United States and Israel attack Iran Early Saturday Morning

this is not about stopping Iran and a dubious uranium plant imo but more about Israel persuading the rest of the world to fight Iran on Israels side - helping buddies fight the evil Arabs ??? - my history book told me that Israel was given some land after the Ottomans lost it by the brits and proceeded to kick out all the existing Arabs who were living there peacefully farming? or market gardening? - this was all started by the brits and where are they now??

An Iranian warship has sunk off Sri Lanka following an apparent submarine attack that has left more than 100 sailors missing and 78 injured.

A major search and rescue operation is under way in the Indian Ocean today after IRIS Dena was hit by an 'explosion' around 25 miles south of the the island.

Sri Lankan politicians have refused to confirm what caused the warship to sink but a military source told Reuters that the ship was attacked by a submarine. The source did not say whose submarine was used in the attack.

Meanwhile Israel has vowed to assassinate Iran's next supreme leader as the country decides who will succeed Ayatollah Khamenei whose funeral has been postponed today.

Overnight Iranian drones attacked the US consulate in Dubai, causing it to catch fire, while a missile also struck America's largest military base in Qatar.

Meanwhile Saudi Arabia has confirmed its Ras Tanura oil refinery has been targeted in another attempted drone strike.

Both Sri Lanka's navy and air force said they would not release footage of the rescue because it involved the military of another state.

Police stepped up security outside the Galle hospital as the wounded Iranians were brought there by the local navy.

It comes days after The US military said it had struck Iran’s largest naval warship following the launch of Trump’s ‘Operation Epic Fury.’

France's president has joined Spain in condemning US and Israeli strikes on Iran, branding them illegal.

In a televised address on Tuesday evening, Emmanuel Macron declared the attacks were 'outside the bounds of international law.'

He is the second Western leader to question the legality of the conflict after Spain's Pedro Sanchez warned that strikes from the US and Israel risked bringing about a 'more uncertain and hostile international order.'

The French leader also said he had ordered his country's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and fleet to the Mediterranean and a frigate to Cyprus to ramp up military support in the region.

He added that Rafale fighter jets, air defence systems and airborne radar systems have been deployed over the Middle East.

Iran has showed off a sprawling underground network of tunnels filled with row after row of drones and rockets, amid fears the US and its allies are burning through expensive weaponry in their war against the regime.

Footage released by the Fars News Agency, which is closely linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, shows long lines of missiles and Shahed drones.

With a ticking clock playing in the background, the video used dramatic drone footage to show off the extent of their cheap arsenal.

One shot appeared to show a wall-to-wall hanging depicting the now-dead Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei looking out over the massive arsenal of drones.

A series of Iranian flags were seen hanging down from the roof of the tunnels.

Another showed a pair of lorries carrying Shahed drone launchers, each one holding four of the cheap drones.

Shahed drones cost just tens of thousands of dollars to produce, and take little time to manufacture.

As war continues to rage on, there are now fears that the sophisticated weaponry favoured by the US and its allies may be too expensive and too hard to procure for a longer military campaign.
Israel today admitted that Iran still has significant capacity to fire missiles at its enemies.

American-made Patriot missiles can cost between $4-5million (£3-3.75million), with export prices being even higher.

THAAD missile batteries, meanwhile, can cost around $13million (£9.74million) each.

Analysis carried out by Kirsty Grieco, a security expert at the Stimson Centre in Washington DC, found that the UAE had shot down 92 per cent of the missiles and drones Iran's slung its way.

Grieco estimates Iran spent in the region of $11million to $27million on the 541 drones it launched on the UAE, with interceptors averaging $500,000-$1.5million per drone to shoot down 506 of them.

The UAE's drone defence costs were between $253million and $759million, suggesting it spent up to 30 times more defending itself against Iran's drones than its adversary spent on attacking it.

I fear we are living through the outbreak of World War III - by British former senior Nato commander RICHARD SHIRREFF

.. as a former soldier I do not say this lightly

In June last year, the US President ordered a limited and targeted strike against three Iranian nuclear facilities. His aim was clear and realistic: to prevent the Ayatollahs from acquiring a nuclear bomb that could obliterate Israel and plunge the world into a war that could destroy civilisation.

After those attacks, he boasted that the mission had been a complete success and that Iran’s nuclear capability had been destroyed, writing online: ‘Monumental Damage was done to all Nuclear sites in Iran, as shown by satellite images. Obliteration is an accurate term!’

Clearly, that was an error . The President has now embarked on a new and far more perilous scheme of regime change in a vast, heavily armed country of 90million people – with no overarching strategy to bring it to an end. Unlike last June’s surgical strikes, there is a growing sense in the Western military community that the latest campaign has already spiralled out of control.

The ferocity of Iran’s response has shocked even hardened observers. As I write, Tehran has attacked, either directly or indirectly, at least 11 countries – including Israel, the United States (through its Kuwaiti embassy), the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Britain (through our base at Akrotiri in Cyprus), France (via the Camp de la Paix in the UAE) and Italy (through the Nato camp at Ali Al-Salem Base in Kuwait). French warships are crossing the Mediterranean to defend British troops in Cyprus.

And that’s just in a few days.

So are we living through – and as a lifelong soldier I do not ask this lightly – the outbreak of World War III? Certainly I cannot remember a more perilous moment in geopolitics in my lifetime – and I am now 70.
It seems obvious that if, as is all too likely, America gets sucked into a ground war in the Middle East – graveyard of countless military misadventures across the centuries – then China and Russia will waste no time taking advantage.

President Xi will seize the opportunity to launch his longed–for invasion of Taiwan, perhaps as soon as 2027. Trump has preferred to maintain America’s longstanding position of ‘strategic ambiguity’ towards the island: that is, not promising any military response if China invades, while simultaneously seeking to deter any such incursion.
But his predecessor Joe Biden might have been more honest when, once asked whether America would defend Taiwan, he replied simply: ‘Yes'.

Meanwhile, with Western attention focused on protecting allies in the Gulf as well as dealing with Iran’s response, and with American missiles and other equipment inevitably drawn away from the theatre in Ukraine, Putin would only double down on his four-year-old campaign to seize a sovereign European country. Notwithstanding the defenders’ bravery, he might finally achieve that terrible goal – and then launch an incursion into the Baltics.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have all been held by Russia at various times in their history, but are now Nato as well as EU members. Putin is 73 and widely suspected to be in poor health. He may feel he has one last opportunity to secure his place in history and restore the glories of the motherland by expanding its western frontiers.

Any such invasion, of course, would further destabilise the transatlantic alliance – already grossly weakened by Trump’s disgraceful threats to attack Greenland, an autonomous territory run by Nato ally Denmark. Would Trump – or any successor such as the isolationist current Vice-President JD Vance – risk American lives to defend Tallinn, as Nato’s Article 5 should compel them to? Who knows. But Britain, France and the other major European powers would surely feel duty-bound to step in.

For all these reasons and more, I fear that future historians will look back at this week’s reckless attempt at ‘regime change from the skies’ as the final catalyst for a third world war.

Now the fate of the world depends on how quickly America can extricate itself from the messy and dangerous situation unfolding in the Middle East. Add war in Europe and war in Asia to war in the Middle East and that’s World War Three in anyone’s book – but this time, all the major powers would go into the conflict possessing weapons that could kill billions.

The US and Israel launched these strikes to prevent nuclear proliferation. It would be the most terrible irony in history if that very action was the trigger for a nuclear war that destroyed civilisation as we know it.

Jeremiah 49

35 ‘Behold, I will break the [a]bow of Elam,
The foremost of their might.

38 I will set My throne in Elam,
And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord.

39 ‘But it shall come to pass in the latter days:
I will bring back the captives of Elam,’ says the Lord.”

Esther was in Susan, the former capital of Elam in the South West of Iran.

The 2nd and 3rd of March it was Purim.

America confirms it sunk Iranian warship off Sri Lanka in submarine attack

The Pentagon has shared footage of the moment an Iranian warship was blown up by an American submarine in the Indian Ocean.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth today boasted Iran's IRIS Dena ship suffered a 'quiet death' after it was torpedoed and sunk by an military submarine around 25 miles off Sri Lanka.

Authorities in Sri Lanka have confirmed at least 80 people have been killed with many more feared dead as footage shows the ship exploded upon being struck by a torpedo

Yesterday, in the Indian Ocean, an American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo - a quiet death. The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War Two,' he said.

Meanwhile an Iranian missile heading towards Turkey has been destroyed by NATO as violence from the US-Israel war with Iran spreads beyond the Middle East.

Israel has vowed to assassinate Iran's next supreme leader as the country decides who will succeed Ayatollah Khamenei whose funeral in Tehran has been postponed today amid new airstrikes in the capital.

Overnight Iranian drones attacked the US consulate in Dubai , causing it to catch fire, while a missile also struck America's largest military base in Qatar .

Here's my question. If their nuclear capabilities were supposedly crippled months ago (as was bragged about), why would they need to attack Iran again? They didn't get it right the first time? Or they lied about it? Regime change my a*s! @RambleTamble You're right about this: "You can't fool all the people all the time." Oh and the probability of "collateral damage" (even including our soldiers) was spoken about so casually that it burns me up.

Politically there are obvious reasons why someone only interested in their own survival and power might resort to unprovoked violence. But we aren’t to discuss that so I have nothing to say.

Were they already controlling the situation with intelligence operations before open warfare?

Have to wonder with some of these strikes/attacks they had very accurate information not so much as location but who would be there. That means they've probably have had spies imbedded pretty deep in the Iranian command structure. Why not leave them there and use them for additional intelligence for more surgical strikes in the future. Sort of like the devil you know.

They should've been used to flip or turn more Iranians and/or wait until they get THE moment, scandal or evidence that could kill their nuke program and gain more support. Now the replacement regime will have to be dealt with.

Or maybe they lost or don't have the intelligence they wanted and went into panic mode pushing a more comprehensive radical approach.

A top Iranian cleric has issued a fatwa calling for Muslims to avenge the 'blood of the martyr' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
106868145-15610027-image-a-110_1772640657980.jpg

Following the death of the Supreme Leader on Saturday, Iranian religious leader Nasser Makarem Shirazi delivered a formal religious decree that claimed all Muslims were obliged to avenge him.

Shirazi stated that the US and Israel were the 'main perpetrators of this crime.'

A fatwa is an Islamic ruling made by religious authorities or scholars whose followers are compelled to follow.

Experts have warned that the extreme proclamation means the world is more likely to see Iranian sleeper cells and lone wolves carry out horrific terror attacks at sites including embassies, restaurants and shops.

Ghaffar Hussain, a counter-terrorism expert, told the Daily Mail: 'Iran has a long history of exporting terrorism around the world and a track record of targeting dissidents and journalists in the UK.

'This is a very real threat that has been heightened since the outbreak of the war and the one the security services must remain vigilant to.'

In recent years, Iranian agents have been accused of attempting, and often succeeding, in carrying out bomb and assassination plots.

In 2018, France uncovered an alleged bomb plot that was set to be carried out at a Paris rally for Iranian opposition figures which was attended by 100,000 Iranians and hundreds of international dignitaries. That same year, Denmark accused Iranian intelligence of trying to assassinate an opposition figure on its soil.

British intelligence agencies are currently closely monitoring Iranian sleeper cells, amid fears of retaliation over the US-Israeli attacks.

Heinko Heinisch, a leading terror expert in Germany, said 'We know that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards maintains functioning networks in Europe, primarily consisting of embassies, consulates, and mosques under the control of the Iranian regime.'

He warned that the most vulnerable targets were 'soft' ones 'including companies, restaurants, or shops, that have a connection to Israel or are run by Jews.'

We've discussed this a few times in the past. New members arrive on the board all the time that, may not be familiar with past discussions about limits of political postings, a gray area, so will add the below again since the nature of this post could become rather political.

Out of 342 posts in this thread, there are now 11 using the US president's name. Some are within text of supporting links. In order to make this less political, as before, I'll suggest editing such posts, even text within links, to just use the first capitalized initial of any names that may have political implications. Although some posts use of such personal political names may not be political as used, it may tend to encourage the several members that have always grated against the political ban to do so and use full names as a weapon against what they don't like.

This post is in follow up to my post 123 (concerning the school bombing in Iran).

The following report can be found on NPR today:

"The bombing of an Iranian elementary school that killed some 165 people, many of them schoolgirls, included more targets near the school than has been initially reported, a review of commercial satellite imagery by NPR has found.

The images suggest that the school was hit on Saturday as part of a precision airstrike on a neighboring Iranian military complex — and that it may have been struck as a result of outdated targeting information.
"

Further down in the report:

"The images show "very precise targeting" Lewis told NPR. "Almost all the buildings [in the compound] are hit."

@Della - yes these investigations take time. Any video that showed it was an Iranian missle that "flopped and fell back down" does not align with more recent findings.

Iran will lose.

Feels like WWIII already - perhaps we can't recognize it in a different gown?? - [hello dear are you going to the great big cock up ball tonight??]
I don't think there are enough countries affected or interested, but I do consider the senarios of Russia and China standing by to take on the US if this war weakens us enough. As far as world wars, I think Russia is a bigger threat, but after Ukraine is finished, Russia will have drained it's resources and will need a nap.

But I think the war with Iran is going to be a blood bath. If it remains between the three participants, Iran will lose the most. This is not like the Superbowl, where the winning team and it's fans cheer and get drunk, and the losing team is sad and gets drunk. There's going to be a lot of broken bones and economic turmoil, enough to go around for everyone.

The world has gone mad. The US is no longer an ally to the West. Trust has been fractured. If MAGA means anything, then Americans should rejoice. In the wider picture, a lot of damage is being done, and decades of diplomacy is being torn asunder.

In Iran, at the time of writing, more than 700 civilians have been killed on this operation. It has cost the US tax payer $31bn thus far. So, in (very) rough terms, $44m for every death.

The rest of the world does, indeed, need to start paying for its only defense. At the same time, sadly, the US needs to be considered as just another self-interested adversary.
