It needs to be mandatory that everyone post the state/province/country that they live in. We don't need your bank account information or credit card numbers, but it helps when folks ask questions that are climate/law/culture related.

"We don't need your bank account information or credit card numbers, - - - ".

Well we could make these facts optional - -in case some of us fall on hard times and need a little - -uhh - -financial lift, we'll know where to look.:emmersed:

Hahahahahahaha.

It would help to know what Country. I don't think I am going to hunt anybody down by knowing the Country!! I don't feel the need to find anybody on this board anyway! For what purpose?

Since I doubt that too many of us are using our real names, how could we be hunted down, anyway? Or am I being naive?

Suppose you could even PM someone or use the Reputation Comment and ask them where they are from? Just ask. Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Unfortunately most don't and then they ask for information about climate/laws/and cultural matters.

I think where a person is located has more relevance to a particular topic such as how you cite the topic of how is the weather, laws, and culture. If one doesn't want to reveal that, then don't participate on that thread.

I have no issue with giving my city and state, but beyond that, no. I did remove my birth date from my profile, though. That being said, I do not feel that on a site like this giving that information cannot and SHOULD not be mandatory. I mean, I could put anything, and who would know, unless someone on this site knew me in real life.

What do you married women do now that you've taken your husband's name ?

You might as well throw away your birth certificate. Right ?

If a women gets married and takes her husband's name, she'll still need to have her birth certificate to prove where she was born. And when she gets a married name, she will still have to prove where she was born and will have to have her birth certificate and marriage certificate to prove she's the same person as in her birth certificate. And if she gets divorced and takes back her maiden name, she will need the divorce documents to prove she is the same person as her married name and her birth certificate to prove she had that name to prove where she was born.

Best to keep the name she was born with.

Might be different outside Australia but here a woman can quite legally use her birth-certificate name at any stage of her life, single, married, married and divorced ten times !

If she chooses to adopt the use of a husbands name that's fine - but it has never been a legal 'must'.
She can revert to her given name at any time.
It remains forever her 'legal' name.

Taking a husbands name was a matter of tradition, not law.

It is exactly the same in the states. For that matter, other than for reasons of fraud, Americans can legally change their names with very little ado or fanfare.

 Hello StarSong. :welcome: to the forum. Glad you joined our group.

(Sorry about womens' names. I only know one married couple where the wife uses her OWN name (Good for her) rather than
her husband's name.

Guess we're neighbors kinda. I live in RPV down by the harbor.

Most women I know have taken their husbands' names if they married before age 40-ish. Older women who are well settled into careers tend to keep their maiden names.

Thanks for the welcome. I live in The Valley - the one that Frank and Moon Unit made internationally famous!
