The Final End Approaches!

From the womb into this life, and from the close of this life into the next, each passage a quiet beginning, each ending a doorway to something more.
From the stuff of stars to the atom, from meteor ash to dust, we're here then we're gone like a fart in the wind.
"We are made of star-stuff." --Carl Sagan
"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." --Book of Common Prayer

I'm 91 years old and my own ending is approaching. Only 1 out of 8,000 lives to age 100. Thus, at 91 I'm getting close to my own ending. Medicine has never been able to find a Fountain of Youth so I must simply ACCEPT the coming end for me.
That number doesn't seem right to me Mitch. My neighbor lived to 102, my aunt lived to 101, I have several neighbors and friends in their late 90's. There are men in our local military honor guard as old as 97, still doing the funeral services.

AI says:
  • "Survival to 100: Only about 6.9% of women alive at 90 are expected to reach 100, with that probability being roughly half for men."
So to me that says you have a 4 in 100 chance of making it to age 100, not 1 in 8000. That number you're using probably starts at birth and includes everything from childhood diseases to wars. You need to start your chances at age 90. considering that you have already made it past all those perils and proven yourself as careful and healthy person.

When I was very young like 2 1/2 to 3 feet young, my family and grand parents took me to a birthday party for a woman who was 100 years old. I have no idea who she was or what our connection to her was. She may have been a friend of some friends of my grand parents. I don't think there was a direct family connection. It was held in a mansion of the early 1900's variety. Old and but very big and roomy. It may have been the woman's house.

She was in a wheel chair and making the rounds talking to everyone. She talked to me for quite awhile, and she was very alert and quite elegant. She was so gracious to me and so happy that I could come to her party. Of course being 2 1/2 feet tall and the youngest person there I suppose I must have seemed quite adorable to her. I didn't see any kids my age, or any other kids at all. I was probably the youngest person there. The party was huge, with people everywhere. I liked that lady. She was so warm and friendly. So being 100 can't be that bad.

Now I'm wondering (again) if this is a typo or deliberate spelling.
Exiting is technically correct but some may find it exciting too.

@George1959
Am I correct in guessing that English is not your first language?
You are completely right. Sometimes I'm looking for the right word, but don't just find it and in my case always errors occur.

I am German and my last English lessons at senior high school were in the late 1970s.

Btw. which word(s) could I use instead of exiting?

Depends on what you mean. Exciting is yaaaay aufregend and exiting is verlassend.

We once got a card from the family of a Dutch preacher who died. That was exciting. Yay! Dad went to heaven! Yippeee! Hahaha I was like: What on earth?

Hey, George,
You said:

For my wife and me will be what happens after our last breath the most exiting journey ever.

.. which might be more easily understood as:

For my wife and me, what happens after our last breath will be the most exciting journey ever.

The problem was the confusion between the words 'exiting' and 'exciting'. I so admire you, George, for having mastered a second language.
And you have mastered it.
It is something I could never do, and God knows I've tried
