Well, this is certainly tedious. I've taught Econ and Finance at the University undergrad level, and Managerial Accounting at the Grad level, but I've never had to teach basic grade school math.
Yes, 1% of 368 mil is 3.68 mil, and 0.3% is about 1.1mil. 1.1 divided by 368 is NOT .003%
and Yes 1.1 mil is 1% of the total Covid cases. 1.1 divided by 112 mil is NOT .01%
Here's what Google AI says:
To express a number as a percentage, simply divide the number by the total value you want to compare it to, then multiply the result by 100; essentially, you are converting a fraction to a percentage by making the denominator 100, and adding the percent symbol (%) at the end.
Example:
- To express 25 out of 50 as a percentage:
- Calculation: (25 / 50) * 100 = 50%.
Key points to remember:
- Fraction to percentage: Divide the numerator by the denominator and multiply by 100.
- Decimal to percentage: Move the decimal point two places to the right and add a percent sign.
Jeebus....
Ok, now that your math lesson is over, and you may be right, hell It's been so long since I did math-Philosophy and Military don't use a lot of math-that you could have said anything and I probably would be wrong about it.
But what I find in a lot of forum posts, is people pick out spelling, grammar, MATH (lol), or other issues instead of understanding, responding or answering the post.
Regardless of the math or spelling, the numbers still are as you say around or under 1 percent. So once again, we did all this for 1 percent give or take. Do you think that was right?
I do not. Destroying education, economy, essentially damage our future for the 1 percent is plainly illogical and frankly outright stupid.
I have elderly parents and relatives, most of you do, and many of us are in that age range, so I am NOT saying that all those don't matter of course. But...what have we done to the future of the rest of society that barely were affected by it.
We operate on feelings and doing what we think is the right thing to do instead of logic, common sense and
actually what is the right thing to do.
A famous philo Trolly problem...
A version of this moral dilemma was first put forward in 1967 by the British moral philosopher Phillipa Foot, well-known as one of those responsible for reviving virtue ethics.
Here’s the basic dilemma: A tram is running down a track and is out control. If it continues on its course unchecked and undiverted, it will run over five people who have been tied to the tracks. You have the chance to divert it onto another track simply by pulling a lever. If you do this, though, the tram will kill a man who happens to be standing on this other track. What should you do?
Now of course since I mentioned I have people in this vulnerable group, so I in no way want them to suffer or die, but....to sacrifice 5 for the one is insane. There had to be a better way to protect the vulnerable during this time, (the one) without essentially destroying the rest (the five). Insdteag govts rushed, panicked and made the wrong choices.
