Been in the hospital.....

A week ago Saturday morning,I woke up horribly nauseous with a blinding headache. Finally,by 11 AM,Wes convinced me to let him take me to the ER. All tests were coming back fine so doc asked if I thought he should do a lumbar puncture. I had meningitis 15 years ago so he thought I might know better than anyone if it was that again. So I said fine and he did it. He thought the fluid looked fine, but it turned out to be Bacterial Meningitis. I was in the hospital until Thursday night-now I am home with a PIC line that I can infuse the meds into myself twice a day. So much better than being hospitalized for another week! I`m feeling pretty good-well enough to go out both Friday and Sat. night lol. Of course,I ended paying for that foolishness and slept most of yesterday

Still have a mild headache but nothing like before. Now I have to find out why. It`s extremely rare to ever get bacterial Meningitis in one`s lifetime-almost unheard of to get it twice. Unless you are an IV drug user(which now I am lol). Doc thinks it may be from this tooth that has been bothering me-neither my dentistor the Endodontist she sent me to can figure out what`s wrong with it,so we just keep babying it along. It was bothering me last week though so he thinks that`s what caused this.

Oh goodness, I am glad you are on the mend. Blessings to you for a speedy recovery and good health Mrs. Robinson.

So sorry to hear about your illness. Thankfully you did go to the ER. Take it slow....allow yourself to fully recuperate.

That sounds serious .. glad you did not ignore the headache, and got treatment. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.

Very sorry to hear that Mrs.R, hope you feel better and maybe can take care of that tooth if it's related.

Sorry to hear that Mrs. R Could be that darned tooth causing the trouble. Sometimes the infection from
a tooth can spread (Thru circulation) to other parts of your body. It might have to be extracted.

I hope not but keep your eye on it.

That is a classic example of good news and bad news. Meningitis is very serious but it is great that you were onto it so quickly. I'm so pleased to hear that you are recovering. Take it easy and give your body all the rest that it needs.

Thanks everybody! I never get sick-haven`t had a cold in 46 years or a flu in 43. But I sure seem to save it up for the big ones. The only illnesses I have had have been in the last 15 years-Meningitis, Shingles,Breast cancer, Infections from that surgery, and now Meningitis again. How lucky can one person be?

Mrs. R., so sorry you are having to deal with this, but glad you are better. Could drugs you area taking for the breast cancer be lowering your immunity and giving something like this to get a foothold? When my niece was ill, that was one of the things they warned her about -- that radiation and the CA drugs would lower her immunity to "opportunistic" infections.

That seems possible. I have been battling this tooth thing for 6 years. Nothing has been done because nobody can agree that there`s anything wrong with it. And it only acts up occasionally and then it`s just a mild infection that Amoxicillin takes care of. But yes, afraid I could end up just having it extracted. It has a crown already-only one I have. And it`s a molar so not a big deal aesthetically.

So sorry for what you went through and glad to know you are improving... sending you lots of healing love. Take good care!! :love_heart:

I had a tooth that, unbeknownst to me, was infected. Every now and then, I would get a fever, and a tiny throat ache. My doctor gave me Amoxicillin twice, but after the second time, she advised I get my teeth checked. I did have a dental x-ray and had to have it removed. I'm sure you don't want an extraction for no reason at all, but may want it checked out again.

Wow that is scary. I'm glad you are home.

It's also nice to hear you can do your medications at home. Seems they like to send people to nursing homes just for IV therapy and essentially trap them there for the duration.
