Forum member seriously injured

Holly, how awful about the back spasms. Was that a problem you had before, or was your back injured in the accident?
No sunny, I've had lower lumbar problems for many years.. but they've been pretty much kept in check for the last few years as long as I don't do anything that causes pain, like standing for a long time, or lifting anyything very heavy., or sleeping on my front etc..... but this spasmodic pain is like late stage Labour pains to give you an idea what it feels like.

It's from the same area around my ribs and lower lumbar region which were internally and externally bruised.. ..

They're so regular that this is why Ive come to call them Late stage labour pains.. they literally shoot me out of the chair approx every 15 minutes...

Up to now I have no idea where this woman lives... or even how old she is.. I couldn't tell becase she was wearing a Hijab.niqab...so everythig was covered including her eyes because she wore glasses...

similar to this but in brown

Hi hollydolly: Glad to hear you are slowly on the mend. I did get a shock when I saw the photo of your damaged car., you were so luck to survive. With regards to that photo of the Hijab, I don't know how they can actually see the roads on either side and wearing sunglasses
is an invitation to an accident. Where I live there are so many women wearing them and I often wonder how their children know which is their mother when there is a group of them standing together.?? Take care and keep us up to date with your health details and get plenty of rest and good food.

I was anticipating you getting plastic surgery soon HollyDolly and their use with the surgery..

It may be possible your spinal back suffered a side impact injury during the roll overs. Maybe a disc / s -- has slipped or herniated.
Do you have a good Chiropractor Doll? I sprained my lower back once having a Lawn Tractor back flip over. 3 months treatments.

PT, I already had plastic surgery the early hours of the morning of the next day of the accident, while I was in what they called A&E ( accident and emergency ) Resus (resusitation).. which is the most critical part of the hospital .... they performed the plastic surgery at 2am... 2 female plastic surgeons...I remember one was called Fatima...

I had a follow up appointment last thursday at the Plastic surgery dept at the hospital.. and they want me to have an ultra sound scan on the hand and arm again, trouble is there's a 6 week wait for appts..

I don't know what's causing the spasm because my existing herniated discs are at the base of my spine..these spasms are actually in my back, but more to the right, like under my ribcage

Ok, those ribs in your back are causing it most likely. Unhappy and not wanting to expand.
Maybe a good muscle relaxer will help you.

Tens is most likely a great choice; they stick on with a battery and sooth hot nerves.

NO!! I don't have any of those symptoms....The methocarbamol is an anti-spasmodic ..it's just not working very well on me

Think its Brand name here is Robaxin. Most likely you need another relaxer?

Tens are physical therapy helpers & can really cut your costs

I remember my Physical therapy quite well over 30 years ago. Get up, get dressed, call cab, walk out to Cab. Get out of Cab, Walk into
Physical theropy 2 x a week. Hot pad on leg, Tens on knee, work the knee machine for 15 minutes, walk back to Cab. Walk into the house.
Repeat. $80 a week back then. 3 months of that. I worked nights then, so it works for me. Off days the Chiro fixed me 2 x a week. He
had this great rolation table, I got to setting it as high as it will go. He just shook his head when he checked on me. I been lucky.
I thank the lord every day. Don't ask for anything but pray I may do what I need to do.

At one time in my life, when I was much younger, I went through a period of back pain. I have no idea what caused it, I probably just pulled a muscle or something like that. It was nowhere near as bad as what you are describing.

I managed to cure it, purely by accident. We went on a summer vacation to Martha's Vineyard, a popular Massachusetts resort with a lovely sandy beach. I lay down (facing up) on the sand, and it felt so good! I stayed there for about 1/2 hour, and got up with my back feeling much better, after several months of pain. We returned to that beach every day for about a week, and I went home cured! Something about the warm sand pressing against my back must have done it. I know this sounds wacko, but it worked.

Not sure how near you are to a beach, and it probably wouldn't be allowed anyway because of the injury to your hand. But when that gets healed, if your back is still giving you grief, you might give it a try. (I know where the beaches are in Cornwall, but don't know how near the closest one is to London.)

That hot sand pushed your back alignment right into the spot. I once watched Mr. Bean. Lol

Geez @hollydolly your spasm issues sound so painful. It sounds like anything can trigger them which would make me crazy to try and do anything if I were in a similar position. I honestly hope after all of this is behind you that you go all out and do something wonderful for yourself.

Like @Imogene, I use natural products when I can on me & my critters. Sometimes old cures still work the best, too. Scripts may not always be effective, but a natural product/supplement will.

Luckily, my GP is open minded & doesn't have heart burn with these things. Even if she did, I'd use it anyway if I'm having the right results.

You have good judgement on whether or not it's working for you.

Hang in there, Holly!

Holly Dolly, I have had back spasms off and on for 20 years after some car accidents and I know exactly what you’re talking about as they are extremely painful. Once I had them constantly and had to go to the emergency room to be given drugs to stop them.

I can’t even imagine having them on top of all the other injuries that you are experiencing now. I have taken the muscle relaxers that you are taking, and they worked well for me. But that doesn’t mean anything because all of our body chemistry is different. I hope they’re willing to prescribe you something else. I wish you continued healing and I’m glad that you’re back on the forum posting as it’s good for you and all of us.

I take magnesium MALATE to help control sciatica. It is also supposed to help back spasms.

There are a handful of different magnesiums, with MALATE being at the top of the list for bioavailability.

Magnesium glycinate is also good.

Success is also dependent on how each person reacts to the product. Thankfully both of these help me but they may not be of help to the next person.

I have never found magnesium oxide to be useful - not even for my horses.

I take Mag Glycinate every day as part of my Vitamin supplement routine...

Sorry TT.. that you've experienced this at some level as well.... horrible experience for you...

The GP's in the UK are desperate not to prescribe Valium ( Diazepam)... which is a great muscle relaxant.. and they will do almost anything to avoid prescribing it. When they do they give Baby dosages , and for the shortest time...and comes with Dire warnings about addiction

I manged to get my GP to prescribe Valium for me, and she did.. but only 2mg and only for 28 days .... so I'm taking 3 of those at night, along with the methocarbamol to allow me a few hours sleep... . It only lasts for about 4 hours, but at least it helps a little

If I wasn't a law abiding citizen, I'm sure I could walk out onto the street and buy Valium in a much stronger dosage .. it's all nuts !

we dn't have out of pocket costs here for our medical needs unless we choose to go to a specialist....

Many years ago when the discs first herniated in my back.. I was sent to the hospital physiotherpist.. 15 minutes of doing very little, every few weeks.. did nothing.. absolutely nothing to help my back. They then lent me a Tens Machine to use at home.. didn't do a thing for me.. didn't work at all on my pain....

Eventually I had to have Cortisone injections in my back... that was the only thing that worked !

Now I've had the maximum injections they will give because eventually they don't work.. and the result is that it makes the injured site worse...
