A flower a day ...

I've been distracted in RL and online. Here is a photo taken of Mimetes cucullautus at the Santa Cruz Arboretum about 14 years ago.

Seriously, I'm going to order this one, it's stunning.

I actually have several hundred of these that I've planted (divided & spread) over the last 25 years.

I got the first ones from my Dad. It was one of his favorites, and mine, too. When I looked them up, I found that they were called "Easter Parade gladiolus".

I put my order in, can't wait to see them bloom.

Sadly I haven't had any flowers to take photos of ..

.. yet. Your day is coming. But here we are well into the late winter garden wake up. I suspect your season starts at the end of your winter too, after the rains begin?

I forget what it is called but this is in bloom now.

It grows in a pot that sits on a faux mantle at the back of the little garden off the gazebo deck.
