Forum member seriously injured

I'm turning a corner ..I hope...touch wood...

Yesterday I went most of the day without Painkillers..until the evning just before bed...

I'm still very sore, but it's more bearable now, and I don't want to be relying on the painkillers where it's not absolutely necessary... so today I've not yet taken any... and 1.30pm now.....

I cheered up because my New car arrived today. The salesman was so nice, young... but so helpful .. he did everything for me..including taxing the car for me.. this is a seperate thing we have to do in the UK annually, .. seperate from the purchase price or the insurance, and can only be done once the car is bought and paid for.. . and it has to be renewed every 12 months.. costs depend on the vehicle's C02 emissions.... It has to be done online.. mine cost £195, which is a low price.. compared to most other cars with higher emissions ... and usually the price goes up every year ..... so he did it all for me ...

Car still has the dealership paper mats on the floor in case you were wondering..

...and it has a manual transmission, very cool!

@hollydolly , I am jealous that you can get a brand new car that has a clutch in it. Lol. Clutches in this country are becoming rare. That is part of why I hang onto my 2003 Saturn sport coupe, it’s a five speed.

that said, I’m not sure I could drive on the wrong side of the road and shift gears with my left hand lol that would be something that would take me a lot of getting used to. I can use both hands pretty much the same but shifting gears is a whole different ball game🤠

i’m so glad that you’re feeling better and even more glad that you’re trying your best to fight staying off those painkillers.

I have seen what has happened when people get addicted to them. The therapeutic Farrier I had when one of my horses foundered so bad, ended up needing neck surgery. She started eating Schedule II painkillers like they were candy. She kept a bottle on her toolbox and would pop them like candy. They really changed her personality.

Holly, that car looks nice but it has a big defect. The steering wheel is on the wrong side. They should give you a discount.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm curious: since all this additional expense in your life is due to that other driver who was going full speed on the highway while practically blindfolded, isn't she responsible for paying it? Do you have to take her to court? Or does her insurance company repay you for all the expense she has incurred?

It's bad enough that she has caused you all that pain and suffering, and (temporarily) brought your life to a halt. But I don't see why any of the financial part should be on your shoulders. You were the victim, not the perpetrator.

Sunny... the insurance company have already paid me for my car..... ... now different underwriters for my old Insurance company are suing her for personal expenses, medical etc... and material losses...aside from the car . .apparently that side of it can take up to a year to be resolved... as I said before .. she's now denying responsibility for the accident despite lots of witnesses, and even her own admission at the scene...

The annoying thing is that even tho' the accident wasn't my fault and my Insurance company told me I wouldn't lose my full No claims discount ... when I went to Insure the new car with them, they tripled the quote over my last car, even tho' this new car has a smaller engine... I was shocked, because it looks like I was being penalised... so I had to do a search to find a new Insurer. who are well known.. and not some back street company... and I found one, probably the biggest car insurer in the country... and even tho' they got told about the accident etc.. they've insured me for just £100 more than I was paying for my old car and of course I kept my NCD

@Imogene ...it's not so much automatic cars per se they're pushing in this country.... what they're pushing like mad are ''electronic EV cars ''

Many people have automatics here.. but the vast majority prefer manuals because we have such narrow roads away from the motorways, hilly in many parts... and really a manual is a much better car for those road conditions.. and especially here where I live in the rural countryside where I drive on long windy country lanes some only wide enough for one car.. lots of mud in the winter... and of course the 6 miles through woodland to even get to a motorway.. so being in full control of a car rather than it being in control of you.. is a better drive in these parts

Very glad to hear that you feel you might be turning a corner!
Such a welcome and wonderful feeling, isn't it.

I hope it will continue, or will recur in very short intervals until increasingly frequently!

Nice uplift to get your new car and with the nice human interaction added in with that, added to your day. 😀

That steering wheel and pedals look all wrong Doll. ... :ROFLMAO: ...

She's denying what she said to three different people? Good grief! Are we supposed to carry around recording devices for situations like this?

I'm really interested in that hijab. If she was wearing that kind with just a little slit to look through, that sounds like an accident waiting to happen. In this country, a Congressional representative or Senator might be interested in getting a law passed. I guess your representative in Parliament might be interested as well.

The problem could be that "religion" gets into the picture, and people might start screaming, "Discrimination!" But as I said before, this should apply to any and all religions. If a person is driving while wearing a garment that restricts their vision, they are an accident waiting to happen.

P.S. Sounds like you are slowly but surely recovering. Glad to hear it! 💕

There is no way in this country that a law would be changed for the majority against the minorities..nope, not happening.. and if I were to even mention it I'd be in danger of being at the very least taken to task officially , for racial discriimination. This country has completely lost it's way where this is concerned.

I did do a little research of my own, and someone a few years ago in parliament tried to make it illegal for people to wear clothing regardless of their race or religion that might impede their driving.. and it was overruled ..but you can bet your bottom dollar, if it was someone white wearing a blanket over their head and they caused an accident.. they would be paying a high price..

I have had advice to ensure I have dashcams fitted to the new car, because unlike my accident which fortunately happened in daylight on the motorway with plenty witnesses.. if there's a next time it could be on a country lane with no witnesses.. so a dashcam front and rear would be the next best thing

What a situation. I wonder, what if it was a white person wearing the hijab? It's not really a racial issue, at least not everywhere. Muslims can be any race, and there are a few white people who have converted to that religion, maybe because of marriage, or who knows what?

Unfortunately, it will probably take a huge, multiple-vehicle smashup caused by someone wearing one of those things to get laws passed about driving while visually impaired.

Sorry about the tendonitis. I can relate (sort of). The tendonitis in one foot, which appeared out of the blue, kept me pretty much off my feet for a year and a half, when it finally started to heal. They said the arch in that foot had probably collapsed, and may have caused nerve damage. I don't know how arches, tendons, and nerves are connected, not being a doctor, but I do remember how painful it was. I could only get my foot into one kind of shoe (sturdy laced walking shoes), which I still wear every day, not wanting to take any chances. It finally went away, thank God. Physical therapy helped a lot.

Hope you're better today.

Hollydolly...you are one of my favorite people on this forum. I hope you continue to recover from your injuries. Hopefully in the long run, you will come out ok both physically and financially after this accident. Bless you and all you hold dear to you.

Wow! Hope you will be as good as new soon! Sorry to hear that you were injured.
Hope the doctors put you back together right.
You might want to have a friend take a permanent marker and write left leg or right arm so they know.
Hope my being silly is not inappropriate.
Hope you will be back with us soon!

Lol.. thanks for making me smile... fortunately the Plastic surgeons worked on the correct limb.... 👍

Glad you are doing better. Healing takes time and sometimes even therapy.
Thank you , you're very kind.🧡 they say I'm healing extraordinarily well.. all the medical staff are in awe at how well I'm healing after just a month... hopefully that will continue. I'm looking forward to the day when I can get out and drive my new car... 👍
