2023 - How's the Weather Where You Are?

Happily, we're having us an early "January Thaw"! Except, there ain't no snow to thaw. Current temp (outside) is 4C, which translates to approxminantly 39.2 degrees F. That means it's almost WARM oot there! :)

Once again, it is unseasonably warm and a bit rainy today. Tomorrow promises to be warmer with more rain on the way. New Jersey seems to have moved south.

We've been getting warnings all day. Apparently a very severe (they say) is expected late this morning. We had a pretty bad one on New Years Eve that lasted a few hours. Their saying the one that hits tomorrow will be way worse and last about 10 days. There'll be lots of rain and blizzards, flooding, landslides, and fallen trees.

The NYE storm left a leaning leaning toward my house. It's about uprooted on one side. It's a very tall, old city tree, and a city crew guy taped it off with caution tape and said he'd be back with a full crew, but that didn't happen. I called the city 4 times and they just kept saying the crew would be out here shortly, they had a lot of tree issues going on. But this thing is hanging right over the whole front of my house. Plus part of my driveway, so I moved the car down the street.

Anyway, it's pretty likely we'll lose electricity for a while starting later today, and that could last for a week or so.

Stay warm and safe, all.

27 F and cloudy. More snow is predicted tomorrow. We are doing quite well on our snowpack this year, substantially above average and not much below record. If this keeps up we will have a good water year and begin to refill our almost empty reservoirs.

However last year we were above average at this point and it just stopped snowing, ended up well below by the end of the snow year. It could happen again, but I don't think it will.

Wow! We never get that much but 10 or 20 inches would be great. Our snow is also dryer, less moisture in an inch.
All my weather channels are saying there's a series of 4 or 5 major storms coming off the Pacific at the bay area. They're carrying a lot of water, like way more than usual, and what doesn't fall as rain in the valley will (of course) be dumped as snow in the mountains. They'll hit one after another, so this will be sustained rain and snow with some breaks in between. Plus, the initial storm will cause gusts up to 60 mph, they said. That's why I was so worried about that leaning tree out front. It's gone now.
