For giggles or hates...... who likes , dislikes Fruit Cake?
I like fruitcake well enough to eat a few slices during the holiday if some is offered, but not well enough to buy or make it myself.

I don't consume a lot of alcohol - never was a serious drinker - but from my first childhood taste of a rum baba, I've been completely turned off by alcohol in baked goods. It's beyond me why anyone would ruin a perfectly good cookie or cake with a dose of rum, bourbon, whiskey, etc. That includes fruit cake. If there's alcohol in it, I'll pass.

Yesterday, my new bread machine arrived, the low priced "Amazon" brand. I'm not even supposed to eat much bread, yet I buy a bread machine. I'm just bored. Bored yes, but not complaining as I am very grateful. I just need something different to do.

So early last night I turned out a loaf of basic white. It's pretty good! Many years ago I was using a bread machine for quite some time, but eventually gave it away during a move.

Now, I see I can bake a cake in it, but I have to read how.

DS stopped by after work yesterday for a brief visit and dislodged a vacuum attachment for me that was too tight.

I may venture out today. It's cold but sunny.

My aunt used to make a light colored fruit cake and it had whisky in it. I loved it!

Had second chemo treatment of the second series this morning. Went OK but around 1900 I suddenly got extremely cold and started shaking. Piled on blankets and heating pad. After an hour I finally warmed up. Guess my body doesn't like being poisoned.
I hope you start feeling better soon Llynn. May the treatment work and render you cancer free. I've always thought it must be a difficult choice...whether or not to take chemo, knowing it is toxic to the body.

I prefer stollen to fruitcake: no alcohol, some fruit but not as much, and sometimes can find one with marzipan - and I love marzipan. I have a recipe for an excellent stollen (w/marzipan) but haven't made it because I'm already so slamma-jammed with cooking and baking over the holidays.

Speaking of which, tonight is my first holiday party. So, so, so looking forward to it! Today's list includes last minute dusting, mopping, vacuuming, final bathroom blitzes, straightening up, setting up the table for cookie decorating and finally, arranging my pizza making station and toppings mise en place.

Homemade bread is so addictive, as are all flour based foods. That's how it works for me, at least, so I try to not have them around the house. The activity of baking is thoroughly enjoyable, but having the end products in my house is too tempting. That's why I limit baking to this time of year or for specific events.

The invite is for anytime after 5 PM. But you, my dear? Show up now if you'd like. I'll start you off with coffee and a couple of biscotti while we chat. ❤️

Home from doc. Need follow up CT scan in January for lung cancer I had in 2019. While I was out, did some grocery shopping to tide me over. Unfortunately, my son and grandson are not coming over today as they both have bad colds. I will miss them, very much. Will probably FaceTime with them later.

FaceTime and Zoom are magical, aren't they? ♥

@StarSong Aldi carries stollen with marzipan, and it's really good. This year they started stocking packages of stollen "bites," just little bite-sized pieces of stollen. A couple of those and a cup of coffee. Yum!

DD had some errands to run this morning so I went along. Amazing how just a few minutes out in the world makes me feel like I've been "out." Yesterday was hours, and that exhausted me. Today was less than an hour...just right.

Holy cow the traffic...oy! Next weekend will be the last weekend before Christmas. Guess who won't be out among the crowds? DD and I have already hatched a Walmart "plot" to get stuff for Christmas dinner on Thursday afternoon when she gets home from work. If the lord's willing and the creeks don't rise (as we used to say in Texas), we won't have to go anywhere else any more than a mile from home until after the holidays.

Next weekend I'm out for Christmas lunch with my daughter.. 2 hour drive up the motorway on what effectively is Chrismtas eve..the busiest Saturday of the year. No only shoppers, but people making the great Christams getaway...driving to airports, and to different parts of the country, and the motorway I have to use is the main motorway which connects the whole country from Scotland down to London...

I have to leave here early in the morning.. because we;re going to be doing a few things when I get to hers... and before we then drive 45 minutes to the venue... , then I want to leave before it gets dark at 4.30pm... because again the traffic is going to be horrendous.. and also many people will have had a few to drink on their last day at work for a fortnight.. or work parties etc.. so I have to have my wits about me.
I'm hoping to leave there about 3.30 that will give me at least one hour driving in some daylight , then another hour in the dark...

I'm back.
I said I had grandkids coming and I did. What I didn't say was that we met in Myrtle Beach.
We had a week booked and at the time my daughters family couldn't come with us.
Just before we went our SIL was called on last minute travel. My daughter forgot we were going and asked if we wanted to spend time with the kids while she got some Christmas shopping done.
We asked if she would still like to go as we had plenty of points to use up before the end of the year. She thought and said yes!
We were able to book another two bedroom adjoining ours.
We had a wonderful time. It was chilly but not cold. They took full advantage of the heated indoor pool. DH and oldest GD played some golf. We went to an interactive activity place suitable for the two year old but we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
DH and I may go back after Christmas alone as we have some more points to use. We got married in Myrtle Beach and remember how much we liked the winters when the tourists were gone. We try to go at least every few years.

What lovely family time Hearlady. I've only been to Myrtle Beach once when we had one of our family reunions there. We stayed right on the beach across from the amusement park. We were so busy with scheduled events, I didn't even have time to enjoy the amusements. But it was nice just the same. The hotel we stayed at had huge water bugs on the patio at night outside of the welcome room, which had food. ! I never saw one inside the welcome room or room we stayed in, thank God! You and your family made wonderful memories that you all will always remember.

I put another elastic waistband in a skirt. My last minute idea of how to do it was easier and more practical than what I originally thought to do. I “threaded” the elastic through a hole I cut on the inside using a large safety pin, then sewed the ends together. At first I thought I’d do it the way I do my slips and turn the waistband down around the elastic which would have taken much longer to sew.

I also dried and put away most of the laundry from yesterday. The clothes smelled fine, so I know from now on if I don’t feel up to finishing the afternoon I wash, I can
leave them until the next morning.

Morning folks... Sunny, with Blue skies.. and 52 deg.... 🌞🌞The forecast didn;t predict this, so I'm a little irritated, if I'd known I would have prepared myself to go out...I love to take sunny winter photos

Oh well... my back is hurting today anyway....I did quite a bit of moving stuff around yesterday which I shouldn't have done.. but hey, as long as it gets better before the weekend I'll be ok...(y)

Have a super Sunday peeps

It's gonna be a rainy and overcast day here. 45F right now and not expected to get much warmer, but tomorrow and Tuesday will be in the upper 60s and sunny. Guess that means I should clean up a little more of the garden. After all, spring is just around the corner, and it needs to be ready to plant, right?

I don't think there's anything on the to-do list today. Maybe vacuum up the kitty fur? Sit on my dead center and philosophize?

Yesterday's Dessert for Dinner was a new recipe that looked like it'd be okay. It was waaaaay too sweet. DD and DSIL actually liked it, but I won't be making it again. 🤢
