Let’s try and put the Christ back into Christmas

Let’s form a mass and focus on the Christ

He said he’d build ‘his’ church

On the Petra not the ‘tros

And there’s so many manmade edifices I don’t know what’s worst?

We’ve called them different names

To glorify ourselves and not his name?

He made it sound quite clear “ I’ll build my church”?

He didn’t say it was his fathers; his mother or his brothers?

He simply said “my church” – that’s pretty plain?

So let’s give worship to the Christ

As we mass to sing his praise

And maybe Christmas will come back to us again?

That is great. I am sure there are many people who feel the same way. I hope you all can worship together in joy and peace! :)

It seems a bit strange to me since the celebration of Christmas was a pagan holiday, and introducing the birth of Christ into it was more a matter of convenience. He most likely wasn't even born that time of year.
I'm not against anyone celebrating his birth, it just seems odd to do it on a pagan holiday that had nothing to do with his birth.

we do some strange things as humans on this hurling planet in space - but the Gods and the Heavens - another story and still a mystery - doubt if they follow man made rules?

Christmas has certainly turned into something I'm sure Jesus didn't intend. It's about who can spend the most money and go into debt doing so to produce the most impressive presents. People pushing and fighting each other to get to Black Friday deals at crowded malls and stores. Craziness! I think that in many cases, the original purpose of Christmas has been lost. I'm glad I no longer have to deal with that madness.

Christians never forget. Some Christians choose to not participate in any secular Christmas celebration at all. They choose to simply worship Jesus The Christ. I find joy and peace in doing both. Jesus is The Reason For The Season for me and I enjoy my colorful, sparkly Christmas decorations. I like the Christmas music hymns, Silent Night, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, and I like the traditional secular Holiday songs, Silver Bells, Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire... Thanks for sharing your verse. ✝️🎄

I hear you. ❤️

I think this is really a pagan holiday, celebrating light, stars, fire, warmth, gift exchanges (though that may be a newer addition), music, family, an general celebration. After all, in those days it was a pretty big deal that the earth stopped getting darker and light started returning. Imagine how scared they must have been by all that darkness every year.

The myths and stories about Jesus and oil lamps miraculously burning for 8 days got appended to the pagan festival. Jesus was born in the middle east in the spring. What does that have to do with evergreen trees and December? Hanukkah is a celebration of a military victory against a ruthless, cruel army that was persecuting the Jews. The oil lamp story came along several centuries later.

These holidays are fun and exciting, and obviously good for the economy. But they have little to do with any religion I've ever heard of. And what are our fondest entertainment memories? The Nutcracker (about a party and a little girl's dream), A Christmas Carol (a nasty old miser gets his comeuppance, also due to a dream), Miracle on 34th Street (Santa Claus in a NY department store), a Charlie Brown Christmas - enough said.
Probably Handel's Messiah is the only religious mass entertainment, plus the wonderful Mormon Tabernacle choir annual concert.

Put Jesus "back" into Christmas? He was never really there. It reminds me of a certain 4-letter slogan about making something great again, but I'm not allowed to discuss that here.
