2023 - How's the Weather Where You Are?

Yeah we are in the first summer heat wave of 2023.

High today and yesterday were mid 90F's or about 15F above normal here beside San Francisco Bay. Inland, temps are all into 3 digits. Yesterday escaped by driving up to San Francisco north shore that just reached a pleasant 71F. Had a fun day, walking miles, eating too much food, driving home late afternoon.

But today stayed home, trying to minimize powering up whatever as my air conditioning has not run in over 2 decades. This morning was able to bring indoor downstairs temps down to 72F by open windows and doors at dawn. But now at 7pm temp is a reasonable 78F as marine air through the Golden Gate pushes inland from the Pacific Ocean.

I own an Ambient WS-10 weather system with 3 remote RF sensors. ($58 at amazon). The main unit with LCD displays that also has sensors, is downstairs. Have one remote outside my front door in shade, another at ceiling height in my stairway, and a third upstairs. Tomorrow forecast to just reach 85F with gradual cool down till Friday showing just a 71F high. In another couple hour will begin opening up windows.

Valley of California. Hot. Over 100 yesterday, more today. AC on 82-83. Walked at 0630 this morning after going over to feed the cats early. Feel bad for them. There is plenty of shade for them to find at least.

I feel so sorry for all animals that are outside in brutal heat, with no escape into cooler places.
Around here (Texas Coast) I see the squirrels and birds trying to stay close to the ground, and find hiding places behind bushes and A/C units, and any place low and a little cooler for them.

We're getting a break from the heat dome that entrapped us for most of June, but it may be coming back soon.

I know, I've heard of birds panting. There are people around here when I go walking that have fountains. I'm sure the birds take advantage. I've tried to put water on my patio railing but the birds have never found it. The blue jays do drink from the cats water at work. They also eat the dry food.

I put cat food out for the crows. They love it.
