United States and Israel attack Iran Early Saturday Morning

I saw on the news this morning that we have 2 aircraft carriers in the region, each cost $6.5 million per day to operate. So, $13 million per day for just those 2 ships.
Other than being in dry dock for repairs the daily cost while deployed would be the same no matter where the deployment was wouldn't it?

..understandable.. but in Messy's case we do know where she is because she's told us several times.... (y)
Today was the first day I didn't say Hup Holland Hup my country is so fabulous. I was once bragging to an American that my country is so social. I typed that in the train. Train was crammed, so I sat on the stairs. A guy had to get out, but I didn't pay attention, cause I was busy bragging how social we are. He stepped over my head and grumbled: Move it! You're in the way! The American said: Yes they're as social as rats LOL.

Gas at the pump just spiked about 50 cents a gallon around here. As I understand it it averages about a month from when crude comes out of the ground to where you pump it into your tank as gas. So the way it looks to me for the next month or so the oil companies are making an extra 50 cents a gallon for the oil that they paid pre war prices for.

We consume about 376 million gallons of gas per day here in the US. So that works out to a $188 million a day windfall for the oil companies for the next month. And that's just for starters. At 42 gallons per barrel oil the price of oil would have to go up $21 a barrel to warrant a 50 cent per gallon increase in gas prices. So far it's only gone up something like $8 a barrel.

So it looks to me like this war is giving the oil companies an excuse to gouge us at the pump.
Exactly! There is only one word for it: Greed!

Regarding panic. During the COVID-19 PLANdemic, German people hoarded toilet paper, French people bought red wine and condoms. No wonder that even the English speaking world knows the word angst from the Germans. It's the German angst, Germans fear everything, they even fear themselves.

In 2012 we bought a house that was only 1400 ft.² but it had electric baseboard heating. The first January we got a bill for $500 and we kept the heat at 68.

After that, we turned off the heat in the bedrooms during the day and only heated the rest of the house at 68. If we wanted to use one of the bedrooms during the day, since two of them were offices, we had space heaters that would warm up the room quickly with the door kept closed.

At 10 PM we turned off the heat in the rest of the house and set our bedroom at 68. it warmed up fairly quickly with the door closed.

When we got up in the morning, it was really cold in the main living area but never below 55. However, we were able to keep our electric bill at $160/month year round. I sold the house five years ago and I’m sure the prices are much higher now.

I often thought the buyer might’ve been shocked when they started to get their first electric bills because they would have no idea how we were keeping the price down so low.

In my Condo, we have central heating, AC and water systems that are boiler based. We don’t get individual bills and it’s in our HOA fees. However, I’ve been surprised at how reasonable it is when I reviewed the budget because I’m on the HOA board so the boilers must be fairly efficient. I do have a small electric bill for my condo which is basically my lights and the fan that runs the AC and heat.

Per Iran's constitution, a temporary Leadership Council will assume [or has now assumed] leadership duties and will govern Iran until the 88-member Assembly of Experts selects a new leader.

These are the members of the Council:

Masoud Pezeshkian - Critics have called his administration "moderate" [but] "incompetent" during crises.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei - Chief Justice of Iran, known as a ruthless enforcer of the Islamic Republic's laws, playing a central role in the suppression of political dissent, protests, and the enforcement of strict social policies. Appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah AliKhamenei.

Alireza Arafi - hardline Iranian cleric, appointed to the Interim Leadership Council following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei; staunch loyalist to Ali Khamenei's ideology.

There's always money to be made, when conducting a war. Manipulating World oil markets and commodity prices through tariffs is how it's done.

The first one could be (on best circumstances) a reasonable partner for negotiations, the other ones not.

But negotiations must follow actions by Iran, which demonstrate that they want peace.

The fuelshortage panic has started as i predicted it would , people are rushing to fill up at the petrol stations, before the prices shoot through the rooof... and this is the result already....

And so it starts.

Well Apparently according to people on the next door app.. garages around here have started already to increase prices at the pumps.. which is a diabolical liberty because prices have not risen yet.. ..so that's out and out greed..

You can see here from pictures posted.. that even this evening as it grew dark Costco still had constant lines of cars on the forecourt waiting to fill up... before the costs go through the roof, or we run out of supplies..either or.. and of course the panic buying creates it's own problems

US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) says it has received more than 200 complaints from service members across all branches of the armed forces, including the marines, air force, and space force.

One complainant, identified as a noncommissioned officer (NCO) in a unit that could be deployed “at any moment to join” operations against Iran, told MRFF in a complaint viewed by the Guardian that their commander had “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ”.
US troops were told war on Iran was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’, watchdog alleges

I seem to remember that same kind of thing being used to justify the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Do you see what everyone is getting now. If we did not do this, We would be getting it except with nuclear warhead.....ten or twenty an hour day after day. Of course we would nuke them but nuking in the sand means radioactivity in the air that travels around the world. Now or never.
It looks like you're trying to scare people with this rhetoric.
LOL Misinformed about what?
As I said I believe that you're misinformed about Iran's nuclear weapons capability, from you comment above you seem to believe they are ready and able to deploy nukes. I follow a commentator on Substack who was once part of the British SAS Operation Nimrod which cleared the Iranian Embassy in London, See his words below, I rate them as credible.
Iran is not directly threatening the USA or its financial interests in the middle east. Iran does have a long ongoing enmity with Israel, but one might would question whether defending Israel is a good reason to move a Carrier Group to threaten Iran. There is no evidence Iran’s nuclear fuel enrichment program has advanced recently and even if it had, it is still a long way from creating a nuclear device, testing it, reducing it, and placing it on a delivery system pointed at an enemy.

People get off....Trying to scare people.....It will be fine.....Bump in the road.
No kidding?

How many times have Iran said they would destroy America and Isreal. Death to America!

The problem is.. that not only does it mean a scarcity of petrol.. and oil for the customer at the pumps.. but it means higher prices in food...which no-one can really afford now as it is... and potentially big hikes to Electricity and gas ( heating).
Absolutely. My brokerage firm had a Market Volatility call today and invited customers to participate. One of their "experts" talked about how this event will affect the price of oil and energy, which could cause further inflation and a reduction in consumer spending. He added that China, Japan and European countries will be hardest hit because the US produces much of our own crude oil. It's not just oil. Anything that involves transportation (like groceries) will cause companies to raise their prices.

He also talked about how Iran only produces 3 million barrels of oil per day, but 20 million barrels are transported through the Strait of Hormuz. Apparently the US has announced insurance for ships traveling through that strait so hopefully that will ease some of the pressure. It's included in the article, which also contains pertinent information about Iran's military resources and their long-term view of the war. If it's 4-5 weeks I will be surprised because they are out for blood.

What are Iran’s weapons as it fights the US and Israel?

The senior clerics responsible for selecting Iran’s next supreme leader met on Tuesday to deliberate, and the son of the slain former leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, emerged as the clear front-runner, according to three Iranian officials familiar with the deliberations.

His name is Mojtaba Khamenei. If selected, he's probably not going to be receptive to negotiations with the U.S. since his son, wife, and mother were all killed in the air strikes that killed his father.
