Reflections of My Life

I took a day off of the computer. Just needed some time away from the world. Last night I put a cardboard sheet on the middle window against the glass to see if it would be warmer in here. Worked better than I thought. It is between the window and the blackout curtain. Today I think I will do it better and maybe the other two windows as well. They are really big windows, tall too. So I am not blocking the whole window so we still get light in here. Just want the floor warmer for my bunny boy.

Sonny is having a good time with his new little dog, Rusty. He can now let him outside with Cinnamon to go to the bathroom without the leash. So he does not have to go out with him. He stays with Cinnamon and comes back in on his own. That was the only thing Sonny was afraid of. He is not neutered yet and he will have that done in the spring. When anyone comes to his house he runs right to them and wants them to pet him. Where Cinnamon is not like that when someone first comes in. She stands guard by Sonny just in case.

I want to buy a bed frame this year so I can sleep in a bed again. I found the frame I want on Amazon. The only problem with that will be how to get it up to my apartment when it arrives. The post office or UPS will not carry it to my door. When I got Jeff's bed it was a problem but he finally got it up to his 3rd floor apartment in the middle of the night.

Then when I get it up here it needs to be put together. Not sure I can ask the new maintenance man to do it for me. I might be able to find a handy man I could pay to do it. I am not buying the mattress at the same time. One problem at a time.

Today I am doing some cleaning in my apartment. Vacuuming, cleaning my computer equipment and the television. Nothing too strenuous. Every now and then, even though I basically eat very low carbs, less than 20, I like to have a Marie Callender chicken pot pie. I know it is not good for me but I really love them. So once in awhile I will order a couple and have them in my freezer. Tastes good on a cold day!

This last week my friend from down the hall has been coming to my apartment upset. Usually crying. I try to help her but don't really know how. She has dementia and cannot tell me exactly what is wrong. I think maybe her husband runs out of patience and can't figure out what she is saying. I don't want to interfere with them so I just let her sit here. Sometimes she just cries and needs me to hug her. Lately I have been putting on that Blueberry the bunny video for her (the one I posted a few days ago here). She laughs. Then feels good enough to go back home.

I have not been able to walk outside to the dumpster at all. It is icy and bitter cold. Yesterday, Jeff took it out for me. The day before my neighbor took it out when she walked her dog. I hate having other people have to do it for me. I am just afraid of falling on the ice and getting snow in the wheels of the walker.

Second morning in the row of the elevator not working. Yesterday I looked out and saw both, the up and down lights were lit and stayed that way. Then the maintenance man came to work and a little bit after that it was running again. I hope he works today. This is what happens when you put things off. Same with the weather. If I need to do something and it is nice and clear outside and I decide to do it the next day...........the next day comes and it is a blizzard or pouring rain. Always happens.

Since there is a shortage of salt for the roads our snow removal guy who usually salts our driveway and ramp is not able to do that. So the ice and snow stay and it is icy and when it warms up it gets slushy, Then it gets cold again and freezes through out the night. I am afraid to walk on it. Jeff has been taking my garbage out to the dumpster for me.

I see since I have been writing this, the elevator lights are out. Supposedly that means it is working. Do I trust it? I would trust it better if our manager or at least the maintenance man was here. Neither is. The manager has not been here all week. This is a problem here. They advertise that we have 24 hour maintenance and we do not. Yes we have a number to call but that does not mean they get back to you or even show up. Our manager is rarely here. She put a sign up saying she would be here on Thursday and Fridays but it is just luck if she shows up.

We would not need them all the time IF things were kept in good working order or clean at least. I have lived in apartments in my past long ago and normally did not see the managers unless there was a problem. And that was rare. Buildings were kept in good repair and if there was a problem it was taken care of immediately. Not here. I guess it is what happens when your building is low income housing.

So that is my thoughts for this cold morning...........

Kat. you're wise not to walk out on that ice. Don't feel bad about others helping with the trash...look at how helpful you are to others!

Your poor neighbor lady who comes and cries....bless you for your kindness to her. I've great respect for you Kat.

Give that elevator a good kick.

I would like to give the elevator a kick...........but sadly, the elevator repairman was here and he said it is done. He told his boss on the phone that there is no power to it. Then told one of the guys who lives here that it can't be fixed. So..........I am going to try to do some exercises that I should have been doing already, to try to enable me to walk down the stairs. I have no choice. I have to.

The only problem I can think of is how to get my walker down there with me. I need it. The video I am watching about it said to keep my hands free. Hold the handrail. Don't carry anything with me. I do have 2 walkers and could keep one in the storage room but I would have to walk from the stairs to there. I will know more after I hear what the manager is going say or do about the elevator. In the meantime, I can't go downstairs until I figure out how to get down there on my own.

Hey Katlupe... sorry to intrude but wanted to offer a possible fix or two. I'm not sure though what type of walkers that you're referring to.

1. If it's the 4 footed kind where you hold on with both hands & it has a cross-section that's in front of you... could you leave one at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top? Is the building safe enough for that?

2. If it's the kind that are similar to a cane, there's an item on the market called a shotgun sling... pretty straight-forward as to what it's designed for... but it should work equally fine for canes.

Either way, I hope for the best and will pray about it too... if that doesn't offend. 🙏

You are not intruding at all. I like ideas from my friends here. Thank you for reading and sharing here!

My walker is the Rollator walker with 4 wheels and a seat. I do have two of them but cannot leave one downstairs by itself. It would disappear for sure. I have a locked up storage locker in the storage room and could keep one there. Just have to walk from the stairs to there by holding onto the wall I guess.

How are you liking the Vibration Plate, @katlupe ? I use mine just about every day. I try to do one standing (hanging on to something for balance) vibration, and then before bed at night, I sit on my walker seat and put my feet on the vibration plate for the 10 minutes.
I am getting better circulation, and my large veins in my legs are not showing as badly as they did before.
My daughter has MS, and I watched the video by Dr. Terry Wahls, who is the leading MS doctor, and she said on the video that she recommends it for her MS patients.

Our snow is about gone now, and I am sure looking forward to spring !

Do you change the position of your feet when it is on the plate? I saw that on a video and have been doing that. I am still a bit nervous using it because my knees hurt and anything I do seems to make them hurt more. I am glad you mentioned it to me and think I will go do it right now.

I do change position, @katlupe . Mine is a square one, so it is easy to stand in any direction on it, plus it has the little magnets that are also supposed to be healing.
When I stand sideways on it, the vibration is then forward and backward, and I feel that clear up my neck and face. It makes it much stronger than the sideways one, so it probably helps different muscle groups. I always hang on to something to stabilize my balance, but I actually think that i am starting to have better walking balance than I had before.
Sitting and putting my feet on it before bedtime warms up my feet and legs and takes out any stiffness in my feet before i go to sleep.

Poodle seems to like it , too, and he comes and stands by my feet at night and puts his paws on my knees, and sometimes he just stands on the plate. Sometimes, I hold him in my lap and pet him, and he loves all of that.
It is supposed to be excellent for pets, and I am glad that Poodle likes it.

I appreciate that would are so welcoming! You're the one that's sharing... humble, introverts like me just kibbitz from the wings, haha.

It's a shame that you can't leave the walker downstairs... maybe a bicycle lock might help, IDK?... regardless,
I do hope that some form of solution comes your way soon. If you do end up trying the thing with the
storage unit, be careful... at least the stairs offer a handrail, and the wall thing sounds risky.

Yesterday, I walked around the hallway twice. The last time with my friend who used to walk with me. We stopped at our neighbor/friend's apartment to say hello. She was so happy we came! She cannot go down the stairs either. So we had a nice time talking with her. Then I walked my friend back to her apartment and she wanted me to come in. So I talked a bit with her husband. He is such a nice man and he does take good care of her.

Today I will do a bit of housework mostly. Walk some more. I used the vibration plate again yesterday. 3 minutes yesterday, so will be 4 today. They said to start slow. I am using it seated. At this point right now, I am afraid to stand on it. Maybe if I become more familiar with it. I am watching a lot of different videos on it and it has had a lot of good results. So I am hopeful.

Could you fold walker and slide it down steps and have it waiting on landing for you? Not sure about how you would get back up though.

Ted had good idea about locked walker on first floor. Could this type of thing be hooked up where all people could lock their walkers in one spot, like bicycle rack?

There is a room down on the lower level that has extra walkers and chairs but I don't want to use them. I will figure it out if I find I can manage going up and down the stairs first. I might just put my extra walker in my own locked storage locker and get it when I get downstairs. I will see.
