Warrigal

SF VIP
As of today I am taking leave of the various forums that I belong to. I have grown weary of negativity and cynicism and have decided not to engage for at least 40 days and 40 nights. I am not angry at anyone, just very depleted and in need of some renewal.

I may drop in from time to time to see how anyone is getting on but I will try to maintain radio silence to avoid being sucked in to any discussions.

Please don't be concerned on my behalf because I am perfectly well. I need to focus more on the virtues of humanity as an antidote to the welt szmerz that threatens to engulf us.

thank-you.gif
to all, especially the moderators, and out.

Gonna miss you Warri. Hurry back. I understand your reasoning; TOO MUCH NEGATIVITY going around. Depressing !

It's good to see a person who knows when they need a break, some need one and don't take it. I am going to be taking a break, too. I totally understand what you mean.:sentimental: And to add to that there is a hater of me here so good riddance to whoever it is!

The main thing about negativity is not to internalize it. It doesn't change anything. Speak out and get other folks to gather with you. Otherwise, it stays the same!!!

Yesterday after volunteering at the playgroup I made a carrot cake and a pot of potato and leek soup. Today I woke up to some beautiful classical music playing on the bedside radio. Also today I was hostess to some men from our church, one of whom is a very recent widower. They yarned away and I served the cake and soup, with fresh bread rolls for lunch.

As you will gather I am filling my days with activities that refresh the spirit and I intend to keep doing this until June 30.
I think I will try some writing during this time.

I am currently reading posts but apart from this occasion, I am refraining from entering any discussions. I am taking a break from all four forums that I am actively engaged on.

If these activities make you happy why put an expiration date on them, take a little time each day to do the things that refresh your spirit.

Enjoy your day and keep us posted on how things are going in your corner of the world.

Perhaps you're choosing the wrong forums to hang out in. I can think of one that you belong to that has a lot of negativity and scary avatars...and it's not this one. Plus 4 is 4X the level of negativity.

I'm not saying you fall into this category (because I don't know) but...very rarely I see someone say they get bored here like Lon and Hal. There's a saying that goes "Bored people are boring". I get that. One has to be willing to learn, to teach, to share, give, take, and to be fully engaged within and outside themselves in order to fully enjoy the forum experience. If one is still bored...it's summer (except for aussies), plan a vacation. I hear summers are slow for all online forums.

On rare occasions I may see some negativity here in SF but it's almost zero since the political thread was closed. SF is very manageable but if you're visiting 4 then I can see the problem. Why does it have to be 4 or none? Why not pick the one you feel most comfortable in and just do that one? I only do one and am very happy and at peace here in SF.

Three yrs ago when I was still a AARP member,I gave up posting all during Lent I told a couple regular posters{in private messages} what I was doing. They were amazed/shocked I would do something like that,a couple thought I couldn't last
I will admit it was tough those first couple of days, I found other things to occupy my time, really didn't miss posting
When I returned they were all happy to see me back, but that was the beginning for me to end my posting there for good,it took me awhile to make that final step. The discussions really hadn't changed.
I do understand how Warrigal feels, but I find this site has a lot more interesting, sometimes funny discussions to reply to Sue

I do not understand the need to announce a leave of absence...just more drama. The whole thing sounds boring to me. Hope it works out for you, Warri

I have to agree with Meanderer with regards to "drama". "40 days and 40 nights"? I know you're reading this, warrigal, but I have to say that I won't miss your stated mission that I recently saw you post, "I'm trying to show America what the rest of the world thinks of them". Trust me, Americans know what the rest of the world thinks of us and it's not all bad...nor always correctly reported. Of course we aren't perfect, no country is. But we're a new country comparatively speaking with growing pains. Always look for the good in others. I hope you get that renewal you said you need.

Here,here...:encouragement:

Warri stated she took a sabbatical because she was tired and depleted. That is not the same as bored. As for being dramatic, that is not her style. She knew that some posters would worry if she dropped out of sight. I don’t understand why some posters seek to criticize her for airing her opinions on controversial subjects. If it is ok to critique Canadians, why not other countries as well?

I agree with Meanderer and also Lara.

The departure announcements (short term or permanent) are getting to be overly-dramatic and unnecessary. There's a whole wide world outside of SF.
