Reflections of My Life

As you all probably know I am a big animal lover. There isn't any animal that I have ever owned that was not spoiled. For some reason the men in my previous life may have appeared to like animals but they would never spoil them. Or put themselves out for the animals. Until my present relationship with Sonny. His dog is queen of his home and in return she takes her job of protecting him first above all things, including food. That is one of the things that attracted me to him (on fb).

So many of the videos I have watched lately have been about the pets that were lost during the fires in LA. And found! I have watched that one video about the man who came back to his house and his dog, Oreo ran down the driveway to him. He gathered Oreo in his arms and was jumping up and down with happiness. I love that video and have watched it a bunch of times. It went viral and was even on several news channels.

When the fire alarm goes off in my building the very first thing I do is put Rabbit in the kitty carrier. I take him out with me. The others who live here though, leave their pets in their apartments. I cannot and will not do that. Two other tenants takes their dogs out with them but nobody else. And nobody takes their cats out. I have no time to gather my important stuff like I would do if I did not have Rabbit. So I am putting together a bag that I keep in my closet by the door with the important stuff in it. Plus getting that soft sided carrier for Rabbit.

I wrote for years online about being prepared and lived it at the time. Since being here I have not really done much about it. It is different here and I am going to see what I can do just in case.

It has been very cold here and will be probably through February too. No matter how much people complain about it that is the way it has always been in NY state. 15 degrees when I got up this morning and now I see it is starting to snow. I ordered groceries for Rabbit & myself today. Will be delivered between 12 and 2. Should be warmed up a bit by then. The sun is shining presently.

I don't know what is wrong with me. Maybe my skin is thinning out as I age. I remember taking care of my residents in the nursing homes and them getting those skin cuts. Mine is not like that at all. But the last two days I cut myself on a piece of hay.........yeah, one piece of hay and made me bleed a tiny bit. Then yesterday I cut myself opening a box on the corner of the lid. That one is a cut about an inch and a half. it bled so I had to put a band aid on it.

People around here are getting colds so I am staying by myself as much as possible. I take various extracts throughout the year and I think they help my immune system so I don't get them. I have not had a cold in a long time now. But I still take precautions like avoiding contact with others. If Jeff gets one I just have to pray I don't get one. He smokes so he is more apt to get one as well as the fact that he eats processed foods including sugar. I have learned that I cannot change anyone from their bad habits. So I never mention it anymore.

I have been binge watching the show 48 Hours. It is on YT so I am usually doing it while I am coloring. One thing I see is that a good deal of the time the murders that take place are a husband and wife situation. Why don't they just get a divorce? I guess that is one more reason to be single. :ROFLMAO:

Rabbit is loving the new rug runner I got him. It is really soft and feels good under my feet. I am tempted to get one like that but smaller and not a runner for in front of my computer chair. It would be nice to have it for my feet too. It was not expensive and I think I got it from Walmart online.

The apartment down the hall is finally being emptied out. The guy who lived there left but did not take his stuff. They had to evict him to be able to remove his things. It took a long, long time. For almost two years! Yesterday someone was removing his things but I don't know if it was him or someone else. Whoever it was they just opened the windows and was dropping stuff out the window to the ground and putting in the dumpster. It was very noisy and someone said it was a big mess outside the building. Well, no manager here yesterday (or most days now) so they could basically do what they pleased.

I think it will be quiet today. If the sun comes out I will take a walk to the dumpster. I need to get outside at least just for that. I have been finding the cold does make it harder to walk even though cold weather never bothered me in the past. We are going through a really long cold spell. I have been keeping my windows blocked most of the day now. If the sun comes out I open the black out curtains a tiny bit. Just enough for some sun to come in. As soon as it clouds over I close them. Keeping my bunny boy warm.

Stay warm Kat. I remember those very cold temperatures very well. Here in Florida, it is 41 right now. 6:30 am. 🥶

That happens in my complex quite often.

It’s a sad reminder not to put too high a value on our possessions, it’s just stuff!

Wishing you and Rabbit a warm and peaceful day!!!

My goodness Kat was that tenant a hoarder? Who was doing the emptying of the apartment...was it a hired cleaning service?

It sure is cold! Below zero or single digits overnight and I jump for joy when it hits 20 during the day! Like you I keep my drapes closed at the slider. It faces north..brrrrr.

Stay warm ♨️

Not to be an old nag but be careful of too many extra rugs because of tripping. 🤗

I walked out to the dumpster instead of doing the hall. I figure it is about the same length or more. Thanks for asking!
I was always harped at by pros that we should NEVER substitute routine work or home/office activities for specific exercises.

Now I see I'm harping at you. Maybe that's why harpies abound: copycats.

The rugs I have for Rabbit are only for him. I put his food and treats on them. They are right next to the front of the dressers and I have the rest of the room with just the normal wall to wall carpeting to walk on. The rug I mentioned getting for me would be under my table in front of my chair. I would not be walking on it. Just keeping my feet warm.

Bunny mom - you may want to check Amazon for under desk heat pads. Mine is actually a foot rest and I had flat rug heat pads in the past.

Oh, Pappy! As a former northerner, you should be ashamed of using the 🥶 for your early morning outdoor temp of 41!🤓😎😏😄😁😊

Kat, We're in a very cold spell here, too, a ways northeast of you, in New England.
Nice clear sunny day though, with a bit of fresh air that I went out in, for about 10 minutes, as frigid as the wintry breeze was;
it did seem refreshing and lifted my spirits that bit, too.

Not a hoarder but he just moved out with no notice or anything. Did not come back to get his stuff or mail. Finally we found out he moved in with his girlfriend but still did not take his things. Legally they could not remove his things until he was evicted and even then had to wait a certain amount of time to give him a chance to get his things. Still he did not. He did have a lot of books, papers and stuff that was in bags.

It is a bit warmer this morning.......20 degrees. So the crows are being noisy again. Did not hear them for the last week when it was below that. It is first light right now and I am just starting to see the sky. First light is my favorite time of the day. It means my day is starting. I have never liked night time. Maybe that is why I sleep so well. I can't wait for morning.

The sky is not dark now but a gray color and the white silver looking clouds are moving across it. It looks magical. Probably a sign that it is cold.

My African Violets both have been blooming like crazy! And to think I almost threw them out. It is my Daddy messaging me. The one plant was his and the other one I started from that one. So it is my connection with him.

More coffee now and then breakfast. Not sure if I will be doing my laundry or not. Depends on if anyone else is down there.

Thanks for explaining about the eviction.

How sweet about your dad's flowering African violets, Kat.

My GS and family are coming today and will install my new kitchen faucet. Excited! 28F here, yippee.

I agree, that is very nice about those African violets!
@katlupe

And that it seems to me, to be a bit of a warming trend, that both of you mentioned.
It's that way here, too, though of course, it's still quite chilly!

Good morning to you both, and to others reading here!☺️😎🤩

Yeah, same around here. The smaller birds that come to our feeders (that is, smaller than the ravens, owls, occasional hawk, or duck that we see on our place) stay elsewhere. Appreciating their feathers. And no doubt living on what fat they've developed, and waiting for the temp to get warmer.

It's not been very cold for this time of year (-10C at night, so far), and it will become more normal soon... but we also get some thaws during winter.
