the same thing. Go to x, left on y left on Veterans Way, right on z. I was repeating it to Hubs as he went out the door (he has an appt) and he said Veterans Way was a one-way street with a "do not enter" half way down.

So most of the town, will be having to stop and turn around on Veterans Way and I expect many will just go back home .

I'm setting this one out. Moved to a new state a few months ago but have not changed drivers license, car tags, voter registration, etc. Maybe next week.

IMO, when choosing a leader, the things that should matter most is integrity, honesty, character, empathy and compassion, active listening, respect for others, accountability, ability to work with others, communication skills, and wisdom.

It's disturbing to me to see that so many of those qualities are eclipsed by loyalty. That can be a costly mistake.

I did "early voting". It was a breeze. Now, I'm out of town for a week, visiting relatives.

Thank goodness, as we are a "house divided". Whoever wins, SOMEBODY at my house is going to be unhappy and I'd rather be somewhere else.

Most of my family members share my political leanings, so I'm in good company today.

What will be, will be.......the sun will rise tomorrow and the world will keep turning.

Well we voted. Accidentally ran a stop sign because the low sun was blinding us.

I signed in with no hitch, but my son's machine pumped out a blank piece of paper. Wouldn't you know?
They had to work on the machine for a few minutes. We figure the votes from the whole state will be thrown out due to that malfunctioning machine.
