Nasty people on internet

I don't get it. What the heck is happening to people ? It seems like every time I turn on the evening news I hear about more people who have sent really nasty Twitter, Snapchat etc messages about others.

The people who send those nasty comments know that they are safe. They wouldn't have the guts to say such things to a person face-to-face. Seems cowardly to me.

What do you think ?

I think the same Ike. I am not going to say anything on the internet that I won't say in person. I don't say much on the net anyway.

None of it bothers me
With one exception
Being threatened
There needs to be some sorta long necked virtual vise grip that can reach thru the screen and grab the person by their tiny neck

It all usually ends up with a mention of an attorney

Who is this ‘J. Noble Daggett’?

I am seriously thinking of leaving another forum for this reason. It does wear on you when you see this nasty behavior all the time. It becomes a case of taking the good with the bad or just walking away.

As kids we made prank calls because the calls could not be traced. The internet forums are the same principal. Look at political forums on either side and you will see the nastiest of the nasty. I got on one left wing forum years ago and pretended to be a hard liner right winger and wow, you should how murderous people can get when it comes to politics. It was truly an eye opener.

I have my moments so I won't start throwing rocks.

I do find it odd that as adults we condemn children for bullying each other on social media and when we get a chance to set a good example we often miss the mark completely.

When I am reading Twitter I often 'like' arguments that I agree with but never reward anyone who uses foul language or makes personal attacks. On Facebook when my grandkids were younger I would chide them for bad language. It never happens now. We elders can still influence community standards if we choose to.

The sister of Dylan Roof, (the Charlestown mass murderer), Morgan Roof, has just posted a "snapchat" message to all of the students who walked out of school in protest about the selling of assault weapons that says, in part, "I hope all of you protesters are shot". This was immediately brought to the attention of the police. She was arrested at school for bringing a knife and pepper spray and marijuana on to the school grounds. God, is the whole family nuts ?

Yes, I agree. Our teenaged prank calls were harmless, however. I remember making a call to a store and asked, "Do you have Prince Albert (tobacco) in a can ? Yes ? Then let him out".

Today, people make every nasty remark imaginable on cell phones and on the internet. Everything from body shaming to vile racist comments. I can't imagine how hard it must be for todays teens to endure such bullying remarks. Teens, as we all know, are desperately struggling to fit in and be liked. No wonder the teen suicide rate is climbing.

Walk away, because this is toxic behavior you wouldn't accept from people you know much less people you don't.

We've had people on this forum in the past who were horrendously toxic, most if not all forums get these people. Big and brave behind a keyboard and monitor...cowards in real life, because if you're nice and a decent person, they will smell it like wild dogs and attack. However, these people are weak individuals, they become bullies behind a monitor because they CAN , in real life they wouldn't dare say it to your face...for sure not mine, because they'd know once they met me exactly what they're up against...

if you can't put these people on 'ignore' and admin are not doing something about it on your other forum on behalf of those being bullied ..then walk away, you have that power.

Hence the reason political discussion is banned here. There's something about politics that brings out the animal in people.

I shouldn't say that, actually - animals have better manners.

I once had a group of Internet "tough guys" threaten to come to my house and beat me. They lived in England. :D

This is why I truly like this forum, Seabreeze must do an admirable job as I have seen little in the way of snide remarks which to me spells that members know what will not be tolerated.

On the other forum, the one full of keyboard courage seems to brag about getting away with slamming a few members, pm's keep flying about why she is not banned but in truth I see it as some forums think the key to a successful forum in to let someone "liven things up" as even the one mod keeps asking her to explain her remark but yet does zilch when there is no response.

I have been on forums for many years and can honestly say I have never, ever seen anything like this.

I was on a travel website several years ago and when this one man found out that I flew for United, he blamed me for the accident in Sioux City. I tried to explain to him that the plain crash landed due to a mechanical failure, but he ended up calling me every name in the book and some that I never heard before. (His brother was killed in that accident.)

He must have been band after that because I never read any more posts from him after that day. He even told me that he was going to trace my IP address and come to my home.

I just heard on the news that a guy in Maine, who was running for local office, posted on the www about the Parkland student survivors.
He had seen on the Tv some high-school girl , (who was calling for a ban on AR-15's) from Parkland and apparently he didn't like her. He proceeded to post something about "that ugly skin-headed lesbian".
Nearly every state politician in Maine, both Democrat and Republican, called him to task. Those other politician's, jointly, went public and asked for ANYONE to step forward to run in his place. They jumped on him so hard that the unfeeling idiot withdrew immediately.

IMO, the only way to deal with idiots who post such nasty stuff is to shun them. Perhaps then, people will learn.

It's because of the safety and anonymity of the internet. People can't be traced, or at least they believe they can't.

It's the same kind of thing as people acting mean and inconsiderate when they are driving. If they were walking into a building, and somebody else was trying to go through the door, would they be likely to cut them off, shouting obscenities at them? Most of the time, not. Yet, this is how people drive around here.
