Have you heard anything about the job? Yeah, I know the two weeks aren't up yet, but I'm dyin' here...check often to see if there's news. And...do you still want the job? Have you had any response to your dog walking/sitting efforts?

Inquiring minds: so I'm a nosy old lady! So shoot me:D

No, I haven't and thank you for asking GXP;) I have 3 places that are supposed to contact me, I called both of them yesterday. The one you are talking about, we are still waiting for Senior Services to contact me. When they do, then I call the guy at the Adult Foster Care, then I think he calls Senior Service. They other two places also sound very good, each one is a bit different. One is caring for one man in his own home over in Central Oregon, small amount of money per month. Another as a caretaker of property on the Oregon coast, no money, but everything supplied for me, beautiful home to watch over and a few chickens. That couple travels a lot through October so not perm. They have a connection with folks in town, 3 miles away, where I would probably get part-time work at their bakery, about 20 hours they said.

Nothing is written in stone yet darn it:) Believe me I want to know something too:) Not one, single response from my dog sitting fliers.

I don't mind you asking at all. Would you believe I forgot this post was even here, LOL! What a ding dong I can be;) Thank you again for asking, I so appreciate your thoughtfulness, not nosiness to me:) Denise

Oh duh, this is a new post you did, LOL!! NO wonder no one hires me, they see what a nut-job I am, LOL!! Not really though, normally very responsible;)

I ask because, yanno, sometimes there seems to be a connection of some sort with a particular board member...maybe it's because I've been all at sea a time or two and it always seemed to work out. Usually just when I was starting to feel anxious and desperate and didn't know what choice to make or even if there would be a choice! I'm pulling for you. Your prospects all sound like good possibilities. If the house/chicken-sitting:D one, does that mean you could only work during the time they're gone or that you could take the part-time job while house/chicken-sitting? And would there be a place for you stay when they're at home or would you have to find your own and only stay at their place when they're traveling? Questions, questions!

Repeat "chicken sitting" fast....LOL

Yes, I'd get to work all the time whether they are home or not, and I would have my own huge bedroom w/bath as their house is 4000 sq ft, lots of room for me. She also is interested in my clerical skills to help her with their paperwork, so there is that too. Maybe something that they would want me around year round;) Guees we'll have to wait and see. I do love the Oregon Coast so that is a big plus with that job;)

Thanks for asking GeorgiaXPlant, I also wanted more details from Denise about her job prospects. Another one here pulling for Nwlady! :yougogirl:

Thanks you guys, it's hard to keep lookin up but GeorgiaXplant said something that has always been true in my life and that is when it feels like I am circling that drain the final time, something opens up. Since I didn't get the calls I was told I would get today, I will be calling them tomorrow. I know people get busy, and usually they thank me for calling them. I'll keep you posted, or post again tomorrow when I know more. Hopefully I will have something to post, lol, Denise

Something will strike, Denise. And best of luck with it. You've made a sincere effort and it will pay off.

One of our neighbours, a retired police officer, looks after people's dogs while they are away, etc. She charges £30 a day per dog, but never has more than two at a time. She seems to be kept busy, so people must think she does a good job.

Hope you hear something soon nwlady.. usually when one door closes another opens ,
when you least expect it.. thinking of you and I wondered too but I didn`t want to appear too
nosey either , so am happy someone else asked the question I only add a bit to it .. lol .
sometimes it takes a while ...

I would love this type of work the best. I decided I would put out another 40 or so fliers, as many as I can afford to make, in the area that is a bit further from my place. I have blanketed about 100 homes within a 3 mile radius so far;) Thanks Justme. Denise

It used to be so easy to pick up work, anywhere I was. Not so now, I've been unemployed since last Spring. I know much of the world is in the same boat. I know something will happen if I keep looking. It's out there, just like a needle in a haystack, lol:)

I hope it works out for you.:)

Thanks for the update. I was a bit lost on what was happening. Looks like some good prospects. Finding work is such work in and of itself. Hang in there.

But but but...I got all excited when I saw that you'd posted! I try to keep in mind the time difference and thought you posted to tell us that you made some phone calls. Drat. I'm as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Geez, you'd think that I'm the one looking for a job!

I spent the morning at Senior Service, and went to 3 dif. depts. to gather as much info as I can on what my future holds, if the worst, case scenario happens Georgia. To be honest, I was in an awful State of despair when I went into town this a.m. I have just gotten very discouraged with all the turn-downs where I did get to apply, and the lack of job "to" apply for.

Ok, the good news is, my SS will set me up very well, but it won't be arriving until Dec. 28. I can apply 3 months early so that I can draw practically the day I turn 62. I also have some excellent opportunity for senior housing in this area I didn't know existed. I found out a lot, and had some kind people talk to me. They were very kind, probably in hopes of not having to call in the "little people in white jackets" to cart me away.

That's all I know. The other thing is, I have but one job of the 3 "live-ins" still pending. The other two I didn't get. Neither decided to hire me for one reason or another. So there you have it. I'm done talking about it for awhile, well, except anything on this one thread.

My kind landlords are having dinner with me tonight (we are having pizza & Sprite) and going to just have a nice visit. They have Wii games and they are family, well, the family I have here in town. I had to call my sis from Senior Services because I had a slight melt-down. It had taken about 15 minutes to find a parkin space, ok, I don't mind walking, love it in fact. But stressed over getting in there to talk to someone. Then I was sent to 2 dif. places within, then when I got to the final place where they all thought was best for me (no, not the "funny farm") a big, blue sign on the door said back at 1pm, it was only 10ish. It's a huge, old hospital, huge. So there were these long dark halls and nobody, nobody around. So I sat down on the floor against the wall sobbing. That's when I called my sis, I just needed someone that I knew knows me and would listen. Well, while I was sobbing away about the end of my rope, about 6 or 7 ladies walked up, took the blue sign down and started walking in, I said are you the people that work here, duh:(

One lady said, yes, can I help you with something, duh. But they were way nice, 2 of them sort of took me in, and we sat in their office and I spilled my guts. Then, the laughter, then some good info, then home with new hope. These gals were my age too, what a blessing that was. The one name Kendra gave me a card of a lady named Julia that has beautiful apartments for seniors. Kendra has a friend that lives there, has an income of 650 a month ONLY. Imagine that! That is what mine will be with no extra work, worse case scenario. She said I can apply now, have things all ready for when Dec. comes around. Until then, I keep looking for work, and I will find something.

The senior housing sounds good Denise, don't give up hope on finding a job...you positive attitude will work for you! :love_heart:

Oh, my. Sometimes what it takes is a meltdown...except crying gives me a headache:( The senior housing sounds good. Do you have to be 62 to get one of those apartments? Here and also in Michigan where I lived before, residents only had to be 55. Rent was based on income...assuming that's the case where you are, too, so even with minimal income, that would be a good solution for housing.

Believe me, I understand your frustration. There were many days when I felt hopeless and helpless. It all worked out, but there were many days when I didn't think I'd ever see a light at the end of the tunnel.

You can do it. One foot in front of the other and all that. Sending good mojo and juju and stuff your way. And we're all pulling for you...you know that, right?
