I am craving split pea soup.

We need to make a pot and use up the bones too. Have 3 now... But ours takes some time...
1st need to make more veggie and bone broth.
Soak 2 bags of peas, (yes 2... we make a batch) then pressure cook them with the ham bone and spices.
Then into the BIG pot with ham more broth carrots potatoes herbs and spices to slow cook a few hours.
Eating depends on the plans for leftovers, Can or Freeze. If canning will have the jars ready, pack and start pressure canning.
If freezing will eat and once cool go into containers then Vac-u-seal after a day or so.
I just had a hot bowl of split pea and ham soup...have enough for couple feasts...this soup was ny husband's favorite ..and bittersweet when I make it
 

LA is a very competitive market, and being in close proximity to 3 potato (and onion) producing states so they are continually offered "deals" by shippers. ID potatoes are typically more expensive than WA or OR so it's hard for Idaho shippers to sell there unless they sell very cheaply.
I didn't realize this; thanks for the info. Being so close to Mexico, Ojia and California's Central Valley, our fresh produce quality and prices are almost always very reasonable, especially from stores specializing in produce.

For reasons unknown, common brown onions abruptly doubled in price here 1-2 years ago. When they're on sale for 39¢/lb or less, I scoop up 5 lbs-ish, chopping & freezing most for future use.

Produce prices and availability can vary widely, and onion prices can be volatile especially during the transition in late spring when the storage deal is over and new growing areas come on line.
