A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Today we walked along the old railroad tracks along the Atlantic coast. We met one person walking who let us know immediately that we didn’t need to put our dogs on a leash in account of her. We usually let our dogs off the leash when there’s nobody else around and put them on the leash when there is. We waked 4 kilometres

It’s so cold that the salt water ocean is freezing.IMG_7447.jpegIMG_7446.jpegThe AtV drivers are wanting to have the ability to use this path but the people that walk this path are trying to keep it as is. We hope it stays as it is; ATV free.

ATVs have there place but often they consider their place to be everywhere. A lot of damage!

The pathway I’m talking about goes along peoples property. It was a railroad track before it was a pedestrian walkway. At the moment it’s being looked after by the township. They mow it in the grass growing months and plough it in the snow ploughing months. The problem with ATV’s is that they create tire tracks that will get filled with water. The ATV tracks with ruin in for people wishing to walk on it. I hope it gets voted down. It’s a lovely walk as is.

I’m guessing this isn’t anywhere where you live. Since you didn’t see any snow.
Are you in a warmer part of Australia, generally speaking?
Yes you’re right @PeppermintPatty that’s in New South Wales .

SA is the driest state In Aust ,and is also one of hottest..due to SA having allot of desert areas between SA and western Australia.
We haven’t had more than a sprinkle of rain in the last 4 months

Ok I looked it up to see where you are talking about. I’m really not familiar with Australia.

What are dried peaches like? Are they like the ones you buy at the bulk stores?

We haven't dried any peaches this season as yet @PeppermintPatty but thinking about it , we canned 10 quart size jars (mainly Weck jars ) and 8 tiny just over a cup in size jars I will take a photo latter opened a tiny jar for btrakfast this morning to test the sweetness ….it’s good …I use about 1 cup of sugar to 6 cups of water for syrup

Do you ever make peach pies?
I wish we could grow peaches.
I ‘d love to make fresh peach pies.

Not really we are more fruit eaters ..rather than making pies ….i make a apricot or apple pie if we are having visitors for a meal but we generally eat low carb so tend to skip breads ( still eat bread but limit it )… items made with flour in general ….so we just eat the fruit fresh or preserved mine is usually with plain Greek yoghurt …DH has ice cream with fruit as a desert

Generally we try to eat low carb. It’s difficult when your husband likes freshly baked bread though and makes it himself. Most of the fruit we eat are from berries. We pick them in the summer and make jam out of them. We usually only have pie , Easter and Thanksgiving. I’ve never had peach pie before. I think warm peach pie with cold vanilla ice cream would be delicious though.

Looks like you’ve been having lotsa fun walking while I’ve beef stuck at home cooking fruit :ROFLMAO:

Some of the peaches I ( we ) canned yesterday DH always helps
These are the Weck jar brand Jars made in Germany @PeppermintPatty ..except for one quart size ball mason jars .

We try and walk everyday. The only days we don’t walk is when we are sick with a cold or when it’s freezing rain out. When it’s freezing rain out, it’s far too difficult to walk. When we have a cold, it’s also too difficult to walk. Plus I wonder about making the cold worse.

We haven’t canned anything in a few weeks.
We can our dogs food. The get either pork, beef or turkey. We mix it with their daily kibble and they love it. The dog food we were giving them makes their fur rusty brown . There’s dye in the food that leaks out of their skin . It’s really unattractive . Our silver dog especially has unsightly patches throughout her body.
Many small dogs get this discolouration from their eyes and mouth.

That’s a lot of canning Kadee.
Keep up the good work.

My husband says he can buy a whole case of canning jars ( mason) for $14

Today we went to the ATV trail for a walk.
Unfortunately the path wasn’t cleared and there was quite a bit of snow. Luckily a snowmobile had gone on the path but not followed the trail. After a while it just got too deep to keep walking.

We spotted some type of wildlife in the icy ocean and tried to zoom in to see what it was. At first we thought it was a seal or otter but then we both saw the shape of a beak so think it was some type of eagle. It definitely isn’t a bald eagle. It’s too big for a bald eagle and there’s no white head.
What do you think?

On the way back home we spotted 2 foxes.
One was on top of the frozen ocean. We figured it either spotted a mouse out there or a bird dropped something and it was checking it out. When we opened our window to get a shot, it crouched down .

Then got up

A little ways further up we saw this other fox not too far from the road. Nova Scotia has a lot of foxes and bald eagles. Here is the other one in the field by the road.

I thought some of you would have liked the fox pictures. Guess not.

Today we went to our regular trail walk. It was a much harder walk today due to recent snowfall. It’s about 3.2 kilometre walk.

I didn’t see any picture worthy animals to take a picture of. Just a couple of dogs with coats on. One dog had boots on as well. It looked very cute. IMG_7469.jpegIMG_7470.jpeg

Love the trail and fox pictures!!! It looks like a beautiful trail to walk and hike. Have you ever tried snow shoeing? That snow covered trail looks ideal for snow shoeing. I have always wanted to try but I heard it can be tough on the old knees, so I stick with walking and hiking well worn trails in the winter months.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that the township votes down the use of the trail by ATV riders. It is a beautiful trail and it should be left in tact for muscle power, NOT motor power!!!!

Thank you for commenting on the fox pictures. Each day I go out I try to find animals of interest to take photos of.

Yes I have tried snow shoeing. I’m not really a fan. I found it too hard to walk in them. It’s a good idea though. It’s hard on the knees and the butt. lol.

Luckily most of the trail was well worn down from other hikers, unlike the trail we walked on yesterday.

I agree with you that the unknown animal was probably some type of eagle.

I also hope and pray the township doesn’t allow the ATV’s access to these trails. There are plenty of ATV trails near the area that they could go on .

You live in a beautiful area! I appreciate the fact that you invite us to share the wonders of Canada through your adventures!
The foxes are gorgeous!
We used to see one regularly in the woods next to our house when we lived in NW Florida. He was very shy. He was not as big as yours.
Thank you Rossana. Somehow I missed your message. We do live in a beautiful area with lots of wildlife to notice. I do try my best to capture this wildlife and show it to you.
Most foxes are small. The pictures might make them look bigger but they ARE actually small.
