A flower a day ...

One plant I haven't had in my own garden for years has the widest variety of flower form of any plant I can think of, the Dahlia. Flowers come in nearly every color imaginable though I can't recall seeing a blue one.

I don't grow them because the foliage is so forgettable but when I'm around the flowers it is hard to keep my camera in my pocket. Here are some I've photographed over the years, most while visiting the Mendocino Coast Bot garden.

@MarkD im pretty sure the photo above grows wild in Western Australia, Mulla Mulla- Pink Seeds | The Seed Collection

Western Australia is known for its wildflowers in Spring , we traveled to WA after selling our home in the city in 2004
the flowers growing in the wild are stunning they have circular floral wreath that mainly grows near cemeteries I’m yet to see

we’ve got photos of it but I’ve been so busy with visitors / making jam/ preserving / drying apricots I’ve been flat out and haven’t even looked for the Sturt pea photos as yet ..

I haven’t got many flowers in my garden at this time of the year being quite warm / hot

My begonias are just starting to flower

Begonias are something of an obsession with me, though not so much for their flowers as for their foliage which counts for more with me anyway.

Same here @MarkD i usually snip the flowers off with my finger and thumb cause it’s the foliage I’m interested in
The begonia in the first photo has leaves / foliage 14 inches long …its about 8 foot high so it’s going to get the top cut soon ( I’ve had the put a wire Veggie cage around it to keep it upright

Haven't done that but I can see the appeal. My 'Paul Hernandez' and B. luxuriens get about 8 feet high too.

This is quite attractive begonia . @MarkD

I've never had a flower on it

The small green plants on right in blue tub are cream Clivias I’ve grown from seeds , the local garden centre showed me a
plant from a cream clivia seed and it’s flower was a pretty green / white colour

You know, leaves deserve a thread of their own. I started a group on Flickr called Fabulous Foliage. It is still going though I don't moderate it or participate in anything there any more. If I start a thread for them here would you be interested?
