Kat. you're wise not to walk out on that ice. Don't feel bad about others helping with the trash...look at how helpful you are to others!Second morning in the row of the elevator not working. Yesterday I looked out and saw both, the up and down lights were lit and stayed that way. Then the maintenance man came to work and a little bit after that it was running again. I hope he works today. This is what happens when you put things off. Same with the weather. If I need to do something and it is nice and clear outside and I decide to do it the next day...........the next day comes and it is a blizzard or pouring rain. Always happens.
Since there is a shortage of salt for the roads our snow removal guy who usually salts our driveway and ramp is not able to do that. So the ice and snow stay and it is icy and when it warms up it gets slushy, Then it gets cold again and freezes through out the night. I am afraid to walk on it. Jeff has been taking my garbage out to the dumpster for me.
I see since I have been writing this, the elevator lights are out. Supposedly that means it is working. Do I trust it? I would trust it better if our manager or at least the maintenance man was here. Neither is. The manager has not been here all week. This is a problem here. They advertise that we have 24 hour maintenance and we do not. Yes we have a number to call but that does not mean they get back to you or even show up. Our manager is rarely here. She put a sign up saying she would be here on Thursday and Fridays but it is just luck if she shows up.
We would not need them all the time IF things were kept in good working order or clean at least. I have lived in apartments in my past long ago and normally did not see the managers unless there was a problem. And that was rare. Buildings were kept in good repair and if there was a problem it was taken care of immediately. Not here. I guess it is what happens when your building is low income housing.
So that is my thoughts for this cold morning...........
I would like to give the elevator a kick...........but sadly, the elevator repairman was here and he said it is done. He told his boss on the phone that there is no power to it. Then told one of the guys who lives here that it can't be fixed. So..........I am going to try to do some exercises that I should have been doing already, to try to enable me to walk down the stairs. I have no choice. I have to.Kat. you're wise not to walk out on that ice. Don't feel bad about others helping with the trash...look at how helpful you are to others!
Your poor neighbor lady who comes and cries....bless you for your kindness to her. I've great respect for you Kat.
Give that elevator a good kick.
Hey Katlupe... sorry to intrude but wanted to offer a possible fix or two. I'm not sure though what type of walkers that you're referring to.I would like to give the elevator a kick...........but sadly, the elevator repairman was here and he said it is done. The only problem I can think of is how to get my walker down there with me. I need it. The video I am watching about it said to keep my hands free. Hold the handrail. Don't carry anything with me. I do have 2 walkers and could keep one in the storage room but I would have to walk from the stairs to there. I will know more after I hear what the manager is going say or do about the elevator. In the meantime, I can't go downstairs until I figure out how to get down there on my own.
You are not intruding at all. I like ideas from my friends here. Thank you for reading and sharing here!Hey Katlupe... sorry to intrude but wanted to offer a possible fix or two. I'm not sure though what type of walkers that you're referring to.
1. If it's the 4 footed kind where you hold on with both hands & it has a cross-section that's in front of you... could you leave one at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top? Is the building safe enough for that?
2. If it's the kind that are similar to a cane, there's an item on the market called a shotgun sling... pretty straight-forward as to what it's designed for... but it should work equally fine for canes.
Either way, I hope for the best and will pray about it too... if that doesn't offend.![]()
Do you change the position of your feet when it is on the plate? I saw that on a video and have been doing that. I am still a bit nervous using it because my knees hurt and anything I do seems to make them hurt more. I am glad you mentioned it to me and think I will go do it right now.How are you liking the Vibration Plate, @katlupe ? I use mine just about every day. I try to do one standing (hanging on to something for balance) vibration, and then before bed at night, I sit on my walker seat and put my feet on the vibration plate for the 10 minutes.
I am getting better circulation, and my large veins in my legs are not showing as badly as they did before.
My daughter has MS, and I watched the video by Dr. Terry Wahls, who is the leading MS doctor, and she said on the video that she recommends it for her MS patients.
Our snow is about gone now, and I am sure looking forward to spring !
I appreciate that would are so welcoming! You're the one that's sharing... humble, introverts like me just kibbitz from the wings, haha. You are not intruding at all. I like ideas from my friends here. Thank you for reading and sharing here!
My walker is the Rollator walker with 4 wheels and a seat. I do have two of them but cannot leave one downstairs by itself. It would disappear for sure. I have a locked up storage locker in the storage room and could keep one there. Just have to walk from the stairs to there by holding onto the wall I guess.
Maybe a cane. I could never carry the walker going down the stairs. When descending the stairs you really should have your walker with you in case you need to sit down at the landing. Can you collapse it and set it down every couple of steps as you go?
And maybe a cane would be helpful.
The stairs I have to use to go downstairs. The steps are small, because this building is an old high school.

No, I meantMaybe a cane. I could never carry the walker going down the stairs.
There is a room down on the lower level that has extra walkers and chairs but I don't want to use them. I will figure it out if I find I can manage going up and down the stairs first. I might just put my extra walker in my own locked storage locker and get it when I get downstairs. I will see.Could you fold walker and slide it down steps and have it waiting on landing for you? Not sure about how you would get back up though.
Ted had good idea about locked walker on first floor. Could this type of thing be hooked up where all people could lock their walkers in one spot, like bicycle rack?
