2023 - How's the Weather Where You Are?

Rain coming down in sheets. Claps of thunder. Fire alarm sirens going off. The power surged twice - probably not doing my electronics any good. Had to wait for modem to re-boot.

It's been a stormy day here. Raining most of the day, but there was off and on thunder and some lightning for hours this morning. I don't think I've ever seen it like that... back to back storms for hours. And it was a deep, rolling thunder. I really hope they're out of the area by now.

After a cool, pleasant spring / early summer the season's heat has arrived.

The blessing of cool overnight temps and low humidity cannot be overstated. Daytime humidity in the mid 20s, nighttime in the low 50s (cool ocean air comes in).

We Finally got some rain late last night...a little over an inch. That's more than we got in the past month, and we're still in an "extreme drought". We may get some more Friday night, into Sat. morning...IF the forecasts are accurate, but I'm not believing it until it happens., It looks like a long hot and dry Summer for this area.

Here in the south central area of England, the heavens opened up, oh dear that doesn't bode well for tomorrow. For those not familiar with our folklore and legends, tomorrow, July 15th, is St. Swithun's Day. (800-863) Swithun was the pre-reformation Bishop of Winchester, he is renowned as a champion of the poor. His dying wish was to be buried among the poor, but the people so loved him that they gave him a grave inside his cathedral.

Legend has it that the weather then turned to rain, it persisted on and on. Forty days later his body was dug up and reburied amongst the poor, then the sun came out. So if it rains on St. Swithun's day we can expect much of the same for the next forty days.

Another round of severe storms last night. Some places around here even had a tornado watch. It was still raining when I woke up this morning, but don't know how long that had been going on. 0.7 inches (1.8 cm) in rain gauge. I had hoped the "cold front" would drop the temps and humidity, but it seem just a warm and muggy.

UPDATE SATURDAY 15 JULY 2023: Good news, after emergency phone calls, planned for Friday but the date was wrong. Afterwards, we decided to go to travelling agency, we'd been told had Railcards for sale. Oops no, but the salesperson was very useful, she gave us directions for bus and how to get to local station. We were able to get our form. The Railcard person on the phone didn't mention that we'd require two photos passport sized for our card. However, well get those this week locally and we'll be able to save money. Yes, we got soaked wearing raincoats lol, lol, lol. Rain stopped now!!!

Around 5pm we got a bucketing down that created mini rivers alongside the pavements and onto the roads. It lasted for almost 10 minutes. Then all stopped and started again for another 5 minutes.

Promising moderate rain for tomorrow and we need to travel to Central Station in order to pick up "Two Together" Railcard. It's the only place closest to us where you can buy at the counter. I don't want to buy online, not trusting safeties. Means won't be able to go outside station to get doughnuts before going back home blooming rain lol!
