Could you live without your phone and the internet?

what's worse is people these days are talking as they're walking along the road..alone ! They don't have a phone in their hands they're talking into a Bluetooth piece..which you can't see.. so it looks like they're demented..
Sometime in the Covid era the number of lone walkers really picked up here. Some of that was down to a nearby apartment complex getting tough on walking there since they have no sidewalks at all. A gaggle of karens signed up to give out citations.

With time, singles have crowded out the young families living there. So now we get a ton of solo adult walkers in our single-family homes area, quite often yapping loudly into BT buds. Yes, they do look demented.

well that's me then... I won't be visiting Miami..if people are so rude..that would complately spoil my holiday
I think the cruises leave from Miami so what a lot do is they come here couple days before the cruise leaves then they get hotel service to the port . Do not think many coming to Miami per-se anymore now Key West you would like .

Miami beach hotels are very expensive so they stay more " in land " with the tour package .

I have yet to go to Walmart in years where did not meet Europeans and not like hunting your bunch down to try out my new jokes or am I ?

Yes as you know I sometimes confuse accents as far as UK and Australia but let us not unsheathe our daggers , lets stay calm .

It's a wonder they aren't picked up by men wearing hospital intern jackets. ;)
Keep in mind some drivers and they seem to mostly be bald men over 70 sometimes tell themselves jokes and laugh while driving in fact they have been known to even argue with themselves but I would not say they are demented .

I think it's great that they find themselves to be great company conversationalists.

Could'n't hit specific key or keys on a cellphone. Finger would jump around and hit every key if I tried dialing even 1 or 911. Is there any cellphone that would automatically dial 911 on its own when that happens?:D
If you have an iPhone you could use Siri to call 911 or a family member for you. Other smart phones have an equivalent to Siri.

Yes. We lived before it. I'd need a phone book though.

That isnt really a good comparison though - yes we lived without one before they existed - but things have changed.

for example I used t o be able to get tickets for things by lining up at the ticket office - now it is all online - so where as we didnt need the internet before, we now do.

There were public phones all over the place - now most have been removed - hence we didnt need a mobile phone before but we now do.

I'm sure there are lots of other examples

Funny you should ask. We just lost power here. I have 60% left on my phone. Then darkness. :)
get a charging bank and keep it charged up....it's brilliant for times like these when you have a power cut and need to charge your phone. You can charge a phone up to 3 or 4 times from a fully charged charging bank.. and once charged they hold a full charge for a very long time without recharging...I always have mine on standby

That would be great. We will get one soon. Being without lights, appliances, even the well pump, we try not to use. That is hard too. We don't have any back up.
The electric Co. Was here, but they left...still no juice.

I have a smartphone for one reason & one reason only, to get the 'stupid' OTC text for my accounts otherwise I just ignore it & hand the phone to my wife. Have you ever heard the whistle feedback from a phone with hearing aids on? Not pleasant. Send an email or text if you want a response. I read much better than I hear.

yes do get one, they're so cheap to buy and they can be used to charge your phone and to have enough power for you to use a laptop or ipad for a short time as well. but aside from those things, it even can save money just on charging your phone outside of emergencies.

To save money on occasions i have found myself using my fully charged charging bank, to charge my phone overnight..3 nights in a row without using any electricity.. then rechrge the Bank which only takes a couple of hours.. and then using it again to charge my phone 3 days in a row..without plugging anything in...might not a be much eectricity saved but it's btter than none...

Also when you're looking at which to buy remember to check that it's compatible for your prticuar phone

So all may rest easy.....OUR POWER IS BACK ON!!! :)

I pair my Hearing Aids to my phone to receive and sent calls.
With their app on the phone, I can control the Aids, which is a nice feature.

A Smart Phone is just a tool; it has good points if used as such.

Ok, so sorry you didn't like my response.

Remy - not sure if I am just reading text wrong - your reply seems sarcastic? not sure why?

I didnt dislike your post - I was just adding my thoughts to what you said.

We would not like to be without our phones, my DH can answer his phone via a button on his hearing aids when driving
or in a social gathering, place his phone on the table to be involved in group conversations.

We are usually away for 6-7 weeks in winter , our security system
is controlled / viewed on our phones if anyone one comes to the front door we can talk to them via the security regardless if we are home or away .

We can view our gardens ( via the self monitored security ) If the garden needs watering , we have a watering system we operate on our phones ….. (We can and do have some very dry winters in South Australia )

the list gos on and on ….why we’d be lost without our phones ..and of course we need the internet to have the security / watering system / lights control inside home when not home

I could live without anything electronic re: iPhone and internet, computer. Would be simpler. Would enjoy a private land line though.
I do need my car.
I still pay some bills by snail mail, write letters by snail mail (and people love getting them, believe me) to keep up on my handwriting practice, fine motor function.

Having lived without an indoor toilet, no washing machine or dryer, no internet or computer...I could live without them. I prefer simple life, doing things physical, outdoors not being connected to everyone and everything under the sun.

I enjoy having the internet to learn more things and be able to order things mailed to me or dropped off rather than have to go out and find things, drive in traffic or have to load them in my car these days. Trellises, mulch, dirt, bricks, block, plants, pots, bird feedings all get dropped off usually these days.

I often miss encyclopedias and dictionaries, newspapers, though. The physicality of it, the turning of paper pages, not having to electronically CHARGE yet another battery.
