I'm afraid you've already posted something I was going to refer to, although I was going to be derogatory about the comment (as too cynical).
Old mates of my father used to say something similar many years ago in the local bar (or maybe they weren't really his mates).
As far as I'm concerned I was certainly very naïve in my teenage years and beyond (as "green as grass" you could say

). I hope I've learned a few things since then, and feel I've been lucky in having a few excellent bosses who tried to give me good advice (one described his role as "shining dull pennies" and I was a pretty dull student he did his best to help shine a little).
So, am I the same person, - I'm sorry to say I can only give you a "yes and no" response.
No in that I have maybe learnt to be more self reliant, and have a bit more inner confidence (if you think you're smarter than I then maybe you are, but I'm able to weigh your faults up too, like those who are "a bit too cocky" and essentially massaging their own egos all the time).
And yes I am the same person in that I do still try to hope for the best, and have good intentions I believe (my late mother said that about me too I've discovered since she died).
