How neat are you?

I truly hated dusting/ vacuuming when I live at my small 1 bdrm apt,it seemed every week I had to do so
Since moving here to Canterbury Woods, I don't have to worry , housekeeping takes care of it every Mon
I've made my bed every day for yrs,I empty the waste paper baskets a couple times /week take my other trash bagged up to the trash area down the hall
I basically a neat person

How neat are you?

When I was working, some might have called my place a "sty", and they wouldn't have been that far off. Since I got retired, I've cleaned up my act and my place. I even make the bed everyday. šŸ™‚
How neat are you?

Love this. I am not NATURALLY neat. Which means I have to work hard at being neat. Naturally, I'm messy. Like a lawyers desk messy.

When I was living alone, I had two dinner plates, one set of cutlery, one mug, and one glass. Why? Mess. It forced me to wash up, to keep things clean. I need that sort of incentive. Since my wife has returned, I'm regressed terribly.

I used to be so, so particular about our house and organization in the past. Long story short, I haven't been the same since our Autistic son escaped his so-called safe care facility on foot and was hit and run on a freeway. He survived but ever since then (6/6/22), I could give a crap about how my house looks and unfortunately, I don't care how it looks now. Just can't get motivated to make it look better. Someone mentioned no visitors so no personal worries. Well, me too.

I'm pretty neat. I like things clean and organized and like @MACKTEXAS. My own bathroom is always clean, but things I use on a daily basis could be more organized. The second bathroom is rarely used, so it's always available for visitors.

I found that I wasted a lot of valuable time talking on the phone. So now I dust while talking or windex glass items.

I won't ask guests to remove their shoes, but if it's snowy, salted or wet outside I will offer bootie shoe covers. I take off my shoes when I come in, and have a pair of slippers just inside the door.

I make the bed MOST days. If for some reason I don't, the bedroom door is closed.

I guess that's why my favorite character on Peanuts is pigpen...šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

I mean I like everything neat and orderly, I just don't like to put in the work! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Since I downsized to a small apartment, I have an area for each facet of my life. I have my little office space, reading, nook, etc. Sometimes it can look cluttered, especially with books, but I know where everything is. When the cleaning lady moves something, I go ballistic trying to find it.

So, not especially neat, but very clean for sure.

We have a place for most everything. If I need scotch tape, I know where it should be. If it’s not, I am usually the one that reminds my wife to put it back where it belongs, so if I go for it, it will be there.
My DH is always asking me where things are outside of his bedroom. But then I have to ask myself... if I get it does that mean he hopes I will use it? Fell for that a few times, now I just tell him.

My wife will move things and never tell me where she moved it so I have to go on a search for whatever she moved. I told her before
ā€œI don’t like playing hide and seek with items I need. When you move something, please tell me.ā€ I think that went in one ear and out the other.

I’m very neat and tidy. So is Ron.

That old adage ā€œa place for everything, and everything in its placeā€ is me to a T.

I hate clutter, so all surfaces are free of it. So are closets, cupboards and drawers. Open any of them and things will be organized and neat.

Neither Ron nor I are obsessive about cleaning and dusting, but we do like things clean, so we dust, mop, vacuum once a week or so.

I like to decorate, so the house has decorative touches that are uniquely Ron and me and make it pleasant to look at, warm and comfortable to be in. Plants, art on the walls, framed photos, interesting decorative touches, soft throw pillows, snuggly throws.

Because I organize for a living, I am frequently asked how I learned to be so organized. I didn’t. I was born that way. Disorganization is disturbing to me, in my own home. I’m unable to relax with disorder around me. I don’t notice or am bothered by others’ disorganization or untidiness, unless I’m being paid to fix it! šŸ˜‰

I mentioned in some other thread that on the weekends I’ll take a half hour or so and go through a closet or draw or cupboard, throwing away or putting in the goodwill pile things that have outgrown their usefulness, or moving what doesn’t belong there to its rightful place.

Sometimes I’ll tackle a larger project too, like re-arranging cupboards or drawers, doing a closet purge etc.

I like my home, like the way It feels when I walk in after a hard day, like how I can relax in it without being annoyed by mess or clutter. We have guests from time to time, and they say nice things about feeling comfortable, able to relax, the house having a welcoming vibe. That makes me feel good.

Reading through this thread, is there two points here? Neatness and hygiene? Is it bordering on obsessiveness that we vacuum the entire house, stairs, landing and reception hall, included, every day except Sunday? Our bed is made daily and the bed linen, as in sheets, pillow cases and duvet cover, are replaced every week, with the soiled linen put in the laundry basket ready for washing.
We share the dusting, which we do weekly, but thoroughly and by thorough let me explain.

You see the railings on the staircase, they are known as bulustrades. Our hall, stairs and landing have a total of eighty of them. They all get dusted, cleaned and polished, thoroughly, every week like the rest of the surfaces throughout the house. The agents selling our home complimented us, they said that the place looks bright and pleasing and it smells so pleasantly fresh. You can see our home on the Show Us Your House or a Little Corner in Your Home thread. Neat or obsessive, what's your opinion?

I like things to be in their place, otherwise I spend too much time looking for it. I leave stuff all cattywampus while working on a project but as soon as it's over I put things back where they belong and clean up my mess.

I don't spend as much time cleaning as I used to, but with me being the only one here it doesn't get very dirty. I have relaxed my standards some but as my mom used to say, my house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy.
