Why I wouldn't want to be President of the U.S.

1 - You get blamed for everything going wrong.

2 - The Secret Service - I wouldn't want someone to have to risk his life for mine.

Anyone - add to this list!

Because of the mess that some other presidents left behind with their senseless wars and spending. Also having to work alongside others in government who care more about their party's agenda than the American people. It would be too frustrating, a thankless job for sure.

And SeaBreeze, your comments are exactly why I would like to see political party removed from our government one way or another. Those elected folks are supposed to be representing those folks that elected them to the Congress. They are not supposed to be drug around by any political party at all. Those political parties are not representing the electorate at all. They have their very own ideas of right and wrong, for them for sure.

Right now it appears that the Democrats only represent about 30% of the voters and the Republican a tad bit short of that. The unaffiliated of 40% of the voters are the real voters for the US. With no party loyalties they can vote for their heart felt ideas and that is the way our government is supposed to operate. Even those that do belong to a party can, and should, vote as they please and not as the party tells them to do.

I don't know how may of you folks remember the older style of ballots that got changed in maybe the 1950 time frame. Once the ballots had party boxes on them and all needed was to check a party box and walk out the door. Those were removed but then they started to put 'D' or 'R' beside each name. That too should be removed so that the voters would need to vote by names and not party.

Bob...so what is your answer to the original poster who asked the question about why you wouldn't want to be president of the US??

Why I wouldn't want to be President...
1.) In case of National Defense to send our sons and daughters to a war zone... and meet their caskets at Dover... would be more than I believe I could take.
2.) To know no matter how well you did your job, those campaigning to occupy the office at the next election would only concentrate on what had gone wrong... even if it was beyond your control.
3.) To know that anything and everything your wife, children, grandchildren, etc. do will be blasted across television screens. It's not only the POTUS that loses his privacy, but his entire family.

Why I would LIKE to be President....
1.) So I could cut off foreign aid to most all foreign countries until domestic hunger, homelessness, jobs, etc. were solved.
2.) So I could get free tickets to NFL games of my choice.
3.) I would know the retirement package would make life comfortable for my wife and children after I am gone.

Good points, Grumpy.

Add in: You'll have a target on your back wherever you go for at least four years. And I'm not talking harsh words - I'm talking bullets.

I guess in a way it is because we don't have free elections any more. They are run by a couple of meaningless political parties and not by the free elections of the people that they represent. I do not agree with the way our government has been so taken over by these outside groups that think they know all. But are really their very own idea of how the US should run, not the minds of the people debating in Congress and making decisions for the masses concerns.

My number one reason why I don't want to be president. Besides you being a target your family is too. Then think about how many assassination attempts there have been. Now with terrorism and even more guns out there, secret service or not you know somebody wants to try.

That's nice... BUT you still didn't answer the question.. Why wouldn't you want to be President?

And what is wrong with not wanting to work with a bunch of self centered egotist that don't like the way our Constitution says our country should be run?????

The Constitution says the people should vote their favorite to represent them and their area in the Congress. It does not say for any one or two or three political parties to be represented at all. That just destroys all the local ism that was set up by the Constitution. We really don't want outsiders telling us how to live at all. One reason we have kept religions from having any control over our rules and laws. Those are set up by independents, not directly aligned or controlled by any religion. Same should happen to the political clubs. No direct associations should be allowed there either.
