Weight Loss Accountability/Support Group Thread

Now that the weather is improving, I’m able to get out and walk a couple miles every day.

The winter blubber is gradually melting away!

I’m still trying to find a healthy balance to maintain my weight without exercise and still have room for the foods that are important to me. 🍕🍦🍫🍔

The struggle is real! 😉🤭😂
Aunt Bea - weird and late breakfasts work for me. Sweet potatoe, spicy tofu, boiled eggs, cowboy candy, hotsauce, pretzels. Normal dinner including appetizer, 3 or so glasses of wine.
What do you enjoy to eat? There is nothing wrong with ice cream for breakfast:)

Wow, when I was closely monitoring my calorie intake in a class I took, one of the first things they told us is if you hope to lose weight alcohol is the first thing you must let go. But of course wine isn't hard liquor which is way more calorie intensive. Back then I worked in a six oz glass of wine with some dinners but at my current doctor's recommendation I've just stopped drinking any form of alcohol. I drank so little anyway that it wasn't hard to do.

I use My Fitness Pal to log my calories (every day for the last 166 days) and Chinese dishes will give you a wide selection of numbers to choose from.

It isn't my favorite Chinese Restaurant but Panda Express at least posts the calorie count for all its dishes which I appreciate.

Mark - I set myself a goal in October of 2023 when my little world which was a very stressful job came to an end and SO had major surgery. Right now I am ahead of the game.
Slow loss to give skin and body time to adjust. Not to mention check book when I risk a look in my closet:). No deprivation. Been there. Slow modification of recipes which takes some playing around. Splurges are fine. This may sound corny - flossing and brushing after everything but seltzer water! The first three months were hit and miss until my clothes were getting loose. Three months later the ridiculously expensive plain shirt dress hanging out in the closet as my treat once it fits was rehomed with tags on.

SO joined me kind of involuntarily last summer as I do all cooking but grilling. Extra ready to eat fruit instead of cookies and more meat with his lunch as he started doing while working from home. Nibbles readily available but good ones. He is down a size and by Easter it will be two.

The difficulty is getting things worked out. He considers yoghurt rotten milk and cucumbers gross. I will not touch a steak or an orange. So we meet in the middle. Yesterday dinner was surveyed potatoes wedges (Love the oil sprayer!), grilled chicken, mushrooms sauteed in butter/parsley, butter lettuce wit dill/mustard vinagrette. Eating the rabbit food first with a shaving of parmesan. Wine on the patio as desert.

I ignore the scale. It gave me fits. Are my clothes getting too big? Are they too big?

I've been at this for right at 3 years now, about 30 pounds a year, so it's coming off pretty slow.
I think I'm getting impatient with myself. I should be at my goal by now, but I want the weight to stay off too.
One step at a time. It crept on pretty slow, too. 90 pounds! How is your body handling it?

Mark have you looked at the calorie breakdown?

My body is handling it great.
We've had to cut back on a lot of meds as My blood pressure was too low, my BG was lower than they wanted, and I'm no longer considered diabetic.
My knees don't hurt anymore, I can breathe, use a ladder without having to worry about the weight capacity, etc.
My cardiologist described my cholesterol as "perfect", and I feel 20 years younger than I did.
The weather is getting better, so I will get a lot more exercise, and I'm hoping that will give me the boost to get closer to my goal.
If I had known about intermittent fasting 10 years ago, I could have saved a lot of money and health.
I've started working with 10# weights, and that might help

You sound like SO:>) No more huffing and puffing.

I think you’re being wise. The goal shouldn’t be speed. You just need to adjust how you eat and become aware of the guidelines that work for you. With any luck when get to your goal you’ll be comfortable eating in a way that keeps you there.

When I started I had thought maybe 175 would be a good weight to be but when I got to 185 I felt good in my body and happy to wear a large size shirt again. My mantra in the beginning was “I want to feel light on my feet again”. But 175 was just a guess, I felt like walking was easy again before that number was reached. It is okay to change your goal unless there is a good reason not to.

Hmmm. I came here to read the May first weigh-ins and it's all so very quiet.
I'm still not back on track, but every new day is the first day of the rest of my life, right?
At least we can all expect some drastic climate-change heat this summer.
That usually tamps my appetite down a little bit.

My PCP has added Jardiance to my daily list of diabetes medications.

So far it has been doing a great job at lowering my blood sugar and has been helping to reduce my appetite.

The initial weight loss was mostly fluid but now I’m beginning to see some positive results.

The winter/holiday blubber is almost gone and I’m looking forward to reaching new lows this summer.

I disregard the scale. New shirt was too big yesterday. So cinni buns for breakfast and eating everything until I feel full.

Sorry if you've already answered this, but what schedule of intermittent fasting are you doing? I'm currently on 16/8, which is comfortable. There was a time I was doing 19/5, which only caused me to overeat in the window.

I'm finding calorie counting and intermittent fasting a bit exhausting, but trying to adjust slowly, less counting, more healthy choices and focus on the intermittent fasting. It's hard not to count, though; it gives me a sense of control that I'm scared to give up, though I've lost weight without counting calories before.

I'm struggling to get back on track, consistently, too. My calories keep creeping up for several days at a time. Nothing to do, though, but keep trying in whatever ways are going to work on any given day.

Good for you! Slow but steady wins this race for sure.

But I'm curious about surveyed potatoes. Recipe? Unfortunately my wife's low kidney function puts potatoes and tomatoes in the No Go zone for her.

Surveyed potatoes? I eat a lot of sweet potatoes. Peeled, cubed, salt/chilli powder/A bit of olive oil and about 12 minutes at 350F and an additional 5 minutes at 425F in the airfryer. Dill/horseradish/full fat yoghurt dip. It takes care of my need for sweets during the week.

I'm doing 18/6, I eat at noon and nothing after 6:00pm
That's about all I can handle right now, but it's sustainable, something I can do forever, so hopefully, the weight I've lost will stay lost.

I weighed in at 228 this morning.
I've been in the 225-228 range for a couple weeks and trying not to bounce back to the 230s.
I've been trying to conquer my weight 5 pounds at a time.
Stay under 250, then under 245 consistently, then under 240, 235 and so on.
5 pounds at a time has worked for me.
Under 225 is my target now, then into the teens.

Small steps and not a crisis if it takes you an additional week. Keep it up or better down!
