Holly---you might know I have someone once a week to do the house. Believe me, it has saved me. Try to find someone older and check references. Here the charge is 20 to 25 American dollars an hour. It is a lot but it has helped me feel so much better in taking control of the situation. And it won't be forever because as you heal you can take on things.

Try to relax as much as you can and remember you are always first in your own life. Take good care.

when my sister came home from having a hip replacement, she got in touch with her local council and asked about "Home Help". They put her in touch with a local place that comes to her place every fortnight and just does, mopping the floors and cleaning the bathrooms. I think she only
has to pay $25.00 per fortnight.

I can't get anybody for as little as that for one visit... unless I use someone who is not background checked ..

After my triple by-pass the hospital asked if I needed any help. I said no because I am so independent and waited 4 weeks before I started to do light duties. Okay, I didn't look at the dust around and I had great difficulty trying to make my double bed. I used to spread the sheet over the mattress and used a long stick to push the sheet under the mattress.
It Took me about half an hour just to make the bed. I poured bleach into the toilet and swished the water around with the toilet brush. I had the freezer stocked and used the microwave all the time. After 3 months I was ready for business and am so proud I did it myself. I must admit my sons came often to see if I was okay.

You have a right to be proud of yourself... you've been through a horrible time yourself, and come through it with courage and fortitude..

I'm as independent as you I think... altho' I wish I had 3 sons to check on me, lol...

Anyway that's my little limit at the moment...bleach in the toilet.. washing up which takes me ages to do even for a little few things... I have a long reach, grabber, to pick things up that have fallen

I'm desperate to change the sheets but I can't.. however I have managed to change the pillowcases..

Last night I actually polished the furniture in the livingroom. I have a long reach duster... but nothing has actually been polished for a while, so with my left hand I sprayed a little polish on each piece of furniture and then used the long reach micro duster to polish with my left hand , it took a while because altho' my left hand wasn't broken, it's badly bruised and swollen so, it's painful to hold anything for long.. ...but at least the place smells nice and there's no dust .....🥰

On Sunday my friend is coming over to wash my floors, and clean my bathrooms for me.. so I'm grateful for that... but she works full time, so I can't ask her to do it on a regular basis

the District nurse is due some time today.. they usually come in the morning.. it's almost 10.30am now, so I expect her soon

SO proud of you Holly. Guts and determination go a long way. At least you're having a crack not like some who sit and complain and wait for others to do the job." You GO girl".!!!

District nurse has been...The hand is not healing too well... still swollen like a balloon.. but at least no infection....

I've never had the same nurse twice and today was no exception..except this one was Romanian and really chatty.. unlike all the previous British ones.. who barely spoke... and very nice... (y)

Apparently I'll see her again, the others were only filling in for her while she was away...

My cleaning lady is a gem. She is the nicest, and probably the smartest person I've ever known. She proudly became an American citizen recently. She knows it's not exactly the best time in this country's history, but says it's still a lot better and safer than most other countries. She does as much or as little as I need when she and her sister come, every two weeks. She once even fixed my plumbing! (It was just a clogged drain.)I

I got lucky. She was recommended by several of my neighbors in this building. Everybody loves her. If you lived here, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to you.

Of course, none of this exactly helps you right now, except that maybe you could ask friends and neighbors who might use cleaning help for details and recommendations about their helpers? I think personal referrals are probably the best way to get help.

(I edited this to remove some details that might be too personal.)

You must be in a very low cost of living state because here it’s about 100/ hour.

yes I could, and I have been mulling it over. I don't particualrly want any of the so called '' irina, or Maria's '' who have been spamming the neighborhood app looking to clean houses....to come and clean my house... so the district nurse told me about a company... but I nearly fell off my chair at their prices.. ...so I'm still thinking about it...

Do you have neighbors who use trusted cleaners? It may be that someone already working nearby could fit in a few sessions for you.

No none of my neighbours have cleaners they all do their own..with the exception of my 90 year old neighbour who has a family member come a couple of times a week.. but she's not a cleaner she's just helping her elderly aunt ...

I pay a cleaner $100 once a month, I found her thru a friend, and she does a good job. But this is California, where everything costs a fortune.
well things don't come a lot more expensive than they are here in the Metropolis...London.... one of the most expensive places in the world , apparently 4th most expensive place following on from New York City.. which is numero Uno

second is...

Hong Kong

3rd...

Geneva Switzerland... ....then 4th most expensive is London....

I pay her $90 every two weeks. I think she's worth more than that. It only takes them about 1 1/2 hours to thoroughly clean my little condo, and they split it two ways, so they're not really making that much. All the neighbors here are paying about that amount, though many of the apartments are larger, so they pay more. And she does different kinds of work for different people.

I had a maid/cleaning lady in Turkey who came two days a week for six hours each week.

And for that, I paid the munificent sum of $2 and two eggs, plus all my empty American-goods cans (which i opened from the bottom so that they looked good when she showed them off to her neighbors) and bottles and boxes, some of which she sold st the local bazaar.

Campbell soups were very popular. I gave her a couple of unopened ones for a bonus at Ramadan.

She cleaned the apartment, did the dishes, washed the clothes in the bathtub (and in the old Maytag wringer washer when I bought one.....she thought she had died and gone to the Garden of Allah).

I've never had a cleaning lady since. I'd sure like one.

One of my friends in Spain a tv personality had a fantastic cleaner.. she did everything.. changed the beds.. washed the dishes.. cleaned everything in sight .. she worked for £12 euros an hour.. and my friend would give her clothes and shoes she didn't want any more....
